Match Thread – Spurs To Set The Record Straight Against The Bubble Blowers

|

With only one Premier League victory in our last five, Tottenham Hotspur received a much needed boost on Thursday evening as we more than took advantage over OPellets Wolfsberger in our Europa League Round of 32 tie and this Sunday we renew acquaintances with bubble blowers West Ham United.

With Harry Kane rested in midweek, Son Heung-Min also got 45 minutes off and a number of players would’ve received a nice shot of confidence from getting on the scoresheet – but of course, Sunday’s midday kick off will be a different story and the Spammers are in reasonable form of their own, sitting six points ahead of us in the table. Admittedly we have a game in hand on them, but how they have scored more than we have does defy some belief.

We can start putting that situation right though, as there are no doubts whatsoever that if we perform as we know we can, we are more than capable of knocking them off the park.

But as ever, with Spurs this season, it’s down to whether or not we turn up.

For a supposed world class defensive coach, i am surprised Jose rates Dier so much.

  • 123spurs says:

Poch should of got rid of him

  • 123spurs says:

Time to their separate ways, its just one of those things it just aint working out. The team and kose are not going to benefit if this continues. Or do you take the chance keep jose and a huge clear out in the summer.

  • Niall D says:

In the first half, as in many games, our build up was so pedestrian, there was no pace in our team.
Another thing, we have one of the best free kick takers in the world on the pitch in Bale, and HK takes the free kick, come on folks, this is where Harry can get a bit blinkered at times, free kicks are not his forte he’s decent, but not in Bale’s class at them.
Regardless our defence was very poor, I think Dier is OK just OK if he has Toby with him.
    Lloris Heads gone.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

What would be the point of spending many millions just to bring in a different group of players that don’t want to play for him? It’s what eventually happens wherever Jose goes.

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

Oh come on you guys! We had 20 attempts on goal, 4 on target, 70% of the play against what is now a top. Premier league team. They had just four attempts on goal. With just a bit of luck we could have got a result today. Yet I note that someone here has still slagged us off for our defensive play while others can’t resist putting the boot in, completely ignoring the positives in the game. As supporters we should at least try to be fair in our criticism and give any credit where it’s due. But I suppose it makes you feel better to have a go at your favourite scapegoats.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I think you’re right Niall, Lloris has become a liability, he’s probably angling for a move to PSG. He is full of errors lately, the first goal was down to his indecision over coming for a ball that he should have claimed.

  • Spurfect One says:

The first goal was a number of defensive errors, embarrassing really, Son in the first phase for not bothering to close down the cross and Lloris for not taking the ball, also Dier for not taking control as he was on the right side to defend Antonio.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Blimey Stan, are we supposed to absolve them for 60 minutes of absolute dire play just becuse they decided to extract the digit and play some decent football for the final 30?

    • Stan Rosenthal says:

Nonsense TQ2! I suggest you take a closer look at those 60 mins. Some pretty good attacking moves instigated mainly by an in-form Lamela. If he hadn’t got that soft yellow he could have added to our fire-power in the second half. That absolutely dire play still left us with those impressive match figures I have referred to.

  • TK says:

I don’t remember being equally conflicted as a Spurs supporter in all my many decades loving the club. I hate to see us lose–especially to the Upton Park refugees–off with their bloody heads–to a non-football stadium abomination. But since each loss inches us closer to the end of José Mourinho–for me, the the worst disaster in our team’s history–a strange negativity creeps in and it smiles at the loss. Please help me, oh fates. Send the not-so-special man away quickly so that some peace can return to me. I do not like having anything resembling an internal smile at a Spurs loss. Such is the pernicious effect of this arrogant git in the touchline. Please allow me to return to being a normal supporter who cries at all losses. This current situation is not tolerable.

  • TK says:

A rhetorical question: How many months ago was it that THFC was in the final match of the CL? Not all that many. Now José Mourinho leads us through an arid desert with no apparent plan except to reach the lower levels of mediocrity. Bad results on top of lousy karma.

  • Shroppie says:

You can change the manger and install Pep for example
But it will not change the mediocre players we have
    Dier will always be poor

  • Allan says:

Um … What another sad result .
It was noticeable the class Bale brought onto the field and allowed Doherty the space to cross badly !!. We have missed a quality creative player which has partly lead to our pedestrian play .
I thought some of our play was a definate improvement on recent performances and if we could get Bale fitter he could be the impetus needed to help get us out of a very big hole we have got into .
What can you say ref the defence ? As mentioned in previous posts we needed a good quality experienced centre back but bought Rodon !!
Levy as usual was being tight fisted and also employing JM which now sees us in this difficult situation .
To sack him is going to cost upwards ( reported ) £ 30 million I and cannot see any replacement available .
Even if there was someone would he be able to turn things round especially with the defence we have ?

  • block 108 spurs says:

A very disappointing result for spurs. West ham had the luck of the referee decisions, (booked spurs players while west ham got away with it more than spurs) when 1st goal was a blatant body check foul on chest of reggie which VAR should have given as this led to the 1st goal in flow of play, and dier / lloris calamity made it worse. As I said spammers would be up for this and they were pressing spurs in 1st half, parking the bus most of 2nd half. Bale should have come on start 2nd half, but we missed too many chances, HK10 greedy shooting when sonny was wide and clear being some of them.

Yes we were too slow in moving the ball, and sideways and back again, passing sloppy, 1st half. But all in all it wasn’t our day… ball hitting the woodwork, goalie saves, and wide shots gave us what we deserved.

Jose has crossed a line with treatment of dele / bale and his 2 months of “effective ” top class football results & media comments today, so it his time here is fast running out now, as players errors are as bad or worse than ever. Which means they are not confident in the manager. We should have got Lingard on loan, as we had a chance? or did he refuse cos of Jose time at Man Utd?

    • TQ2Spurs says:

block……..United probably allowed Lingard to go to the spammers because they saw them as less than a threat than us!

  • TK says:

Hope you’re feeling well enough, Frank, but we need you posting on here to point out how DL is responsible for all the mediocre players we have and for the horrible manager who has no intuitive appreciation for decency. The hiring of JM by DL has broken any hope for a brighter future while DL makes the decisions.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    TK….he did – on page 2! 🙂

  • TK says:

Any player who would come to N17 because Mourinho is manager is a player I don’t was to come to N17. Such a player would be lacking in basic understanding of life. My fondest dream would be for JM to manage the Arse n holes.

  • Niall D says:

    B108
I think you just about nailed it with your post.
Stan I do get where your coming from, I was all for giving JM a chance and agree that perhaps it wasn’t as bad as other performances, but it’s the result on the back of the other performances that at least for me has me feeling this way, why is it always us that hits the bar, post, doesn’t get the VAR decision.
JM very much inherited this defence, he was given time and money and hasn’t improved us IMO
So yes we were better today m8 but still not good enough.

  • TK says:

    TQ2,
    🤪

  • Allan says:

Niall . Yes he inherited the defence but I feel that he wasn’t given sufficient money to improve it . Rodon on last TW day ???
Levy did provide some funds but who did he buy of good quality ?
I am not absolving Mourinho from blame but he can only work with the players he is allowed to have . However his methods may not be suitable for the dressing room ? Levy yet again is the root cause of our problems and until we get him out tha club will continue to fail .
