Match Thread – Will Spurs Again Be The Villans On Sunday Or Will We See A Reaction

|

What had started out as quite a promising campaign has definitely turned into a topsy turvy year for Tottenham Hotspur, and this week has been no different as we backed up a poor performance against Arsenal in the North London Derby defeat with a quite incredible performance that saw Dinamo Zagreb fight back from a two goal deficit to unceremoniously dump us out of this season’s Europa League competition.

Opinions amongst Spurs fans have always been torn when it comes to manager Jose Mourinho and this last week has done nothing to temper those thoughts, and it probably feels even more frustrating as ahead of Arsenal it looked like we were again playing ourselves into some good, attacking form and leaving the more defensive and pragmatic approach behind us.

We will be missing Erik Lamela after his sending off, and Son Heung-Min continues to be out. In other potentially good news, there’s mixed talk about Jack Grealish returning so he might miss out for them, but in any event, we know we have the firepower to take all three points, it just again comes down to how we play and, well, how we play.

The question that no one can bet on ahead of a match this season.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

I can tolerate Mourinho until May 24th. After that there can be no excuse not to put him in a sack and send him packing. Sacking and packing on May 24th. Not a day later.

Even if we win a third rank cup named for a Thai sugar pop with or without fizz, sacking and send packing by May 24th.

  • TK says:

wentworth, a massive cuddle is so 2019, pre-pandemic.

sacking and send packing on May 24th.

Guys like it or lump it, (BTW I don’t like the guy), Terry gave his all for both club and Country, he often put his balls on the line to stop a goal going in and ran through brick walls to win games, if only we had a CDM with that spirit. As a person don’t like him, as a footballer I have to admire his achievements and he does respect Mourinho, I can understand that.

TK – get off the fence will you and tell us once and for all – do you want Jose to stay or not!!!

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

PompeyYid – I am feeling great thank you. I hope you and your wife are well. My wife and I had our first COVID jabs yesterday. It was a great experience, superbly organised and the staff were wonderful. We are not feeling great at the moment but not as bad as some. Bad enough though to stop work for the day and go to bed and get some rest – every cloud eh.
Just listening to an album by Keb Mo and Taj Mahal. Some real classy laid back blues. Have you heard them. Certainly a lot less painful than watching Spurs at the moment COYS.

    • PompeyYid says:

Donny, it great that you are feeling well, and that you and her indoors finally had the Jab yesterday, thumbs up all round there.
The missus and myself are also well, we had our Jabs (Oxford) about 5 weeks ago, done at home, missus being housebound, the Doc was very Professional, the missus had a poorly feeling for about 2 or 3 days, but that’s understandable with the ailment RSD/CRPS that she suffers with, me I had Zilch, Nadda, Nout, Nothing get my drift, lol!

You say you had a great experience and that it was superbly organised, I am getting the same feed back from our local centres, so it seems very well done all round.

As a blues fan, will look up that album by Keb Mo and Taj Mahal, Niall rates him/them also, so two of you, good enough for me.

    • TK says:

Taj Mahal was my neighbor in Cambridge Massachusetts some 50 years ago at the height of the old Cambridge folk revival. Good neighbor. Good music.

  • Niall D says:

Ahhhh DH Keb Mo, excellent, we used to gigg “Am I Wrong”. But great artiste. Hope you pick up soon m8. Just knocks you off for a day or so.

  • PompeyYid says:

Just read that Frank Worthington has passed today, RIP FRANK.

  • Niall D says:

Indeed PY rip Frank, one of the characters of football.
Just read comments from Gareth Bale.
Not great really, stated that it was good to get away from the club (to international duty) when things aren’t going well, also stated that he would be returning to RM next season, it wasn’t a wait and see brief, nope, he’s going, funny old set of comments (not funny ha ha)

  • TK says:

re: Gareth Bale’s comments about bailing on us: no surprise. He’s played much of the time here as though he wasn’t here. Not good for the soul to make that much money. Does things to a lad. He can go yesterday.

  • TK says:

My apology that I’ve been so ambivalent in my posts about José Mourinho. I’ll try to be more clear in future posts.

