Match Thread – Will Spurs Free Themselves From The Toffee Or Will Everton Heighten Tensions Further

|

Following on from the shambles that was our second half capitulation against Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur have a slightly quicker turnaround in the fixture list as we now face Everton in the Friday evening television slot.

Travelling up to Goodison Park for the game, form slightly favours manager Jose Mourinho’s more pragmatic side, but Everton appear to be just as inconsistent as we are, looking very good one game and then very poor the next.

The guessing game for Spurs fans remains the same…which Tottenham turn up and do we even try ‘To Dare Is To Do?’

On an injury front, unless anyone has picked up an unannounced knock, it’s the same pack to choose from with only Ben Davies and Matt Doherty ruled out, but we knew that already.

So, onto the game and we’ll find out whether we will now end the season strongly and put an end to the circling Harry Kane rumours, or not, as the case may be.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

I’d be more than happy for Mr. Kane to go to Man City. if he leaves. (When he leaves?). He might then get to win the trophies that all his hard work deserves.

Harry is not a slave to THFC or to us Spurs supporters. He has the freedom and right to make his own choices going ahead. And for that he will have my blessings, wherever he goes. I’ll say thank you and all the best, Harry.

    He is not just a number (10), He’s a free man! ………………….

Now, because I don’t really have any idea about how any of our remaining matches will go this season. I certainly don’t have a clue about what may or may not happen v Everton tomorrow… (I thought we would be good enough to beat MU again. And yet I also think we are bad enough to get beaten by any other PL club, top to bottom)…

I am just gonna take time to say who I would love to see at Spurs, when Jose is sent packing…..

The man for me would be Bielsa. He may not be young. (In fact he is 5 or 6 years older than JM). But for me (aside from Pep), he is the most positive and progressive, attack-minded coach currently in the PL. And quite possibly the world…. From Beelzebub to Bielsa, in one fell swoop.! (But this ain’t gonna happen)… So, I’ll dream on………… Fantasist that I am.

But, if I wasn’t a through and through Spur or, without a club that I support. If I was a neutral. I’d be following Leeds United right now………

    Oh well…..

    Down with Jose!
    Up the Spurs!

From Beelzebub to Bielsa, in one fell swoop.!

this alone made it worthwhile to logon to VS today

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I agree Bielsa would be a good move from the style of play perspective but I would be concerned about communication with players due to his language skills, or lack of. I appreciate that (like Poch in his early days) he probably does speak some English behind the scenes, and most squads have a mix of nationalities, but most nowadays have a reasonable command of the common language even if it’s more in terms of listening rather than speaking like Aguero. Sarri’s name has been mentioned in the past couple of days also but I would have the same concerns with him in this respect.

    • Danny Winter says:

Bielsa’s apparently fluent…he just prefers the separation from the media. Poch only stopped using a translator because he was told to, from memory it wasn’t his choice.

  • Love totty says:

I think that I would be very upset if Levy sold Harry or any other key player under contract to a PL rival, especially City who I hate with a passion. I hope that those days of playing second fiddle to the sheiks and oligarchs have gone. I can never forgive those lost years of market distortion and corruption.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

LT….unfortunately it’s only clubs owned by sheiks and/or oligarchs who could afford to buy Kane other than Manu. I would be gutted if he went there or Chelsea. I don’t think either of the Spanish giants can afford him due to covid so that just leaves PSG or City realistically. My preference, if he were to leave, would be PSG and a reunion with Poch, if he wants to stay in the PL for family reasons then it is most likely he would be attracted to play for Pep regardless of the club ownership.

  • 123spurs says:

Kane contract runs untill 2024, no rush to sell. And if he was sold I wouldn’t to another prem team, unless its around 250 Mill.

  • Geofspurs says:

He could go to Millwall or Barnett. Or he could stay at Spurs. This speculation regarding Kane is even more depressing than recent games. Whatever happens, happens. I’ll wait until it does, or it doesn’t.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Everton have a number of significant absentees through injury, in particular Mina, Doucoure, and Calvert-Lewin, I would normally see this as giving us an edge but who knows the way we have been playing of late.

  • TK says:

Kane has a right to go where he wants, I suppose, but he needs to continue playing full our while he’s here. Unacceptable to me was Modric, who basically refused to play for us when he still was on our play role. I gave him the the Little Moder Focker at the time, as the film Meet the Fockers was No. 1 at the time. I still can’t forgive Modric for his basic refusal to play while he continued accepting his pay from us. Refusal to play should be accompanied by sending the paycheck back.

