Match Thread – Spurs Target Three From Three With Watford Up Next

|

With an aggregate victory over Pacos de Ferreira in last night’s Europa Conference League clash, it turns Nuno Espirito Santo’s start to life at Tottenham Hotspur from good, to quite impressive.

Three wins from four as we head towards September, is no bad return, especially given the confusion and issues we have to deal with – although thankfully the future of Harry Kane is now off the table until at least next summer. Everyone hopes the squad is added to, a most have their preferences for who we move on to help cashflow, but for now, it’s all eyes to Watford.

It’s been a mixed start for the Vicarage Road outfit with a win and a defeat from their opening two ties, so arguably ‘form’ is in our favour for whatever that counts for at this early stage of the season, but the return of Kane is a massive confidence booster on top of what has been a defensively steady beginning.

Let’s see if we can make it three PL wins from three and then get a bit more business done.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

One of the biggest scamdemic in history, So to stop the possible risk of covid spread they decided to send 30 people onto a pitch to mix with 20 others, seems like a good idea.

These sorts of games are a complete waste of time, the only benefit is to give some one a run out in an England shirt as a Thankyou.
More annoying when I’m not exactly an England fan and would rather see the Premier league up and running ASAP.
Get these lesser teams to play each other to qualify even to play in this part of the world Cup, next we’ll see the Isle of Man with a team.

TQ …. Did you watch any WSL? I thought Spurs should have won by more. There was a lot to be optimistic about their performance. Much more creative going forward, looked sharper on the ball and a more cohesive unit. Once the new players settle in things could get very interesting.

No VAR in the WSL …. the result of this being one goal not given despite the ball crossing the line, and another goal given (for Arsenal) despite being at least a yard offside. Both were clearly obvious on replays. That needs fixing.

Geof… I have also been watching WSL for a while now. Two strikers I think are great, Vivian M. Arsenal and Ellen White Man City. I think there is not enough money in WSL to pay for VAR at the moment, so have to get on with the old fashioned way of ref , and 2 linesmen.

Spurs ladies have had a big turnaround in manager, and players out and in, so we need to see them higher than 8th position as in last season, and win silverware in any competition… Just like the men’s team (7th in league last season) need to do…. COYS

    Morning guys!

Yes Geof, I watched our game on Saturday and the derby yesterday. I agree that we look a better team now but still have the same issue with not being able to score, the one we did get was a little fortuitous. I’m not sure why our new Aussie striker wasn’t with the squad, I’m assuming she either hasn’t completed her pre-season or maybe is recovering from an injury?

Anyway, despite our overall squad improvement we are still miles behind the big 4 who have also invested in even more talent over the summer. I think we are in danger of missing the bus with the women’s team as well, surely the club operation works as a whole and any income can be utilised to improve both mens and womens squads? We should be investing now while fees and wages are sensible as it won’t be long before the women’s game closes the gap with the men’s in terms of income and player wages and transfer fees which will make it harder to close that gap.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Closing the rather large gap between ourselves and the big 4 that is.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Should have said….I also watched the Everton v City game which demonstrated very clearly the gap between the big 4 and the rest, this despite Everton’s spending over the summer to try to improve on their 5th place last season.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I’m not suggesting it is the reason for poor decisions in the WSL but I understand from the commentator in the derby game that the match officials in the this league are not yet professionals which is surely something that needs rectifying in view of the massive growth in the women’s game.

    • Geofspurs says:

Once they realise how much money can be made from the WSL things might change. I would have thought all WSL teams come under the umbrella of the parent club …. so, as you say, they should start investing now.
The sooner they bring in goal-line technology and VAR the better.

I thought Spurs were much more creative in this game than anything I saw last season. If they continue to create the goal opportunities we saw on Saturday the goals will come …. at least against most of the other teams.

I was a bit surprised that Kerr and Kirby did not start for Chelsea. That was a mistake.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Geof…yes that was a surprise, I understood Kerr starting on the bench was due to her delayed pre-season due to the olympics, not sure about Kirby.

I felt that the Chelsea squad haven’t yet shaken off the dust from the close season, I’m sure they will get into their stride very quickly!

  • 123spurs says:

Arsenal 3rd goal was a mile offside, commentator said just on and then just off, her whole body was ahead of the defender.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

As a Spurs supporter it’s difficult to know whether to feel sympathy for Chelsea or curse the Gooners luck! lol
