Match Thread – Spurs Looking To Out Think The Foxes

|

Tottenham Hotspur still have slim hopes of reaching the Europa League this season, but with only two games now remaining in the 2019/20 calendar, it means manager Jose Mourinho simply has to take six points from both Leicester City this Sunday, and then Crystal Palace in a weeks time, if we are to have a European adventure in 2020/21.

Unbeaten in four, with back to back victories, should give us some confidence of achieving just that, and Harry Kane will certainly be in good spirits having crashed through the 200 goals marker – but we all know our play is far from perfect and massive questions remain about performances.

Leicester...

Win

Draw

Lose

Whatever does happen with the chase for Europe, we all know it’s mainly about taking some form, momentum and confidence into next season to try and put what has been a massively difficult, and extremely poor year, completely behind us.

Sensible strengthening to really freshen up the group and what many hope will be a major defensive rebuild would put us on the right track again, but until then, all eyes to the fourth placed Foxes as anything other than a win, simply won’t be good enough.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

Not long now. Time to get excited! Enjoy the game lads.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

When was the last time we saw an unchanged starting 11, 3 matches running?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Maybe when some of your subs were last playing HT. 🙂

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

Winks and Sissoko in midfield again. Not the best pair to have in these positions by a long stretch. N’Dombele still not available. They say it’s down to injuries but I don’t believe it. If we fail to make a European spot I think there should be an inquest into what’s going on here. Not using a £60m asset in the situation we have been in since games were resumed is an absolute disgrace in my opinion. Someone should be held responsible. And if N’Dombele is not regarded as being up to it, surely the manager must take the blame for not getting the best out of a talent worth this sort of money.

  • Danny Winter says:

I half missed the goal, but I thought it was Sonny’s from what I saw. Now being credited as an own goal by Justin – did I miss more of it than I thought?

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Harry Kane at his best… Twice!

    • Stan.Rosenthal says:

Good result but relying on luck, some clinical finishing to much fewer chances than the Foxes had and some super saves against a weakened team is not so reassuring. More dominance and creativity is needed in midfield rather than just stopping the opposition in the last third. That can only come from a change in personnel in my opinion.

  • 123spurs says:

stan, you can bring a horse to the water but cant make him drink it, if players like N’Dombele, not interested not fit and nt willing to put in the effort even though he has talent, or willing not to play for the manager, so who’s to blame………..im sure DC needs an oxygen mask @ half time

  • 123spurs says:

we need a front 3 of Tom, Dick and Harry

  • 123spurs says:

    sit back and 3-0 DH

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Well… We won… 3-0… 3 points…

    I’ll say no more…

    Up the boring Spurs! 😉

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Seond half a bit of a non-event, we protected our 3 goal advantage and they didn’t want to concede any more goals, if they had lost by 4 they would have conceded 4th place in the table to MU on goal ifference.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    *difference

  • Niall D says:

Again not a classic. But we are becoming hard to beat. Which is JM was wanting to instill. I thought we took our goals really well.
LoCeslo had a bit of a poor game, nothing seemed to come off for him. But we had the ball in the onion 4 times (1 disallowed). Leicester were really limited to long shots for all their possion.
Our possession will increase through time.
I noted on another VS post 4 players we could sign. If we get em I feel silverware should be on the table.
At present I’m celebrating the result rather than the performance.
Thought Moura, Sonny and particularly HK10 were brilliant.

  • jod says:

The league table doesn’t reflect how well you played, just whether or not you won. Mourinho understands that, maybe some fans don’t.

  • 123spurs says:

If we lost 3 nil DH would be 1st to comment, blah blah, we win and nowhere to be seen.

    • Hot Tottingham says:

DH will post, 123. But there are other posters that only ever seem to post when we are losing. Ones that have not posted since before the Arsenal match…

      But so what!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    It kind of does jod…

Liverpool in 1st are 35 points ahead of Spurs in 6th. Having won just 1 short of twice as many matches than Spurs. Having played the much, much better football over the full course of the season… We all understand that.

So do you think we played poorly today? I thought we played alright… Not great, not bad. But good enough.

  • 123spurs says:

2 rookies get to FA cup final and they are at their worst. Sadly for spurs all the hype/ shite etc, we are embarrassing, a weak mentality as a club. A laughing stock

  • Ossie.. says:

Good result pleased Harry got his 2 goals but my god that was boring…At this rate we might need to pay the fans to stay the full 90mins when we allowed back…

  • block 108 spurs says:

Similar stats. as last game…. spurs 30% Leicester 70% possession, and a win by a brilliant HK10 finishing his chances, 2nd goal from nothing… As I said in previous post, our players are improving their defending by following jose’s tactical shapes.

Under the present situation of this season… I would have spurs hard to beat yet score on counter attack breakaways, and win. Rather than play pretty and lose! Thought we played Leicester at their own game of long balls to fast running vardy & co. (we had sonny & harry) I agree jose’s telling players wake up and smell the coffee ! play the hard game and get stuck in,give as good as you get (as lamela said), for too long we have had lesser teams Burnley etc. kick and foul / intimidate our players out of the match. COYS

  • Hot Tottingham says:

But I thought the Foxes were there for the taking and that my 5-0 prediction was on the cards being 3-0 up at half time. If we had not sat back so much in the 2nd half, we could’ve killed them off quite easily imo. I’m not complaining this time because I was satisfied enough with that 1st half.

But we didn’t need to be that safe. The Foxes looked spent in defence and we looked sharp when on the attack.

Anyway it is what it is and we won with 2 great goals from HK and a well made one for Sons deflected shot…

    I’m happy…

    • 62rovinella says:

yes ,be happy…..i rather winning anyhow to losing,,,losing makes my head hurts.
      nothing pleases some on here…lose,complain…win,complain….lol..
      all about winning …..coys
