Match Thread – Spurs Looking To Bust Burnley Open & Get Back On Track

|

With Tottenham Hotspur firing themselves past Pellets in our midweek Europa encounter, Spurs now know we will face Dinamo Zagreb in the Round of 16 but before we can get carried away with that, we will be looking to get our Premier League form back on track when we welcome Sean Dyche’s Burnley battlers to White Hart Lane this coming Sunday.

With five defeats in our last six games, plenty of confidence can be taken from Wednesday’s clash and plenty of Spurs fans will be hoping manager Jose Mourinho takes the shackles off and we get a decent run out from Dele Alli and Gareth Bale to further boost Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min’s goal hopes.

We could even potentially welcome back the enigma that is Serge Aurier after his spell on the injury sidelines – but Giovani Lo Celso will remain out of contention for at least another couple of weeks as he comes back to fitness.

Burnley won’t be a walkover, no teams at this level are really, but again, there’s no real reason we shouldn’t be confident going into the game, we just need to ensure we turn up.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

Wayne Routledge was loaned out most of the time he was with Spurs, didn’t he?

  • TK says:

    wasn’t he?

  • Niall D says:

Yep that’s what I thought TK, he spent most of his time on loan, but then as you say re Pinar old Harry was quirky too as a manager, had his favourites, old Darren Bent couldn’t get a lookin.

  • 123spurs says:

BAE said he played football for the money not for passion but it was his job nothing else.

    Remember Bassong another Davy?

The mail says it would cost 35mil to sack jose
Some on here that would be money well spent
Levy get your check book out.

Dele behind kane, son to left , bale to right
We all dreamed of this at the start of the season.

  • TK says:

didn’t harry say he’d prefer his wife in front of goal with the ball at her feet than have Darren Bent. ‘Arry was like a carnival ride as a manager. He was special, but not self proclaimed as such. but his Darren Bent comments seemed a bit over the top , verging towards the racist perhaps?

  • TK says:

i like the BAE said this about playing. It was his job, and he took it seriously and did it professionally. but he felt no need to put sugar icing on it and proclaim to the supporters that he’d give his left nut for the team. we know that most of the players would sell their services to a higher bidding but they fake loyalty. I’ve changed jobs in my life.

Refereeing standards were pretty poor all round yesterday, WBA v Brighton was farcical and the French guy who took the Wales v England RU six nations was so biased towards Wales I swear he and his fellow officials must have been wearing red underpants. Let’s hope for something better today.

    • PompeyYid says:

TQ, spot on I was ranting and raving at the TV, watching Wales v England, shouting no end of blasphemous words at that idiot called a ref. COYS

  • TQ2Spurs says:

It’s really annoying when our ladies are scheduled to play at or around the same time as our lads, I like to follow both.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

What’s happened to Joe Rodon? He’s not even on the bench again.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Blimey…..is everyone outside enjoying the sunshine? So quiet again pre-match.

Must win game now, the gooners will be above us in the league if they maintain their lead against Leicester.

  • Geofspurs says:

TQ …. I’ll watch us beat Burnley and then watch the women in the morning.

As for this one …. we seem to have put out a strong attacking team with a pretty good defence. I might have to go for a 3-0 result! For some reason I’m a bit more optimistic about this game.

PY …. As you say, with Arsenal looking like they’ll get 3 points we really need to do the same.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Geof…..I’ll keep an eye on the womens game on a second screen. Could be a tough one as Everton are probably the next best side after the big 4 currently. Would be a good statement of intent if we coud pull off a result against them.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I agree, a good attacking line-up, let’s hope the attacking 4 can express themselves and play to their stengths rather than play as makeshift defenders. :- )

  • TK says:

    3 x 0 now that’s more like it for the first 45.

  • Geofspurs says:

Not much to complain about so far. Sanchez is having a good game. We’ve fired some brilliant long balls forward, and could have added to the score. Let’s hope they keep it going in the second half.

  • wentworth says:

Excellent first half. Should be 3 points with clean sheet and improved goal difference.

  • TK says:

    welcome home Gareth.

  • 123spurs says:

So kane plays a pointless extra 30 minutes, very poor man management. Great win, clean sheet to follow.

  • TK says:

I’ll accept this result, thank you very much.

  • jod says:

Well that was easy, I didn’t see it coming. Whatever Dyche’s original game plan was it was destroyed by two early goals. Obviously the focus will be on Bale but I’ve got to give Sanchez a mention, maybe his best performance in a Spurs shirt. Not sure about the substitutions, to me Son and Kane are the players you want to rest whenever you can. I can’t see Moura having a problem lasting 90 minutes, just switch him to the left when you bring on Ali for Son. Even Bale didn’t look tired. Though its taken longer than any of us expected for Bale to get match fit we are still in a few competitions and he can still make a difference to how the season pans out.
