Match Thread – Spurs Looking To Get Saintly On A Wet & Windy Tuesday

|

With Tottenham Hotspur fans hopefully enjoying a good Christmas Day, it was a Boxing Day to savour as we comfortably (albeit not perfectly) put Crystal Palace to the sword with a 3-0 victory at White Hart Lane thanks to efforts from Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min.

With a crammed fixture list, we are back in action on Tuesday afternoon as we make the trip to St Mary’s Stadium to face Ralph Hassenhuttl’s Southampton side. The Saints are in mixed form really, only one win and one loss with three draws in their five matches, but again, as long as we are firing on all cylinders this should be another semi-decent three points for Antonio Conte.

That, of course, does depend on what kind of squad Conte can put out. Cristian Romero and Ryan Sessegnon remain out and Giovani Lo Celso is rated as doubtful, but with the current Covid state of affairs and games already postponed, we’ll have to wait for the morning tests to see who (and how many) are cleared to play.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

Hi Danny hope you had a good Christmas, thanks again for the thread.
Re S’oton, they can be good their day and with Ings back, could be dangerous enough.
Here are some questions to ponder:
Given the rise of Skipp and the possible acquisition of Kessie, if he comes, is Hojberg now surplus to requirements. I have noticed that in recent games he is more bluster than performance or does he do the dirty boring stuff and let Skippy shine??
Will any Argentinian player actually play 4 games in a row for us, without injury. The “Eric Lamella” memorial physio table needs to be a double bed this, weather. 😉😀. In all seriousness Looking for a good solid performance tomorrow 3 – 0 Spurs 1 each Kane, Sonny, Lucas.

  • Danny Winter says:

Cheers Niall. Hope you had a good one yourself. I’ll reply properly when I can move after the food and alcohol lol

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I think Niall is probably a bit sozzled Danny, I’m not aware that Ings has transferred back to Soton! lol

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Win this and the Watford game and we will be in a very good place. With the Gooners hosting City and Chelsea hosting Liverpool at the weekend at least two of the top four are going to drop points. A win for City and a draw in the other game would be very nice thank you.

    • wentworth says:

What on earth are we doing playing Winks and Doherty. Awful players. Lo Celso injured in training yet again. Time to get rid of these 3 now. Pretty grim game struggling against ten men.

My prediction ) – # (in code) lol

Morning all, reporting from the “King” city of the South Coast, our boys are playing the Scum of the South today, on Prime, so a very good win required.

WARNING….There is a local lad from Waterlooville, on the hill North of Pompey, James Ward Prowse playing for them, grrrr! through gritted teeth I will say he is a superb free kick taker, so Spurs lads no stupid fouls in his range area please.

    Come On You Spurs.

With the help of my favourite Xmas gift for this year. An original, mint condition and fully operative Turing Machine. I have managed to successfully decipher Geofs cleverly coded scoreline prediction. 0-3!

Only problem with that, is that he is wrong!

Here is the actual result, according to my own careful and precise calculations.

    Saints 0-5 Spurs!

    Son 4, Kane 1…

And the Spurs go marching on……….

  • Allan says:

I am cautiously optimistic for the future if reports are accurate ref possible signings .
So far I have been extremely impressed with Conte and like Rednap and Poch previously am beginning to enjoy watching my team play some good footie .
So let’s win the next 2 matches , get into the top 4 , hopefully buy a couple of good players in January at the same time getting rid of a couple then we ought to have a good 2nd half to the season .

  • PompeyYid says:

Oh yes, I forgot to thank you Danny for another fine match thread. COYS

  • block 108 spurs says:

A spurs win today will be just what we need… players as well for their confidence…and conte to get more respect and commitment from players, (his tactical plans work) and fans, not forgetting Levy and co.

Another clean sheet and a 2-0 win today please, HK10 and sonny / lucas. COYS

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Substitutes: Gollini, Doherty, Tanganga, Rodon, Skipp, White, Ndombele, Bryan, Lucas.

  • Niall D says:

    Hi folks
Not a great 1st half though the result is back to neutral.
We seem to be overrun in mid field with no link play currently, almost like a Mourinho team.
We are defending too deep with no outlet.
Have had a fortunate decision in the sending off, maybe this are starting to go our way for a change as we’re usually on the wrong end of these.
Re the Ings mistake, heard he, was fit again and think I mistook the guy Armstrong for Ings as they are not un alike, Forgot he had moved 🤔🙄😀 apologies.
But we need to do much better in the 2nd half, with them having 10 men the result should go our way, though the ref is a bit card happy.

  • 123spurs says:

Simple not good enough against average team with 10 men for 50 min, why was the useless dele playing instead of the inform lucas. Sadly 4th has faded.

  • 123spurs says:

Pathetic spursy is back, how has winks even played and dele, conte messed up big-time. Couldn’t score for open play against 10 men. Same ol spurs im afraid

  • wentworth says:

Well that was a shambles. Playing Doherty and Winks is a joke. Bryan Gil is also s bad buy. Clueless. We have at least 5 or 6 players to get rid of urgently. Winks, Lo Celso ,Doherty, N’Dombele, Clarke etc. 2 points lost. Shambolic.

  • 123spurs says:

WW what did dele do today, subbed off. Yes u can like him and be ur favourite but please call him out as not been good enough

  • 123spurs says:

Pity the once great dele ali didn’t step up and take his chance given a starting place. How many chances does this guy need under different managers.

  • jod says:

Frustrating afternoon. Goals being disallowed for offside is one thing but how the hell can it be a foul on the goalkeeper when he never has control of the ball ? I thought Son for once had a poor game but no one really played that well. Even bringing on Moura made no real difference. One thing Conte might have tried when he brought on Gil was switch Doherty to his natural right side and play Gil, who looks a lot more two footed, on the left. But to me it was one of those days, I’ve seen them before and no doubt I’ll see them again. Having said that the point is important, win the two remaining games in hand and we go into fourth a point ahead of Arsenal. Which when we are apparently the worst team on the planet, according to wentworth anyway, is really very impressive. I’ve no sympathy for Southampton over the sending off, if a player doesn’t understand he needs to adjust his behaviour when he’s already on a yellow then he shouldn’t be playing professional football.

    • wentworth says:

We have Doherty with no left foot, Lo Celso with no right foot and Winks with no feet spinning around in ever decreasing circles
123 .. I still think Dele is worth keeping remembering how effective he was with Eriksen pulling the strings.
Today we need a Ward-prowse to run our midfield which is short of a passer and shooter
We had so many chances from outside of the box but only cloggers taking a potshot.
We were very very poor and our lack of creativity was obvious.
Gil is like Lo Celso. So many chances to impress but is out of his depth in the Prem. Poor buy and we must be ruthless and aim higher. No doubt Jod will agree with me. Cheap buys are rarely worth it.

  • Spurfect One says:

The main problem for me was the 2 midfielders who are supposed to offer creativity in the 9 man block saints had all 2nd half, Hoibjerg being the main culprit, i lost the amount of times he passed sideways and back, it was so easy for Saints to get back into shape, we need a Midfielder in there who not only can pass better, but also someone quicker in thought and physically. Winks at least tried some forwarded passes, however, he isn’t good enough either.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

WW…..are you suggesting we should hang on to Dele in case we stumble on a new Eriksen sometime in the next few years?
