Match Thread – Spurs To Find Their Form Again As We Banish Bielsabub

|

After the deeply deflating events on Wednesday evening as a once again wasteful Tottenham Hotspur failed to capitalise on both chances and possession to secure a result against struggling Burnley, we now have the pleasure of a trip to Elland Road to face Marcelo Bielsa’s erratic roadrunning Leeds United side.

Having largely wasted our games in hand, despite the unexpected but fantastic victory over Manchester City, we remain comfortable (is that the word?) in eighth place and Leeds are 16 points behind us in fifteenth and with three straight defeats and four defeats in five, on paper this again screams victory.

But Spurs don’t do ‘paper’ and with four defeats in the last five for us as well, it could become a very ugly Saturday if we are again not on it. Leeds offer no surprises in their play, but plenty have slipped up if you don’t match them and we simply can’t let it happen again.

Spurs players should have now realised the reality of their actions in the 4 PL losses in 5 games.. It is unacceptable to fans and especially an emotional Conte Hopefully he has calmed down a bit ! .Also I thought that we played to burnley strengths and must not do similar again at leeds as they will be motivated to avenge their defeat by Liverpool.

Levy has to get his financial backing for transfers in & out into gear and show conte and fans he has serious commitment in getting spurs back to CL status… There is no stadium build to distract him now…So I wait and hope that Joe / Levy / Directors actually do now what is best for the football team and not ENIC property empire. As one trophy in 22 years (2008) is embarrassing and despite various finals / PL 2nd place (2017) all we have is losers status. Also a trophy winning team will alleviate the negative atmosphere and add to the value or even the sale of THFC for ENIC

Well, Well, Well, poker face time, is conte losing the dressing room. A loss to struggling Leeds and the season is a write of. Serious decisions needs to be made.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Block 108 – I love your sense of humour. Levy to give financial backing. I can tell it’s a Friday. Also your assumption that Conte is the man he needs to give his backing to is also rather funny. He will be gone well before the next transfer window opens.
In all honesty if backing means leaving the squad with zero creativity in midield, the two worst right backs in the league by a distance and no back up centre forward then maybe we could do without his support or Paratici’s embarrasing recruitment skills.
123spurs – I hate to break it to you but this season is already a write off unless you consider fighting for the Europa Conference League spot worth pursuing. Nothing more than that is acheivable with this weak unbalnced squad, with the manager who already wants out and with a seriously disgruntled fanbase who are being royally ripped off by Levy.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

As this is a thread for the Leeds game I should add that it should be an open game which could go either way. Two teams hopelessly out of form, Leeds way better going forward (at least they have some creativity) Spurs marginally better at defending but hopeless when they are pressed – which Leeds love to do. It should be entertaining, both on the pitch and in the dug out as the countdown to Conte’s demise gathers pace.

  • Allan says:

Looking at the roller coaster of our season so far it wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t beat Leeds .
Most teams except City have worked us out and understand our obvious weaknesses which has resulted in a run of poor results and I don’t envisage the pattern changing at the weekend .
However who can predict with any certainty how the team will perform and what the result will be given the form of both teams

  • Allan says:

I haven’t a clue what the outcome will be at the weekend considering our haphazard and roller coaster of a season .
Most teams , except City ,recently have worked out our obvious weaknesses and played on these weaknesses .
I expect Leeds to play on do the same and with their speed down the left will give our right sided defence a torrid time .
However they do make mistakes in defence which will help Harry and co .

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Wow……so the guy generally regarded as the best manager in world football, and his all dominating team, singularly and collectively failed to work out our weaknesses!

I think you are overlooking where the real problem lies.

  • Allan says:

    Sorry 2 similar posts !!!

  • PompeyYid says:

Here we go, we will win this one, there I dared to said it!

It will be close but we will win it.

BS, you can call me out again if you like, but am ever the optimist lol!

Am not going to go into details how, but maybe Conte’s presser after the Burnley game might just have been the kick up the backside that was required, who knows?

Saw his presser earlier, 1.30pm, seems to have got the bit between his teeth, we shall see. COYS

  • Spurfect One says:

I’m expecting a loss. Leeds will press us to death and we have all seen what happens when we get pressed. If i’m Conte i would drop both Sessegnon and Royale. Luckily Reggie should be game ready and i would like to see Kulu being played at RB, Surely he can’t be no worse than Royale and Doherty. Sessegnon is offering us nothing and doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near the starting 11.

  • wentworth says:

Looks as though we have Winks (driving?) the midfield tomorrow. Just shows how poor our squad is. Also one hit wonder Bergweijn and ineffective Sessegnon are still warming the bench.
So frustrated we haven’t any young stars to lighten up the mediocrity. Why do we have to keep picking failures? Is there really no one else???

