Match Thread – WHL Comforts For Spurs As We Look To Lay Down A Marker & Cut Through The Toffees

|

Well, it’s been a strange old summer for supporters of all clubs, let alone Tottenham Hotspur fans but it’s finally time for the first match thread of 2020/21.

I trust this finds the good citizens of Vital Spurs and their wider bubbles, in good health and spirits, as this coming season is bound to be a rollercoaster, both on and off the pitch!

2019/20 was interesting, to say the least, with our problems and the changes we saw (nobody mention poor performances), so this year after a semi-busy transfer window of captures, we also have Europa League qualification to look forward to – which simply only complicates things further given the additional games we face for barely a Plovdiv of financial benefit compared to the Champions League itself.

But it’s Everton up first as we go into a new strange season where fans still won’t be in attendance and nobody knows if we’ll actually perform like the Spurs we expect either, but the likelihood is more of the same pragmatic type of football Jose Mourinho is famed for – we just have to hope the results follow.

Everton...

Win

Draw

Lose

It’s a busy start to the season with five games to pack in ahead of us slipping into October, so can we lay down a marker against the Toffees and show that we’ve learnt from last season’s mishaps?

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

    2-0!

Lowering your expectations then Geof? 🙂

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Only three days until we are bored stupid by Jose’s boring, antiquated, mind numbing boring football – defend deep, long balls to Kane and feeding off the scraps, hopefully if Son and Moura have any energy left from their defensive duties they may produce a decent counter attack. Not a hint of creativity on the pitch – creative players cannot be trusted under Jose, they don’t track back enough.
Only three days until Jose starts moaning about the fixture schedule, the referee, the lack of squad depth and the absence of a back up striker. And so begins the inevitable downward spiral under Jose before the relief of his dismissal sometime around Christmas.
I wanted to right a positive article but I’m afraid this is the best I could come up with!!! COYS

Morning HT, thanks for the reply, I know exactly what you are thinking, so no probs hahaha!, thought I would put that in, anyway my drivel post wasn’t aimed at you, I was trying to be generic, note trying, by the way we have similar humour thus sarcasm.

Now then Geof not so optimistic this season then! maybe the confidence will be back soon esp after we beat the Toffees on Sunday, 3-0 for me, got to keep you going.

Now then chaps n chapesses I think we will see what our great leader has been coaching/drumming into the lads on Sunday, all for the good, I am my optimistic self lol! COYS

Morning ND, just read your last post, I hope that was dry humour and not real, as in your leaving, please do not go, love reading your posts whether I agree or not, but more importantly who am I going to chat to regards great music esp “the Blues” lol! COYS

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ …. Yes, a bit more conservative at this stage. Hopefully I’ll be predicting 6-0 after a few weeks!

    DH …. I can tell you’re up for the season. : – )

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ … On reflection, I’d still be going with 3-0 if MP was in charge. Under JM I’m a bit worried that I’ll have to drop to 1-0! Time will tell.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I would like to feel positive about the new season but think the covid situation coming when it did so soon after the stadium build is likely to set us back considerably.

The gooners have improved greatly since Arteta’s arrival, Everton have invested well and now have a very strong squad (especially in midfield) to go with their top manager, even Newcastle are showing some ambition in their terms. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Chelsea challenging for the title with Liverpool and City, Manu won’t be too far behind thanks to Fernandes and the addition of Van de Beek and there is still the possibilty they will get Sancho as well.

As I say, I’m trying to be positive, but with the positivity I can muster I only see us finishing 7th at best.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Tq2spurs, I think seventh or eighth is where we will finish. I think it will be evident very early in the season that we are no where near good enough to qualify for the Champions League and Jose will focus on trying to win the Europa League as our only potential route into the Champions League next season. I think Arsenal and wolves have better balance squads than us (and better more progressive managers) and there is no way we will catch any of the teams that finished above us last season.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Niall, I was the one asking EJ to get back on track to this thread and he agreed but still carried on with his own agenda anyway….. ??? But does it really matter that much? It’s all nonsense!

The only thing that ever really counts is what the team do when they actually get to play a game of football. We just like to chat some shit about it… It’s all (we’re all) quite pompous and arrogant in that respect. Us telling each other who can and cannot play and speculating like fools on players that will never even play for us whilst slagging off the one’s that do… Taking it all so seriously as some do though, is much more pompous than me having a bit of a laugh about it all mate…..

Don’t stop posting. I will stay away, as it seems like I annoy too many people….. Always have done, I think… People that are way too over sensitive but if that ‘s to be the way, then I feel I should be the one to go away…..

