Match Thread – VAR Needs To Be Pensioned Off & Spurs Will Be Hoping To Do Just That To Chelsea

|

I’m pretty sure what can be said about the Video Assistant Referee (lack of) technology from a Tottenham Hotspur point of view will have been aired on Sunday evening and throughout Monday, but it’s time for us to quickly move on to Chelsea on Tuesday evening in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

Having received a bye against Leyton Orient, that little break clearly helped us against Shkendija and Newcastle when it came to the more ‘Spurs like’ attacking performances we saw, but as we all know, we did not get our just deserts against Steve Bruce’s side.

We cannot make that mistake again against Chelsea as they more than have the quality to punish us, so whilst we can be optimistic we will create chances – they have to be taken and Newcastle is the lesson.

Our chances aren’t improved by an injured Son Heung-Min but we have to hope that is the last blow to come from the weekend’s action – Tuesday night, fresh game, fresh opportunity and let’s all hope it’s a fresh win to put Sunday’s nightmare well and truly behind us.

Chelsea...

I did say English leagues, not PL… Got the date wrong! Well that might mean even a longer than expected few more days wait, before we see your love-child, JK in the Lilywhite shirt of Spurs….

The tension can be cut with a knife… A blunt one!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

EJ…… Lucas might be a shorthouse but has amazing springs in his heels and has scored some decent headed goals when up against tall defenders.

  • El Jefe says:

HT – maybe this is a stupid question so forgive my “stupidity” if so – but “English leagues”?! Where would you define the PL as being then LOL?!

I just hope if he does come – he proves worthwhile – otherwise you and others on here won’t let me live it down LOL! I think worst case at £15m and if did not work out in 1-2 years we could still get our money back and then look elsewhere indeed maybe Parrott might be ready to step up already for example!

TQ – great point about Lucas – point conceded there indeed (and can’t believe I actually forgot this lol) as I’ve often on here mentioned his great leap for a shortie LOL but still can’t see him as a target/link-up man unfortunately – stealing in compared to being the focal point are 2 completely different matters!

So I’ll stick with JK for now LOL especially over the likes of Benteke, Deeney, Seferovic and even an injury prone and ridiculously expensive (in wage terms anyway up to £160K apparenly) Milik, etc!

To be fair to myself – practically all our fans on social media pages, etc are in favour and OK with JK also – so hoping it gets done and we finally have some decent cover for the big man at last indeed ……….!

As for tonight – COYS END OF LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Yes EJ, that is a stupid question.

  • Niall D says:

HT a lot of good points here..
I’m with you re-selection. Surely Sess, Reg, and Dele should be up for selection tonight.
You would think they would be good enough to hold their own against the Chavs tonight.
I don’t think we have the leisure to play HK 10, Sonny(I know he’s injured), or even Lucas.
I don’t necessarily want to see LoCeslo, Winksy, Hoj, or ND risked either tonite.
We have a decent enough second 11 to “rest” these players and maybe, just maybe eeek out a result.
I think in honesty it will be a tight score a goal either way will decide it.
Barring Penalties and of course the evil VAR.
Sonds like a Dr Who villian.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Lloris (C), Alderweireld, Dier, Tanganga, Aurier, Gedson, Ndombele, Sissoko, Reguilon, Bergwijn, Lamela.

Subs: Hart Doherty Sanchez Davies Hojbjerg Lucas Kane

  • El Jefe says:

So you don’t define the PL as an English league then?!

Now I’m confused as fcuk here!

    • Hot Tottingham says:

What is there to be confused about? It’s bloody obvious that I know that the English PL is an English League… 🙂

But, the EPL is a separate entity to the English Football League… (The clubs below the PL)

Why am I having this conversion? Where am I? Help!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I’m not sure how the formation goes… But it looks like it could be a back 3 with 2 wing-backs and Reguilon high up… ??? Interesting!

  • El Jefe says:

HT – must say – just burst out laughing and still am fair play there – literally LOL – bloody hell – “Where am I” indeed LOL!

To be fair here though HT – this morning I was actually confused about the ruling (which I’d heard about ages ago but not investigated on further) so was wondering if Prem clubs could also trade with each other as if it was a purely “English thing” (Brexit style LOL) until I read that Prem clubs could not trade between themselves and only with lower league clubs, thus when you originally said English leagues – I thought you might also be confused as I was before, so was just trying to clear it up and be helpful – no harm done – all’s well that ends well of course LOL!

Great comedy as usual mate – BRAVO!

Now for the more serious stuff – 50 mins to go – so also yes fully agreed interesting selection and now wanting to see how they are actually going to line up – seems we’re going to try and keep it tight – fair play I guess – maybe Bergs can burst onto a through ball showing similar pace, etc as did against Man Yoo last season when he scored against them at the THS ………….. here’s hoping!

    CCCCCCCOOOOOOOOYYYYYYSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Yes, EJ. Any club residing in the leagues below the EPL, when they play a PL club, away from home; the players and manager etc., need a visa and a passport…

Damn! Life was so much more simple when it was just Division 1 , Division 2, Division 3 and Division 4!

Not to mention the Combination League and the Isthmian League! 😉

    • Wentworth says:

Omg what an awful team. Looks like the best we can get is 0-0.Dele would have livened it up a bit. Jose too pig headed to pick him. Again it shows our lack of another front man. How can we play with 10 behind the ball.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Given all that, what is now confusing me; is that tonight we will be watching two EPL clubs playing each other in the EFL cup!

    Beam me up Scotty (Parker)!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Chelsea team

Starting XI: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Tomori, Chilwell, Jorginho, Kovacic, Hudson-Odoi, Mount, Werner, Giroud

  • El Jefe says:

HT – wasn’t trying to be funny or daft – honestly did not register that you meant EFL – just took “English leagues” as meaning ALL English leagues including PL – like I said only found out today that Prem clubs could definitely not trade between themselves after next Monday 11pm!

For example the window in Portugal actually closes on the 6th October because the 5th is a national holiday – so all Portuguese sides can still trade nationally on the 6th with each other!

Anyway like I said all’s well that ends well and all that and glad we got it cleared up in the end – no worries ……….!

    COYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Absolutely no game plan as usual other than hope for the best. His favourite tactic of long balls doesn’t apply tonight. It seems he has nothing else except everyone behind the ball and hope for the best.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

What the hell are Jose’s tactics for this game? What was his team talk? “Just let them have the ball lads in as much space as they want. We’re not good enough to win this, so don’t even try”.

  • 123spurs says:

pretty shocking to be honest. Spurs best form of defense is to attack and out put them under pressure. Spurs and these players can’t soak up pressure we will always concide, lamps getting the better of jose again pretty embarrassing.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

On a brighter note… We are only 0-1 down and Chelsea haven’t troubled Hugo bar the goal.

Oh, and Lucas and Kane are in the house…..

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Better from Spurs…

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Eric caught short! Haha!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Goooaaalll!
    Erik!!
    Let’s win this!
    Come On You Spurs!
