Match Thread – Will Spurs Fire Against Fulham Or Are We Set For More Disappointment

|

Following on from Tottenham Hotspur’s disappointing draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wednesday evening’s Premier League clash sees us welcome Fulham to White Hart Lane.

With manager Jose Mourinho directly blaming the squad for the lack of attacking prowess and insisting that defending the one goal lead for 89 minutes was not his instruction, the only inevitable outcome against Fulham is that we will see a very attacking starting line up, who will play on the front foot and in a more Spurs like way – as the players won’t ignore him for a second time…would they?

On an injury front, Giovani Lo Celso is yet to be given a return date following his injury, but whatever Gareth Bale felt in the Crystal Palace clash that led to his non-appearance after the half time break, it’s expected he’ll be fine for this one, so should return to the substitutes bench.

Update – Bale has been ruled out for the next few weeks with a calf strain, so probably four or so matches.

Let’s hope we get ourselves back on track in this one as whilst Fulham won’t be a walk in the park, there should be an expectation that this is one we comfortably win.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

HT having worked like you many Christmas days Boxing days and New years eves and days +gigging after. Much respect and a happy new year. I wish a happy new year to you all.
TQ a happy New Year to you and yours.
I again state that I know little about Tuchel as a manager.
But will say that success in the French league does not equate to success in the English premiership.
You cannot call the two leagues equal in any way.
If you were a football club owner and had Mourinhos and Tuchel CV’S in front of you, whom would you choose.
    It’s got to be Mourinho.
Perhaps just like Bale we haven’t got what we thought we’d bought.
As I said if Tuchel was so successful as you state, why was he sacked.

The game and tactics has changed so much, since jose was top of his game a long time ago. Adding that, he had all the cash he wanted, just like pep has.

    Why was tuchel sacked
How many times was jose sacked.
He’s living off his past tactics, which now have
been found out. Jose comes with a lot of unwanted baggage in a manager.

I’ll prefer Tuchel….Ive always liked the way his teams play and is a successful manager…..ill even prefer Graham Potter.

    Hi PY
    Happy New Year.
Yep m8, Same old Arse Different Pair of Underpants.
    Re Tuchel.
I’m not against him personally, don’t know enough about him really.
But my argument is why take the guy who was replaced by the guy we sacked.

Happy new year to all spurs fans and posters on VS.

We have seen a lengthy discussion on this thread, and IMO… we should go for a young modern coach who has experience of a competitive league, similar to PL, so, the Red Bull club Manager would be a good choice. Once jose leaves THFC.

  • block 108 spurs says:

Just to add… Once jose has won League cup / FA Cup silverware, and Europa League. So we will be in CL next year, regardless of this season top 4 place, and still have HK10 & Sonny at spurs. COYS

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I might just be fantasising here. But aren’t we playing Leeds tomorrow? Kick-off 12.30 am?

We’re at home and they were a Championship side just last season. So we should be able to compete fairly well with them, I think. Eh jod?

But because they are out and out attackers, always on the front foot, always positive. Then no doubt we will be sitting deep, parking the bus and hoping that we can pass the ball well enough from the edge of our own penalty area to hit them on the counter once in a while. Then we hope that our forwards are alive enough, alert enough, fit enough to punish them… I have my doubts.

I won’t predict a score because I haven’t got a clue and I’m not really optimistic….. Hopefully I will be proved to be wrong and we do well….

But anyhow, it might be nice to watch some exciting football for a change, even if it is from the opposition… 🙁

    Up the Spurs?

  • TK says:

Here’s a prediction, HT, based on recent form. 1 x 1, giving up a goal in the 83rd minute after having scored in the 7th minute. Hope the facts in the end prove me to be dead wrong and an idiot for thinking this way. But who can say that such a prediction is crazy? COYS. Prove me wrong. Please. I’ll happily admit I was wrong after we win 7 x 0 with Kane and Son hat tricking and and own goal to add the 7th goal. But that isn’t my prediction. That’s just my hope.

While I’m at it, why not predict a Lloris hat trick as Bale makes an unexpected start in goal so Lloris can start at the no. 10 position.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

That sounds like the prediction of a total knobhead. 😉

  • BelgianSpur says:

Just back to HT’s comment about Klopp never being sacked… While that is true, that’s mostly due to the fact that he holds a special place in Dortmund and the club have said that “Klopp would never be sacked”.

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jan/07/borussia-dortmund-never-sack-jurgen-klopp

However, towards the end of his time there, Dortmund had lost 10 of 17 and were in the bottom half.

Did Klopp resign to avoid putting Dortmund in a difficult spot? Were Dortmund overly sentimental? With those results, it seems he would have gotten the sack eventually – a similar situation to Ranieri at Leicester. He just chose to leave before it got to that stage.