TBH, I’m pretty bored senseless reading some peoples posts on here. And some posters only seem okay with another poster, if they always agree with them and massage their frail ego’s……. Or else they cry like a baby!

    Spurs 3-0 Toffees!

    Stay safe all and…..

    Up the Spurs!

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

HT – Jose is more likely to leave Spurs than you are to leave Vital Spurs. Don’t go HT, don’t go.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Come on guys, we’ve had some great debating on here since they sorted the delayed posting issue, how about we all show a bit of tolerance, we can all be irritating dicks occasionally but at the end of the day we are all here because of our united love for our club. If you’ve been on here as long as I have you will know that transfer windows can get a bit heated on here, I think mainly due to the frustration our club tends to pile on us with our largely unique tactics in the transfer market!

I know there generally isn’t a lot of positivity about our prospects right now but at least we will have a diversion away from the transfer issues in a few days time with the likelyhood of some interesting views one way or the other depending on the outcome of our first game of the new season.

In other words……..put your handbags away and get yer rattles out! 🙂

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Hi, DH… I wasn’t looking for back-up… Or else I’d be the one crying like a baby if that was the point…

I didn’t mean that I’m not ever going to post again… Sorry! But for now I feel I should let others express themselves rather than keep jumping on them and their posts…… I only do that because what they write is what gets me writing in response, in the first place. Otherwise I’d have nothing to say…

    I wasn’t even arguing with anyone… I was just having a conversion, I thought ……

ND carry on… I will not interrupt you or anyone else with my silliness anymore…..

I’ll come back when the football kicks off…..

Take care all…. And I’m not really that bored with any of your posts……… Just bored with myself and my own need to talk shit!

I need to take time out and do what I need to do away from the bloody screen!

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Jumping on other’s people’s posts is what this site is all about HT. I’m more than happy for none to jump on my negative (realistic) posts. Still waiting for Jod to let me know how little I know about absolutely everything. COYS

  • 123spurs says:

how has arteta improved arsenals defense, yet jose couldn’t improve spurs.

  • 123spurs says:

as I said before if we have likes of dier, winks, lamela, lucas, dele, we will not improve it will be the same ol shit, they need to up their game big time, constantly week in week out, even our subs that come on dobt make a difference, as kane is run done to the ground yet again

  • PompeyYid says:

HT, you and ND have unique styles, each to their own, great posts, bullshit lah! lah! thats what everyones opinion is all about, have a laff, get moody its all in the game.

DH, does you and realism go together haha! must admit I do love your intense optimism, not! there I tried to lighten the times, but probably failed miserably, so its off to do my English lessons again, how I got O Level Lit I will never know lol!

Hope your keeping well and still listening to great sounds.

123spurs, hey mate, I think I will wait until I say “here we go same ole shit!” cos we maybe pleasantly surprised, thats optimism from myself.

Get ready lads n lassies for a win on Sunday, can’t wait, bring it on. COYS

    • Hot Tottingham says:

PY. you communicate what you have to say, very well and In your own personal fashion. Its you as a person and personality that counts and nothing to do with anything learned at school…

I’m innumerate and I have not one educational qualification to my name. I never went to school for more than a few days at a time before I bunked off for the rest of my time… and I have never had any further education… And maybe I try too hard with words, as some kind of way to hide this fact… I did what Niall does. I played music…. When I should have been at school I was either walking the streets of London and meeting all kinds of people, learning the many lessons of life from them. Or playing and learning music (or football) when I should’ve been doing my sums and history lessons…

Maybe because I can’t count, I read too many books and spent too much time trying to educate myself, that I come across the way I do…

I like the way different posters express their different opinions and in their own individual way… I don’t want them to not do that, in the way they choose and in in the way they like…….

I’m passionate about Spurs and I can’t help my verbal diarrhea when on here, sometimes…. So I need to shut up for a while and let others do the talking…..

      Up the Spurs!

      And 1+1+1 = Spurs 3-0 Everton!

  • 123spurs says:

hope so PY, I really hope jose can put a Ruthless winning mentality into these players and believe

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

PompeyYid- all good here thank you. I hope you and your wife are well. Still listening to the blues. Sorry I can’t be optimistic but I just can’t see Spurs going anywhere under Jose especially with our lack of squad depth. 123 Spurs is right – we have too many average players to mount any serious challenge. Much as we try to pretend otherwise, the likes of Winks, Sissoko, Dele, Moura, Lamela, Davies and Dier are simply not at the level we need if we want to get back into the top four.

  • Niall D says:

    Hi Guys
    Re earlier.
My apologies. BTW not a snow flake. HT just don’t get your humour but pls don’t stop posting.

Not going back to that conversation.