It is not true that I want him to drown in the bathtub. He can slip out of town quietly and without fan fare. So long as we see only his backside from now through eternity.

  • Geofspurs says:

TK …. Reading between the lines, I can tell that you are a great admirer of our special manager. It’s a gift! Mind you, the lines do seem to suggest otherwise. : – )

  • TK says:

geof, your sense of the absurd matches my own. You’re right. My admiration of our special manager causes me to want him to replace DL at the higher helm. He then could stop THFC from spending money on football players because he’d divert the funds into the manager’s salary, and he, of course, will hire himself as manager for life–a title he’ll inherit from Kim Jong Un–which I believe is Korean for the Special One. His man management style will be: win for me or I’ll poison you at the training pitch. Borat will direct the next Amazon special in the dressing room.

    • Geofspurs says:

TK …. Yep. Good call. That’s how I see it. But I do believe that, when Levy has been outed, JM will employ the ex-president of the Un-united States as our public relations spoke-person. I mean, you simply can’t have enough special people, can you.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

TK – wow. Taj Mahal was your neighbour, that must have been interesting. A great musician.
Thank you for clarifying your position re Jose, I now know where you stand. Poch was fired in the second week of an international break so there is still time. Unfortunately the three points won against Villa has probably put off the inevitable for a while. I guess we will have to wait until after the humiliating bus parking defeat against Man U in a few weeks before he will receive his marching orders. COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

You beat me to it DH, I was going to ask ‘has he gone yet?’ as the international break is often used as an opportunity to remove managers from their position.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

With the utmost respect to everyone on here., it’s getting very boring now, all of this anti-Jose stuff.

I’d like to read some thoughts from any posters that may still want to give him more time. And is there anyone that feels that Jose’s time will still be justified if we go on to finish in the top 4 and/or win the Carabao cup? Because, this is still of course, quite possible.

Or, is there anyone that does now see why so many were and are against him being at Spurs, that maybe didn’t before? Is there anyone that has now changed their mind on him? But not necessarily because of his personality traits or media profile, etc. Or man-management style, and any treatment of any of our players. But simply from the football that we see from week to week.

Does anyone see any improvements from when Pochettino was fired? Does anyone still think that winning a cup is the be all and end all? Or, the gateway to better things to come? Does anyone genuinely feel that if there is one man that can turn this club around and start building some on-field success and be part of the great re-build that many want to now see., that that man has still got to be Mourinho?

    Who is pro-Jose, and why?

  • Geofspurs says:

HT …. So many questions! I started thinking about them, felt a headache coming on, took a tablet, made a coffee, read a book called ‘The Double And Before’ by D Blanchflower and then forgot what the questions were. I’m okay now. : – )

  • PompeyYid says:

    HT, good questioning post there.

Is there any improvements since Poch was fired, NO! of course there was the new manager bounce, we believe etc, but now it is, we do not believe, respect or want your old tired ways, he has either lost the dressing room 100% or at the minimum split it.

Moaninasaurus is most definately not the coach/manager to take us forward, his out dated, has-been attitude may have worked 20 years ago, but am afraid not to day, examples Chavs n MU, who both sacked him.

When Levy signed him on as our new manager, I did think NO! how low have we got? though I do not know the man personnally, but I cannot stand him, the big I am twat, however as he was our New man I did decide to “sit on the fence” give him a chance, but unfortunately all us who did that, have had it thrown back in our boatraces big time.

If we went on to win the Tin Pot Cup and finish in the top 4, for me it will still not justify us signing him as coach and allowing his poison to drip feed into our club, I do believe a more with it fresh idea’rd coach would have got us there anyway.

So for me now, I gave him a chance, MOANINASAURUS OUT! COYS always.

  • Geofspurs says:

Do we want to win a trophy that means zilch to anyone outside of the THFC family …. or do we want to play a style of football that will earn THFC the respect of the football world?

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

HT – great post. I will give a more considered response tomorrow when I have recovered from the effects of my cCOVID jab. In the meantime, all I have is Jose out. Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

  • 123spurs says:

Had a feeling it would turn out like this,
Players can’t defend like jose wants.
Jose not attacking to the players strengths.
I’d take the cup win over top4.
