Match Thread – Will Spurs Be On Holiday In Morecambe

|

It’s a change of pace again this weekend for Tottenham Hotspur as we are back in Cup action – this time we welcome League One side Morecambe to White Hart Lane for the third round of the FA Cup.

After the shambles that was the EFL Cup first leg clash against Chelsea on Wednesday evening, lightning simply cannot strike twice here and put simply, failure to book our place in the fourth round of the competition should mean heads roll with the January transfer window open.

Ultimately, that’s for Daniel Levy to decide alongside manager Antonio Conte, for now, Conte simply has to focus on getting the team to show improvement again and restoring some confidence to the players as the Chelsea performance has to have knocked them.

As it stands, again we will only be missing three in the shape of Steven Bergwijn, Cristian Romero and Ryan Sessegnon, but whether the late round of Covid testing changes that remains to be seen.

Win, win, win.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

Just read through the Chelsea thread. Why was anyone so upset about losing when we all clearly know that Chelsea are a much better team than us at the moment. Usually the better team wins.

But if we lose this one we should all be VERY upset.

Hi Geof, a belated Happy New Year to you.

  • Geofspurs says:

Cheers TQ …. Same to you and yours. I was looking forward to the Chelsea/Spurs WSL game today but covid strikes again! Fortunately there is a lot of tennis on and I’ll watch all of Osaka and Barty’s games plus a lot of others, not to mention the Ashes …. so much to do and so little time! lol

Sorry …. I shouldn’t have mentioned the Ashes!

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Thanks and yes I was looking forward to the game too, I even cancelled my weekly visit to my daughters in order to watch it.

No worries over the cricket, I’ve come to expect ‘Spursy’ performances from England when playing the Aussies! 🙂

Thge fuss over Djokovic is big news here, not sure why, if he doesn’t meet the rules to enter Aus he should quite rightly be sent packing like everyone else. Simples!

  • Geofspurs says:

My prediction for this one 75 – 0 (for good reason)

  • wentworth says:

    Transfers have started elsewhere.
Deafening silence from Spurs. Will we be the last ones at the party as usual? Just bargain basements left.
Conte has stated that we are nowhere near good enough that means offloading the failures and signing some fresh faces. I trust him but not the miserly Levy.

  • PompeyYid says:

    5-0 tomorrow COYS

  • Niall D says:

    Hi folks
PY trust all is OK with you and yours, just saw, your last post on the previous thread.
My concept of taking someone to church, is to “destroy them”, for me that’s the modern literal meaning of that saying, virtually showing someone for all their weakness, perhaps at the Stadium we can do that. Probably over playing my hand m8. I just don’t think Chelsea were all that the other nite, letting my emotions get the better of me. 😉
Re the Morecombe game, a few squad players should do the trick, but we are Spurs and will make, a pigs, ear out of a silk purse, 😉.
    Still 3-0 Spurs.

    • PompeyYid says:

Hey Nial, I was trying sarcastic humour, failing miserably, I had guessed you meant “to destroy them” lol!

Me and mine are doing ok, thankyou, yours the same hopefully!

Mind Mrs PY has had her bad cataracts removed, new lens fitted to both eye’s, in the past 4 months, her consultant is as chuffed with the results as she is.

But now another problem has arisen “Asian Veins”, meaning very thin, in her legs, so now waiting for the tests to be carried out, got appointment in 9 days time.

Now tomorrow how about go strong, bang in some goals in the 1st half, rest em for the 2nd, guarantee the next round.

Say bollocks to the 2nd leg v the Chavs, we are probably out anyway, give some of the others a chance/playing time, then we can concentrate on the NLD and The Foxes away, because for me 4th in the Prem is more important than the Lge Cup or whatever it is known as now.

Son won’t be in any of these games, out for a month minimum!

      Just some thought. COYS

  • TK says:

Singaporean Forrest Li the next big THFC signing? Could DL and Uncle Joe Bahamas be bringing in financial cavalry to wear Spurs? Finding the cash to up the pay of the tea lady for some January additions?

Singaporean beer tends to be on the lite side. How much of it could we sell at the club on match days?

Maybe this story will just turn out to be about selling naming rights.

