With only one Premier League victory in our last five, Tottenham Hotspur received a much needed boost on Thursday evening as we more than took advantage over OPellets Wolfsberger in our Europa League Round of 32 tie and this Sunday we renew acquaintances with bubble blowers West Ham United.
With Harry Kane rested in midweek, Son Heung-Min also got 45 minutes off and a number of players would’ve received a nice shot of confidence from getting on the scoresheet – but of course, Sunday’s midday kick off will be a different story and the Spammers are in reasonable form of their own, sitting six points ahead of us in the table. Admittedly we have a game in hand on them, but how they have scored more than we have does defy some belief.
We can start putting that situation right though, as there are no doubts whatsoever that if we perform as we know we can, we are more than capable of knocking them off the park.
But as ever, with Spurs this season, it’s down to whether or not we turn up.
Lloris
Tang Sanchez Dier Reg
Hoj Ndombele
Moura Lamela Son
Harry
Glad to have Reg back Just hope Antonio doesn’t bully back 2 too hard as Dier is prone to pens
Just hope also that Lamela is not goaded into reckless challenges leading to a red !
But a good set up and hope to get a result .
Well done TQ2
Your fingers work quicker than mine !!!
I thought I was the only one here Allan so nearly didn’t bother, I was hoping HT would be back to post the side as usual.
Antonio is a big threat, he generally plays well against us. Like most bullies if you get in first it usually subdues them so hopefully one of Dier or Sanchez can let him know who is boss early in the game! 🙂
I had a gut feeling they would score in 1st 5 min
I think I’m going back to bed, I’ve only just turned on and we’re already behind.
Dier is usual best again
You just can’t this 1st 11 turning it around, none of the subs ever has a run of games.
Jose and his pathetic flops are getting hammered
Absolute horseshit…
Pathetic first half yet again, didn’t wake up and start playing until around 60 minutes.
Jose’s decision to make Dier our NO1 CB will ultimately cost him his Job.
They had 3 on target 2 goals, thought we were the better of two mediocre teams, we didn’t really start until the 2nd half, Bale starting to actually go through the gears, but too little too late, new defecnce and goal keeper required, Dier yet again at fault for both goals, however question marks over both their goals, I thought a foul on Regs in the build up for their first and was Lingard onside? A tough call.
But we didn’t play really until Bale came on. Sannchez back to Holland, Lloris to France, Dier to the subs bench and Mourinho to a retirement home in Portugal.
I wouldn’t have put the blame on Dier for the first goal, the cross was into the goalies territory and he should have called to Dier and claimed the ball. It didn’t help that Sanchez was way out of position in the left back slot at the time, after all, he appeared to have been given the job of marking Antonio but allowed himself to be drawn out of position.
Watch the goal back. Dier is on the defending side of Antonio, yes Lloris should have collected, but if you’re a defender and you don’t hear a call, you have to do better.
Excellent fight back in the circumstances. By circumstances I mean a gift goal for the Hammers in the first five minutes, an overruled offside goal and the luck being right against us throughout, culminating in two shots hitting the woodwork. Heads could well have dropped with all this going on but we kept up the pressure to the end with some great attacking moves and Bale, playing a full part for a change. The problem now is not the absence of attacking football but the absence of any luck and our damned defence. Even when Reg came back he was obviously rusty from his long lay off.and was partially responsible for their first goal. Typical! If somehow we can tighten up at the back and get some run of the ball we can still win something this season.
The decisions definitely weren’t going our way today but I don’t think luck comes into it, our first half performance was dreadful. You could see Ndombele getting hugely frustrated at not having anyone in space to pass forward to, there just wasn’t enough movement from the front players to create space for themselves.
Stan come on now, Reg been rusty, he was out for a few weeks, you swear he didn’t kick a ball for 2 years.
Jose has just said that there are problems in the team that as a coach he cannot fix. Is that your resignation speech then Jose. I certainly hope so.
Sounds like he is admitting defeat. The statement is probably carefuly worded in so far as it suggests that as a ‘coach’ he isn’t able to fix issues that a ‘manager’ with wider powers might be able to. Didn’t Poch suggest something similar?
How many more results like this does it take for Levy to admit he got it horribly wrong again when employing yesterday man Mourinho, get rid, and get in somebody in who has half a clue, before this season becomes a total disaster. Not only are the results terrible but the way we play is boring and awful. If we continue like this and fail to qualify for Europe, not only will we struggle to keep our best players, but we will be unable to persuade anybody of quality to want to come in. It’s all very well having a wonderful 1 billion stadium, but you need a team to attract fans to fill it consistently. Leicester are proving once again that what goes on on the pitch is the most important thing for a football club. Mind you Daniel has proved many times during his tenure that team performance and playing success is not his priority, hence our less than prolific trophy collection under ENIC off 1 minor trophy in 12 years. He is lucky that the ground is empty during lock down and there is no frustration and anger coming from the crowd. Beating some Austrian pub team in the EL is all very well, but our PL form and league position are a disgrace for club of our standing. Come back Poch, all is forgiven.
Of course, comments such as this can just as easily be used by someone in an attempt to deflect the blame away when they just can’t do their job very well.
Levy has to now realise his mistake and find a new manager, can only hole this is his last game, can let Kedleston take over till someone one in, i don’t even see the point of waiting till the end of the season, it will only get worse.
