Match Thread – VAR Needs To Be Pensioned Off & Spurs Will Be Hoping To Do Just That To Chelsea

|

I’m pretty sure what can be said about the Video Assistant Referee (lack of) technology from a Tottenham Hotspur point of view will have been aired on Sunday evening and throughout Monday, but it’s time for us to quickly move on to Chelsea on Tuesday evening in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

Having received a bye against Leyton Orient, that little break clearly helped us against Shkendija and Newcastle when it came to the more ‘Spurs like’ attacking performances we saw, but as we all know, we did not get our just deserts against Steve Bruce’s side.

We cannot make that mistake again against Chelsea as they more than have the quality to punish us, so whilst we can be optimistic we will create chances – they have to be taken and Newcastle is the lesson.

Our chances aren’t improved by an injured Son Heung-Min but we have to hope that is the last blow to come from the weekend’s action – Tuesday night, fresh game, fresh opportunity and let’s all hope it’s a fresh win to put Sunday’s nightmare well and truly behind us.

Chelsea...

Win

Draw

Lose

    Come on Spurs!

    Hugo, be a star!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    OH YES!!!!!

  • Niall D says:

We’ve only gone and bloody done it.
We’ll done lads COYS 4 ever.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I think Jose must have set the alarm clock for half time…………

    Come On You Spurs!

  • 123spurs says:

surprise surprise, a peno shoot out, we win.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Well well, I take my hat off to them! We have definitely played some better football in the last two games.

  • Danny Winter says:

Not exactly comfortable but I’ll take that!

  • jod says:

Hot Tottingham – I’m not sure exactly what an “old school centre forward” is but Liverpool won the title with Firminho (and Origi when he wasn’t available). So I’m guessing Klopp for one has no plans to play without a centre forward and it seems to work for him.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Hi jod…. You are the one that keeps making the distinction between strikers and CF’s…..

Put it this way… Old school for me, means a straight up target man who plays mostly up top and central… But essentially a goalscorer. Harry can do this all day long. But he also does so much more.

Martin Chivers was old school. Harry and most other strikers in the modern game are not like Martin and others of his era….. They are much more varied in their play… I’m saying what you have just said with Klopp (?)

Anyway…. Who wants to talk old school anything, when Spurs have just knocked out Chelsea in a penalty shoot-out…..

Have a drink or two and celebrate…… 🙂

  • Hot Tottingham says:

… Or was you being sarcastic about Klopp?

That is an add on to a post I just wrote in reply to you jod….. But it hasn’t yet arrived…..

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    It has now……

By the way lads and lassies…. The Milky Bars are on me!

    Cheers!

  • El Jefe says:

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I’m always miffed as to why this site goes so very quiet when we win. But, very noisy when we lose……..

So many non regular posters after the Toffees loss. Who then have pretty much disappeared since we haven’t lost again….

Just a few more after the Magpies draw but then tonight, after a win? No sign.

Now I’m thinking… If I mention Galway Gooner again, will he suddenly appear again, like last time?

Anyway a win is a win as they say…… And after a really poor 1st half, I absolutely loved the 2nd half and the penalty shoot-out……. Old school cup game! Triffic!

    • Danny Winter says:

Nature of the beast HT – win, especially in a manner like that, and people are relieved, ecstatic etc and log off happy to toast it. Lose, especially in that manner and the blood pressure is up, the alcohol and insults are flying and people want to vent.

      • Hot Tottingham says:

        Hi Danny, I know…

It’s good that people vent… I vented at half time. But it’s been like it for years on here… There were posters after the Everton match that have barely posted on here in a long, long while…… Why bother?

Why feel the need to just vent, but never celebrate or simply just chat…… I don’t get it.

Even after my half time vent, I could still see us in with a chance of winning…….. I still managed to be positive…..

God knows, it’s the real world that makes me real miserable. Why would I want to exasperate that with what is just a bunch of geezers running around kicking a ball about….. 🙂

        • Danny Winter says:

          Hi HT.

I’ve spent a little time looking around Vital and others for ideas (read as things I can nick) and I’d honestly say Spurs fans are no different to anyone else on the score. It seems naturally wrong because you’d want to celebrate a good win more than a bad loss, but colours aside, it’s largely the same thing I think. But yes, football as an outlet we all seem to strangely forget that in a win – and I’m to blame as well.

Silly bunch of sod’s us humans aren’t we.

          • Hot Tottingham says:

            Yes we are…

Hey, I get angry with Jose, footballers, VAR, FIFA, the FA, the TW, Roy Keane, other supporters etc, etc…. I’m no different really.

I just wanted to enjoy the moment….. But it’s all good. Others have now joined in now 🙂

          • Danny Winter says:

I’m sharing it virtually with you mate. I expected the first half – not the second and certainly not the obsession with the left hand side on penalties. Small things! lol

I bid you goodnight, my fingers are beginning to give up now but the news on Sonny is massive – as Bale should be back (at least as a sub) around that time as well, so it’s all good!

  • block 108 spurs says:

COYS… and jose… This game had everything… 100mph 1st half chelsea, fouls and yellow cards not given. Spurs having a go back in 2nd half, 10 men and then 11 again..jose running down the tunnel also having a go at lampard.. Coco scoring, penalty shootout with dunny lad eric (sorry geof) scoring 1st penalty, and hk10 the final one. 🙂

Now onto the next game, thursday. keep it going jose and the lads.

  • El Jefe says:

Sonny and Bale could be back after the international break – now THAT is something to really and truly look forward to – Woooooooooooo LOL!

Dirty Chelskia scum – fouling all over the place and pretty much getting away with it – credit to the lads for plugging away and great 2nd half – pretty much dominated it barring 1 or 2 counter attacks but when you’re chasing a game like we were, etc those things can happen and you just need a bit of luck to go your way and finally it did ………!

Hmmm what a bloody pass by Toby, Reguilon barring that few seconds of loconess (LOL) was bloody quality, Lamela also – absolutely brilliant the way he battled constantly, etc – Dier top game finally, Aurier good game also and in general all were worthy of a mention – Spursy – what Spursy – bunch of battlers not bottlers – Woooooooooooooooo LOL!

    VIVA 1 Jose Mou-rin-ho ALSO – Woooooooooooooo – LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • El Jefe says:

“Nobody. We don’t have a nine.”

LOL – DL, etc getting the bloody message AT LAST YET?!

Get a bloody move on and get that man a 2nd STR – LOFL!

  • El Jefe says:

I believe the QF is in Xmas week basically no less – something extra to look forward to then around that time – cheers LADS! Also hopefully we get a favourable draw – here’s hoping anyway – we did just knock out Chelskia after all LOL – take a home tie to start with again for sure …………..!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Firminho a centre forward? Not in my book he ‘aint, that’s not to say he isn’t a decent attacking playing who can play across a fluid front three for Liverppol.

    • Hot Tottingham says:

That’s exactly what I thought TQ…… As though Liverpool play with a traditional CF… I can’t see that myself. I can’t see it with most top, winning teams over quite a few years now.. Not even the Foxes with Vardy, when they won the PL…

But, we all see it differently, I suppose…

  • TQ2Spurs says:

One of Liverpool or Arseanal will be out before the next round which will help EJ!

  • Geofspurs says:

I just woke up and can’t watch the game for another couple of hours (it’s on Chelsea TV on Foxtel). Normally I would avoid the result but I just couldn’t resist a quick visit to BBC Sport. NICE!!!