  • Niall D says:

    Hi PY
Thought that, but wasn’t sure chum 😉, funnily enough just back from a 40 mile round trek to the eye clinic (Bfast) wife’s eye test to do with diabetes, but she’s sort of normal as she has it under diet control, we’re just Gettin the all old age stuff now PY.
    Trust your Mrs stays OK.
Re “amarra” and Morecombe, get LoCeslo off HIS ar$e with N’Dombers, Rodon, Tananga, Gill, Dele, Wlnks, Bergs, even Clarke, there should be enough there to beat Morecombe.
I would still like a result against Chelsea, though at 2-0 up they maybe home and dry and we will probably have half an eye on our next game against Arse. 🙄

  • TK says:

Niall, I’d play your list for the match vs. Morecombe in the match vs. Chelscum. Unless, or course, Conte wants other to get practice and evaluation for other players.

but I’d concentrate on PL matches for the rest of the season.

that and squeezing some money out of Singaporeans and naming rights to build the squad. Conte is on a short term contract that runs only through the next season. I suppose that is because DL doesn’t want to keep paying sacked managers, but it also shows that Conte will walk quickly if DL and Uncle Joe don’t open the purse strings now.

Only the gods can see beyond that. But we are close to now or never in terms of the future. Can you imagine a world class NFL stadium that plays only NFL style football and in the first division? Build now or live in ignominy for ever.

The best and the blessed to the missus. diabetes and the eyes require serious attention. I had a grandmother and both parents with the same problem set, and one of them went blind. She didn’t pay sufficient attention.

  • allan says:

If Conte plays a similar team to that which played Mura then heaven help us . Weren’t they the lowest ranked team in the tounament ?
These lower league teams are not mugs and Morecombe will be there not to make up the numbers .
However I expect us to win well but we will have to play well as a team which means that if Ndembele plays he had better do some work .
    Here’s to the 4th round !

  • Niall D says:

    Cheers for the comments TK.
Re the game I don’t know, what the best option is team wise, just trying to suggest a few players who should be getting game time, earning their wages, or at least putting themselves in the shop window, still whatever team we put out we should still beat our opponents.
    😉

  • block 108 spurs says:

As I have regular (one a yr) diabetic eye tests it very important for anyone with type 2 or 1 don’t ignore it please.

I agree with posters on here 🙂 conte has to be backed by levy / joe /thfc board in transfers out and in. We lacked the quality of effort and players in chelsea game this week, and a repeat against lower league opposition is not acceptable. I thought spurs players had more fortitude than collapsing again eg..(CL v pool) after an early goal so a kick up their backsides from conte is well deserved.

(Did anyone else think conte should have played Japhet lb, and rodon in back line ?)

Today.. spurs 3-0 and in much better style COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

Block n Niall, great advice regards Diabetes, one of my oppo’s had his yearly “Eye test” yesterday, all tikedy boo, fortunately, also agree it is predominately an age thing.

Block you ask! I would have played the back 3 like this….
    Sanchez – Tanganga – Rodon.

Today…1st half hit em hard, score a shed load of goals, make sure of next round, bring on others for the 2nd half.

As we, I think! are out of the Cup v Chavs, play a decent team/side but concentrate on the following lge games, way more iimportant!

  • Niall D says:

I note that we lost out on Coutinio to Villa.
It poses the question, did we really want him and if we did then why did he go to villa?
For villa he could be the replacement for Grealish.
Had he come to us he may have been that missing link in mid field, creative attacking midfielder who can hit a decent free kick.
Who knows why we dipped out, perhaps we weren’t interested in him at all as he hasn’t been fantastic for Barca, but he does have a good prem pedigree.
He may not have been quite what we were looking for, I just think he was worth the risk, even for a loan spell.

    • PompeyYid says:

Niall, regards Coutinho, apparently we were never in for him, got offered by his agent, big fat no from us, he wanted £180k + bonus’s a week.

For me its a Phew! glad that happened, to many injuries, not the player he was!

So its for now this moment COYS.

  • wentworth says:

Hmmm. Rather a grim lineup. Is it shop window time for the lazy stroller, one legged shuffler, clueless full back?
    Deathly silence on transfer front.

  • 123spurs says:

And look who we have up front, the guy who doesn’t care, the 10 outfield players should all be available for tranfer.

  • 123spurs says:

So sad to see no youngsters on the pitch or on the subs bench, only the rejects on the pitch

  • Stewart Mason says:

    ####RUBBISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wentworth says:

Well, well, well. I said it was a grim lineup and so it proved. We have an awful second string of no hopers. Who is going to buy any of these. N’Dombele ..not interested. Lo Celso spends all the time on the floor even when he takes useless free kicks. Dele is a man lost. Doherty not a clue. Gil frustrated and is a waste of space.
I could go on but we are so so poor its unbelievable. Absolutely shocking until the big guns rescued us.
