Match Thread – Spurs Target Three From Three With Watford Up Next

|

With an aggregate victory over Pacos de Ferreira in last night’s Europa Conference League clash, it turns Nuno Espirito Santo’s start to life at Tottenham Hotspur from good, to quite impressive.

Three wins from four as we head towards September, is no bad return, especially given the confusion and issues we have to deal with – although thankfully the future of Harry Kane is now off the table until at least next summer. Everyone hopes the squad is added to, a most have their preferences for who we move on to help cashflow, but for now, it’s all eyes to Watford.

It’s been a mixed start for the Vicarage Road outfit with a win and a defeat from their opening two ties, so arguably ‘form’ is in our favour for whatever that counts for at this early stage of the season, but the return of Kane is a massive confidence booster on top of what has been a defensively steady beginning.

Let’s see if we can make it three PL wins from three and then get a bit more business done.

Watford...

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

Probably not Geof and it would surely pile the fan pressure onto Arteta.

I see we are being linked with a late cheeky bid for Bissouma, this would be a better signing than Traore for similar money IMO.

So far spurs 1st team players have shown a stronger mental fortitude and played with more stronger efforts. Seems like the fear they had of jose haranguing them and being subjected to bad assessments in the dressing room and training ground has almost gone.

HK10 either starts and subbed after scoring or a 60th min sub, will boost players and fans, so a 3-0 win is a good bet. Then a 2 points gap at top of the league position will be good for all of spurs players and fans. COYS…

A quick mention …Gooners ?? we at spurs should be laughing at all the abuse and jibes their fans throw at them… after all we have endured similar from them over the years…lol

Whatever happened to Galway Gooner? :- )

  • PompeyYid says:

Its a Geofspurs for me today, another clean sheet and 3 goals scored, 3-0.

So top of league with the Goons bottom, any one remember the last time that happened. COYS

Very true about the gunners, they are in a big mess and arteta just ain’t working for him players are just not up to it. So when he does get the sack. He will still have been more successful then we are with the fa Cup to his name.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Sissok starts for the hornets….probably have is best ever game at NWHL. :- )

  • Geofspurs says:

Okay boys, what I want is for you to score two goals in the first twenty minutes so that I can drift back from the edge of my chair into a more comfortable position and enjoy the rest of the game stress-free. You can score the third goal any time you like. That’s all I want! lol

  • 123spurs says:

If sissoko scores the winner you can only laugh,

  • wentworth says:

Nuno… I picked that team. Another clean sheet please and a few goals for us. Lucas to come on at 65 mins for Bergs when they are tiring. Hope Dele plays a stormer..he is our midfield hope after Harry. Would like to see Gil given 15 mins if we are 3 up.
Sissoko will play a stormer. It has to be. That is written in the stars!!

  • 123spurs says:

We need a back up striker on the bench if we are going to compete. We can’t rely on kane all the time

  • Love totty says:

Looks like Marriner didn’t get the memo.

  • TK says:

Three matches. Three goals for. Zero goals against. nine points. first place. Not a bad beginning to the new regime. So long the misery of the last era. Hello to hope and decent play. Smiles all around. Doff of the cap to our Spurs.

  • TK says:

Let’s have three more just like the first three, but incrementally better each time. Rotation of players. Smiles in place of long horse faces. Can we get in one more player before the window is shuttered? Can we ship out one more, too? Too long a season to go without some Kane backup. (and it’s hard to imagine that I’m speaking of a Kane backup after all the commotion about his fleeing for Qatar gold dressed in light blue.)

  • Love totty says:

Good gritty stuff to control the game. Would like to see more guile or slickness of passing to create more clear cut chances but well done to set a new record for the Mighty Spurs.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Geof….your backside must be as uncomfortable as mine!

We never make things easy for ourselves do we? We need to make more of the dominance in games like these, just highlights our need for an Eriksen type who can unpick packed defences.

  • wentworth says:

A win is a win even when it is boring. Top of the table until Saturday 11th of September.

However, pretty grim game with little decent football. We desperately need a midfield general to control the game and another striker to give Kane a break.

I was right about team selection and both substitutions. Defence and midfield look solid. Skipp and Hojbjerg doing well. Begrweijn looks very tentative and lacks determination and physicality.

Sissoko gave us a couple of cameo moments….a) Whacking the ball at Nuno. b) Hitting the back row of the stand with one of his usual shots from outside the box.

All in all a win.But we need to control the game more against lowly opposition. Should be ok against Palace on the 11th then we have Chelse for a real test on the 19th of September.

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ …. lol. It did keep me interested! Good win.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

WW….I think today shows there are no easy games in the PL. Palace put in a decent performance holding an on fire Wet Spam side to a draw at the taxpayers stadium yesterday.

  • Geofspurs says:

All the results favoured us this weekend and, for once, we took advantage of it.