  • Niall D says:

Will we win tomorrow, I could as easily say I’ll win the lottery, I know which I’d prefer.
Thing is, we can win and win well, that’s the nature of this league, on our day, we are a good team.
Leeds for all their chasing are in many ways, a one trick pony, when they get it right, it’s a good watch, but when they are getting it wrong it can be calamitous for them, lets hope for the latter…
Our squad needs fixing this is obvious we don’t have the depth to change up play ourselves, some of our players appear to have regressed, so after Wednesday nite we’re back in the chasing pack, and Arsenal’s very lucky result didn’t help.
Conte has calmed down again, but at least he is showing a passion to win, I do hope he sticks, around as he can improve us, but only with some different players.
Hoping for a win, wife is nagging me to go shopping tomorrow, no chance 😉🛒

  • PompeyYid says:

Not long now folks to the telling hour!…will he, wont he, will we, wont we!

Hope everyone watching, whether it be live, attended or on TV, are happy and smiling after a win! COYS

  • Allan says:

Devine has apparently travelled but Conte is still relying on Winks with Doherty replacing Emerson . Glad that Sess has been given another chance . Surely he will gradually improve with more game time ? Moura is injured but we still enough quality up front to make them pay for any defensive mistakes they might make ?

  • wentworth says:

OMG….what a depressing lineup. Doherty, Winks and Sessegnon. These three would not get anywhere near the squads of top 6 teams.
Surely, surely we can do better than this.
I bet Leeds fall over and let us win today so these three can become temporary heroes.
We really do have the most mediocre squad of players I can remember …. that memory goes back 65 years. So many poor signings who have gone backwards in most cases.
Can’t wait for the summer transfer window to offload at leats 6..just give them away and save on wages.

    • wentworth says:

Unbelievable. Sessegnon and Doherty combine to score. Must be my influence!!!!

      • wentworth says:

Thank you Leeds for making us look good and saving Conte’s job. Just what we needed.
Now bring on Devine and White.

  • Love totty says:

Even at 3 up I wouldn’t bet my house on a win. Great goals but comedy defending again. Every clearance is weak or straight to an opponent.

  • wentworth says:

Very impressed with Romero. Top footballer in the Beckanbauer mould of defenders. Loads of time and cool.
Winks still buzzing around passing backwards every time. What is the matter with him. Give him a periscope.

  • 123spurs says:

Spurs have been hot n cold this season, levy will be interviewing plumbers for the job.

    Great 3 points.

  • Geofspurs says:

I’m beginning to think it might have been a pretty good TW after all.

    • wentworth says:

Many thanks to Leeds for gifting the 3 points today. We scored good goals on the break again because they were all out attack and allowed Kane and Son to run on to long balls.
However, we are still lacking in midfield and wing backs. Winks is awful. Sessegnon and Doherty are no where near good enough so is Bergweijn.
Our football is ok but hardly exciting. Leeds made us look good having leaked 14 goals in recent games.
New signing looks a good prospect on right. Took his goal well and cuts in on too left with a good shot on him.
So much to put right in summer. At least we should finish top ten.
      Respite for Conte.

  • Love totty says:

I saw nothing to suggest that we have a team/squad capable to top 4 this year. I’m not sure it the lack of movement to receive a pass or the speed of thought to make one, but the usual result is loss of possession. Our goals come from through balls that our strikers can run on to, but only when counter attacking. We struggle to build attacks from a dominant position as we get forced back and end up giving hospital passes out of defence. Even Leeds created loads of chances to score. Conte seems to suggest that it is a winning mentality that is lacking but for me it’s ability.

  • Niall D says:

Hi Folks, well as, I said we could win and, win well, and we did.
Unlike LT’s synopsis of the game, I thought we controlled the game well, we had lots of possession quite a few chances, and for me could’ve scored more if needed, but when 3 up we just dictated the pace, indeed they had a couple of breakthroughs, which came to nowt.
But I thought that our front 3 were easily all 9 out of 10, Winks and Hoj were a good 7.5 as we’re Sess and Doh, Dier and Romero were a good 8 out of 10 the rest around 6, so if we’re achieving those sort of marks we’re doing OK.
Still in and around top 5/6.
Leeds are an athletic team who know where the goal is, so to keep a clean sheet against them is very good, there are those who will say about the “woodwork” even at that it would be 4-2, and but for the “woodwork’ we’d have drawn at S’oton and Burnley, so we got the luck today.
A good result against a hard working team, we played well. COYS.
