Match Thread – Spurs Looking For A Royal Performance To Return A Maximum Points Haul

|

With a hard-fought, but very welcome, victory over Burnley in Monday evening’s Premier League clash, Tottenham Hotspur turn their eyes to Group J of this years Europa League campaign and next up is Royal Antwerp.

With one game played in the group, it’s first vs second on Thursday evening and the aim for manager Jose Mourinho’s boys will be to make it six points from an available six and begin building up a buffer zone on the three sides below us.

There will inevitably be changes to the starting line-up once again, but on an injury front there are doubts about Serge Aurier, Steven Bergwijn and Japhet Tanganga remains out with no return date listed by PhysioRoom.com.

Whether or not either of the first two come back into JM’s thoughts remains to be seen, but we certainly shouldn’t struggle to put out a squad that leaves us confident of yet another three points.

Then, it’s down to how they perform.

Royal Antwerp...

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

jod…good points there regards changing the midfield, thinking about it you are probably correct there, Deli n LoCelso to similar, thus playing one out of positions affects the other and as for Winks agreed he is no Hoj, thus not a def M, so not a replacement. COYS

    Jod, PY, TQ
    All good points there.
Hence the reason we signed Hoj. Winks does frustrate me there were a couple of times the forward ball was on and he did his usual side ways and back wards. Again there were a couple of times he passed to Regulon and should’ve ran on to get the second ball but he dropped back leaving Reg isolated.
But as you say that’s perhaps what he was told to do. I fell when he plays our build up is always slow.
May be just me focusing on him.
Dele maybe needs an arm round his shoulder as the kick up the A*se didn’t seem to work.
He should be able to play different formations.
Still think he has a lot to offer once he is back to form.

NiallD – of course we are better off than where we were this time last year but we are worse off than most of Poch’s reign. He constantly got us into the champions league without spending any money and having to change stadiums twice. One bad spell and he was fired despite not getting a chance to integrate N’Dombele and Le Celso due to injury when Levy finally did spend some money.

DonnyH….though you constantly say this, say that, that in you opinion are correct, others can do as you do twist things to suit their agenda, yours is the complete hatred of JM, fair enough its your opinion, but other’s will come back at you, as is their opinion, so basically its a merry go round, circles after circles and getting bleedin know where. COYS

Just seen Sean Connery has passed, 90 yrs old, RIP the best James Bond by far.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

PompeyYid. I don’t hate Mourinho, I just don’t think he is a very good manager anymore. I understand why some people support him because of his past record but what you have done in the past means nothing.

  • Niall D says:

PY 100% re Sean Connery. For me the greatest Bond.
BTW no merry go round here PY.
    I’ve now stopped.
I feel I’ve justified my position and thoughts re Spurs.
No need to go further. I don’t need the last word
But if we do get a decent league position and a trophy…..
Trust your missus is settled at home and you’re back into a routine.
To the rest of you good luck with the lock down.
We are 2 weeks into a fire break here, All pubs /restaurants closed but this is taking effect and the infection rate is now below 1.
    Roll on tomorrow.

Niall D – Not every player is comfortable playing in different positions. In Dele’s case he’s only ever been really impressive playing as a 10 off the main striker. In Wink’s case he was brilliant at the start of his career as a more progressive midfield player. Then Pochettino and Southgate started trying to turn him into a more defensive player and he’s been struggling ever since. Its not really the player’s fault if he’s being asked to do something that’s not natural to him, but at the same time you need players that fit the formation you are trying to play.

  • BelgianSpur says:

Niall – I also don’t think anyone here likes to see the team lose. But as you said yourself, when the team deserves to be called out, it should.

I don’t see this Antwerp defeat as the end of the world. I think we’ll still top the group when it’s all said and done. Nor should it detract from the good job Jose is doing this year.

But I will never accept players not giving their all, which is what we saw on Thursday. It was unacceptable.