Having said that, I’m not sure I’d send my pay back if I started to fake my work and just showed up. but at least I’d show up.

to keep Kane let him help select the next manager and sit in on decisions about what players we should fight to get. put the ball in his lap, so to speak

  • 123spurs says:

Spurs have the right to sell who they want to, kane is just like any other player still under contract.

  • wentworth says:

Why was Moanino such a bad appointment?

    1) Poor man management.

    2) Poor at using substitutes.

    3) Failure to bring on young players for more than 90 seconds.

    4) Blames everyone else but himself.

    5) Defensive and boring style of play.

    6) Living on past glories.

    7) Failure to keep up with modern coaching.

    8) Unable to bring out the best with talented players such as Dele and Bale.

    9) Always ends up alienating fans and players.

    10) Has become a bore of the greatest magnitude and an embarrassment.

  • 123spurs says:

    11) levy had the balls to hire him, has he the balls to fire him.

  • TK says:

When leadership arrives with the self referential proclamation of being the Special One, and only I can save the nation, there should be no surprise when it all ends badly. Hanged by the ankles in a public square. Alone in an underground bunker. With marauding supporters storming the national capital. With all the foot soldiers scrambling to find somewhere else to play. With the people in the streets starving for something better.

History should have alerted us. It did warn uss

There’s still a final chapter to play out.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    123.
I’s not about whether Tottenham want to sell Kane or not. Levy will definitely want to keep him. Just like he wanted to keep Modric, Bale and Eriksen. It is whether or not Harry wants to go. And to where?

Like I said a few weeks ago though. . There will be a limited choice for him, if we are to get anywhere near his (pre- covid) value. So many clubs will not have the funds for him as a big-money buy. And this could well work in Spurs’ favour… We’ll see.

I still don’t think it’s that great a deal if he does go. He is not the great difference between Spurs winning stuff and Spurs not winning stuff… This is obvious.

In a way he could well be holding us back right now, with our over reliance on him and his goals. And, he ain’t getting any younger or stronger…

But I think with the right manager, this could all change for the better and pretty quickly… To me, it’s always about how the team and entire squad is managed, balanced and coached. And not just about 1 or 2 outstanding individuals… Otherwise, Spurs would be/should be riding high right now.

But, who that coach may be, is anyones guess. And when that new guy will be wanted/needed is also up in the air right now… We’ll see… ………………….

Back to tonight? I’m not confident. But maybe we’ll all be surprised. And we will see the good and more attractive version of Spurs. Not the bad, ugly one…

    EFC 2-5 THFC!

    Don’t laugh!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Lawro isn’t laughing at your predicted score HT, he is also optimistic and has us winning 2-1.

As if we weren’t already a laughing stock in some eyes….the back pages and other media are mercilessly mocking us over the Dulux sponsorship gaffes. 🙁

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Sorry HT but I did laugh when I saw your prediction – I assume you got it the wrong way round.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Everton have a number of important players missing through injury, most of their attacking moves involve James so we just need Hojbjerg to mark him out of the game and for Aurier to do the same with Richarlison……. oh… shite! :- (

  • PompeyYid says:

Will tonight’s game be a “whitewash” and gloss over the issue’s we are all concerned about? sorry, couldn’t resist, but I must admit I am getting “dog” tired of it all, so will put a lid on it

Will we, will we not win? that is the million dollar question, it looks like a loss is painted all over it, but as normal am going for a win! 1-3 Spurs, I would be veneery happy with that. COYS

  • Geofspurs says:

Come on, boys! Where’s the optimism? We’ve got a team full of internationals, the best stadium in the country, and the most special manager on the planet. Not to mention a tea lady that makes a mean cuppa! How can we not win? I predict 4-10 (it can happen).

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I’m actually feeling quite optimistic, I think this is the game where we are going to turn things around and go on a winning streak that will see us possibly finish in 5th. I’m going for a 1-3 scoreline.

All responses to: The Dulux centre for deluded decorators.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I’ve spent the past couple of weeks brightening up my garden furniture and some new fencing with a few water-based coats of quick drying pigments..

This, quite literally, has had me watching paint dry. And Homebase own brand ain’t up to the quality of Dulux. But it is much cheaper. And it’s looking good enough… I think.

I’m now trying to think of a witty connection from this, to the Spurs game tonight. But I can’t.

But if painting fencing and furniture proves to be more fun than watching Spurs tonight, I wouldn’t be at all surprised… And I find painting such a tedious bore!

    • PompeyYid says:

HT….with tonight’s game we could just “brush” it off, after such a “roller” coaster season, as you we all have to fence up to realities, sorry mate lol! COYS
