Match Thread – Will Spurs Be Ole-ing After Difficult United Clash

|

With small and subtle improvements in Tottenham Hotspur’s performance against dogged and resilient Burnley in our midweek EFL Cup victory, simply put, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will have to be a hell of a lot better as we go up against Manchester United on Saturday.

Welcoming under fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to White Hart Lane is going to be no easy task at all given the form we are in and unfortunately for us, the fact they are on a run of four without a win means we can expect some kind of reaction from them. If we click again like we did at the very beginning of the campaign, defend well and be clinical (albeit not quite flowing) in attack, we can get back to winning ways here, but that’s easier said than done.

Perform as we have done in some matches this year, and if they give Ole a response, this one could be quite painful.

To be fair he can’t win WW, if he had sold Kane many would have lambasted him for lacking ambition by selling our best players.

  • TK says:

The problem, TQ, is not that DL cannot win but that THFC cannot win in its current shape, and that’s a shape that was shaped by DL.

Love him or hate him–and I know of no one who loves him–DL takes the blame for today’s shape.

Daniel Levy, a man who has shaped his own history and now lives in infamy within its borders A man who shaped a most lovely stadium with a pathetic mess of a team within.

    What is sowed is reaped.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Hopefully Kane will be gone as well, come January.

Or at least dropped by whoever is next in charge. Until Harry can show that he actually cares about Spurs and not just for himself.

Sadly, I am now fully convinced that Kane just don’t give a damn for Spurs. If indeed he ever did.

I didn’t want Conte. I’m not convinced about his footballing philosophy, one bit. But at least he has the balls to make tough choices and has some gravitas and respect within the game. I’m certain that he would drop Kane if he felt he had to, just as easily as Jose and Nuno have dropped Dele.

  • TK says:

Who is greeting the players when they show up for practice now? Only the tea-lady? Jesus, Joseph, and Mary, I hope it isn’t DL. That could only further depress the players. The National Health Services is stripped on mental-health services. To whom do players and supporters go now for much needed help?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

TK….of course DL shaped the club and where it is…..he is the boss and ultimately the buck stops with him. If Paratici fails as director of footballing operations it will be Levy’s fault for appointing him, that’s just something that comes with the territory of being the boss, you make what you think is a good decision but not every one of them works out.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

In other words, if it is to be Conte, then I have changed my mind on him.

He will not take any prisoners and will no doubt stamp his authority on the squad, without a second thought. Whether that is with Harry K or any other player that doesn’t give his all, and/or follow his instructions.

Right now the club needs shaking up and the players need waking up. And, maybe Conte will be the right man for this after all. They need a good kick up the rear. All of them!

But I’m buggered if I know what’s best! Not until we see it… And see it soon.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

My thoughts too HT, we need a manager with some dangly bits to sort out this squad.

  • Pauric says:

HT, I think our problems started long before our new football director took over the poisoned chalice. Common denominator Daniel Levy. To be honest with you I don’t blame poor nuno the 10th or 20th choice manager, the players had no respect for him. If you remember as young fella playing with your mates in the park, you would start picking teams and off course the last one or two lads left to pick where hopeless let’s call it as it is,they would not get a touch off the ball, basically getting in the way. That’s how Nuno was looked at by the players because of shambolic search for a manager. If Conte became manager you would see a massive change in the players he wouldn’t take this bullshit. If it’s Conte he has to do it his way otherwise he won’t last 6 months. So basically Daniel he signs the players he wants and gets rid of the rotten apples in changing room (starting with Delli Alli) if not don’t even bother picking up the phone.

  • wentworth says:

I feel sorry for Nuno. No doubt an honourable and private man. However, he took over the sinking ship thinking he could plug the gaping holes. His career has been temporarily ruined unless Norwich in desperation come calling.
The great challenge now is who has the balls and stature to stand up to Levy and Kane. Levy needs to be given an ultimatum over transfers…release the money and stop interfering. Kane needs to be dropped. ( Would Ryan Mason have the guts to do it? Nope.)Can’t see Kane going in Jan so we are stuck with him until next Summer.
Can’t see us making any decent transfers either in Jan. Time is tight and we could be dropping down the table.
Is Conte the man to take ship into harbour and provide some temporary repairs? It will be extremely difficult to get the present crew playing attractive, attacking football. We are severely lacking in several departments and have no bright sparks coming through to lighten the gloom.

  • jod says:

If we are bringing in Conte then we should probably discuss who we replace him with at the end of next season now.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

We have a squad that is easily good enough for a top 6 place and should push for top 4, there are just too many who aren’t performing which hopefully Conte can change, if not then we replace them in the next couple of windows.

  • wentworth says:

TQ not so sure about our squad. We can put out a reasonable first team when they all play but we are sadly lacking in midfield. Also we have a poor group of subs. Our bench looks totally uninspiring at times in comparison with the top teams. Also, I keep banging on about our non existent young academy stars.
We are a mid table club at best. We need new, exciting players not cheapies.

  • Niall D says:

HT couple of good posts there, I do think the players need a good kick up the arse (Ted).
For me Kane should’ve left in July but we are where we are.
There are a lot of posturing players, around our club doing not much for too much money.
Conte would be the man to whip the team into shape, but he needs to be able to dictate who’s in who’s out.
But we do need to accept that he is a bit like JM in his tactics, he is a defence minded coach.
His success rate however is only second to Pep, so he must be doing something right.
Let’s hope Levy stops meddling in the player business.

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

The one point missing from all this we didn’t have the resources to build a stadium to bring in the income for a top Premier league team and pay for top quality players at the same time. That meant that we could only afford lesser players who had the potential to reach much higher standards. That situation required managers with the right game plan for the players we had and the right man-management skills to bring out the best in them. Neither Poch, Mourinho or Nuno met both these two requirements. Let’s hope Conte can, at least up to the transfer window when we might have some chance of bringing in one or two players to strengthen the squad ( mainly from the proceeds of selling some of the duds, that might include Kane)

  • Allan says:

From the ridiculous to the ????????
I simply cannot see how anyone can support Levy and his handling of the footballing side of the club .
We have won a 3rd rate cup and how many managers have we had in 20 years of ENIC ” success ” ?
If Conte is appointed then at least Levy for once may have made a good appointment . However if he fails to provide Conte with funds will Conte
be able to get the best out of the team ?
There is a well written article on the BBC page outlining the problems we have as a club and Levy does not come out of it well .
We are stuck with Levy and he appears to be impervious to the criticism coming his way . I don’t care even if levy has for once made a good managerial appointment and we win something the wasted footballing years, I have spent supporting my team, have been created by this board with Levy at the head of it .
