With Tottenham Hotspur registering back to back losses once again in the Premier League with the frustrating 3-0 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend, news on Monday of Nuno Espirito Santo’s departure from the club probably didn’t come as a great surprise to anyone.
Wherever you sit on the Nuno debate, there were obvious flaws with his handling of the group and with the players just not stepping up for him, there was a sense of unavoidable inevitability about it.
This of course means we now head into preparations for our Group G clash with Vitesse managerless as the merry-go-round has once again begun, and after October’s slip up against them, we simply couldn’t stomach another defeat if we hope to try and top the table.
With speculation returning about talks being held with Antonio Conte, whether he (or a new face) will be in place by Thursday is open to debate but whoever it is has got a massive job on their hands.
What will be will be, as the ditty goes, we just have to hope our next gamble pays off because the decision makers aren’t going to sack themselves are they.
Allan must disagree to a degree with your last post there.
I feel we have a good few players who are “fixable” and indeed around 6 who need to go.
Now with selling those 5 or 6 we could get around 12o to 150 mil, that would let us buy three very good players at good money, not prospects, but good established players who would slot into the team and make it better.I don’t see much wrong with a loan to buy deal, at worst we won’t be lumbered with a Doherty, Clarke, or Aurier. 😉
The difference between Conte and Mourinho is, perhaps, that whilst Conte did indeed manage Chelsea there was in reality none of that attitude, excuses, blame culture, hatefulness that Jose had.
And whilst indeed his (Jose’s) credentials were very good, by the time he came to us, he was perhaps a busted flush, with too much negative baggage, which many supporters couldn’t accept, and that was before a ball was kicked.
Then the style of play sealed the deal so to speak.when I look back at JM’s time with us I a had a bit of a feeling that he, was just a bit of a mercenary there for the dosh and Jose.
I don’t feel that the same applies to Conte, there is still a hunger a passion and he doesn’t really have that negative history of Mourinho.
I think he does have a plan and I think it is now evident, that perhaps just maybe Mr Levy has gotten the memo to just run finances and leave the football side to the big boys.
It is virtually public record that Levy has been dipping his toe in the bath too much lately and needs to step away from the footballing side of things.
Niall Am with you some of the way esp .selling players . However we have seen that Levy wants top dollar for our players and not really prepared to pay decent money for re[lacements .
I like Conte and hope that he can succeed snd achieve some good performances from those players who are failing at present .
Your last comment is what I have been hinting at for several months . Levy do what you are good at and let others producie creditable footballing sides and make us fans happy .
We have to accept that we have a very average squad with a handful of top players but a wodge of players that will easily be forgotten. Conte has recognised the limitations and will do his best to get more from some of the weaker brethen.
We are no where near a top 4 squad. Our first 11 can just about hang in there but decent subs are non existent.
Our second string is pretty dismal. Many of them need to be moved on. We have made some poor signings…Clarke, Doherty, Sessegnon, Lo Celso, Bergweijn.
Still think Dele can come good once we get that decent midfield controller. So much to do.
Another 45 minutes with no shots on target. 🙁
I’m with you there Allan, WW yep we have a few good players, and putting us up among the top teams isn’t “pie in the sky” I would argue that even last season we were better than Leicester now even this, season we were only just beaten by, what people are calling a reinvigorated W/Ham, so top 5 isn’t beyond us, where we fail to a degree is when we try to compare our selves to Chelsea, Liverpool, Man C then your comments start to bear fruit, and we need to be in and around them squad wise, unfortunately I can’t see it happening in January, but we should start progressing.
Hopefully with a result today COYS.
If conte cant get these players going they’re is no hope. Same ol shit it seems. Doesn’t look like they are playing for conte either. No shots again, seems the new norm.
Time for subs conte, this is clearly not working
Conte affect has done nothing to or for these players, they must have balls of steal or just don’t care.
Very strange subs. No shots on goal against a team weak and wounded who lost last 3.
Wtf is going on seriously. Top4 is gone, so I’d say no europe next season either. No shots on goal, this is so humiliating.
19th in the league for goals scored.
Utter shambles yet again. Pathetic is too easy a word.
We bring on our “super” subs…the hapless right back Doherty at left back AND the one legged wonder Lo Celso (79 appearances.. 5 goals and 6 assists) who misses yet another sitter.Where are our decent subs?
We made Everton look good. Conte has a massive job. Can’t see him improving what we’ve got. So many mediocre players.
Does Lo Celso’s shot count as on target? If not that’s nearly 4 hours of PL play without one. Our lack of a subtitute striker is clearly evident otherwise Kane would be the first subbed off for sure, not only did he not have an attempt on goal the whole match, the majority of his passes went to the opposition.
What do they be doing in training in attack wise, with tactics etc. Looks they do nothing. And what was conte doing and thinking if this was nuno…. in fact I don’t even think nuno would of done these crazy subs.
You’ve got to say that’s a shocking stat for team of our stature with England’s top striker leading the line, only 9 goals sored in 11 PL games. 🙁
We are clearly going to have to be patient, it’s going to take a while for Conte to sort out our issues.
And the other 10 player’s have no shots either.
Romero was very fortunate, he was lucky not to get consecutive red cards.
That’s not quite right 123, we had around 10 shots but none were on target. It’s worrying that neither Kane nor Son had one.
Doh, regs, dier, sanchez, davies, winks, stevie B, lucas, le celso, Time for this lot to move on. We sold a ready made player in lamela, and paid 20 mil for a 20 year old prospect who wont get any game time.
