Match Thread – Spurs Looking For A Peppy Performance Against City

|

With another dull and pointless international break coming to an end for Tottenham Hotspur fans, the Premier League in particular now have to work out how to bubble the players again given the positive Covid tests we’ve seen from players coming out of their bubbles to line the pockets of the domestic authorities and of course, UEFA.

With the proper game back, if we can call it that, Spurs are set to host Pep Guardiola’s struggling Manchester City side this Saturday and everyone will be hoping for another White Hart Lane based three points to keep our positive start to the 2020/21 campaign going.

If results go our way in this weekends round of fixtures, we could even top the table!

Having paid little to no attention to football for the last couple of weeks, I’ve no idea where we are on injuries but that will become clear on Thursday or Friday when Jose Mourinho addresses the press but according to PhysioRoom we have five doubts with Erik Lamela, Tanguy Ndombele, Steven Bergwijn and Japhet Tanganga all set for late fitness tests for a possible Saturday return – but Matt Doherty is out as he’s self isolating.

We shall see who is fit and ready for battle.

Man City...

Win

Draw

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

    Hi Niall.
He was sent off in the 60th minute. So we had done well to keep them out for an hour before that. ………..

The only match so far this season that I didn’t predict a Spurs win was the Man United game. 🙂 I predicted a draw!

So maybe I should revise my City forecast.

    Spurs 0-0 City!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I think a scoring draw would be more likely HT. :- )

  • Niall D says:

    Cheers HT
I just feel we’re quietly getting somewhere eeking out results here and there when needed.
But hoping for a classic today. I just feel something.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

TQ, I initially put 4-4. But I want Hugo to keep a clean sheet. Maybe in remembrance of the great Ray Clemence. 🙂

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I’m about to say something that contradicts what I usually prefer to say and and then see. And, what a few Spurs fans would definitely not like to see today.

That is, I feel that Jose should err more on the side of caution vs City. Ironically, I think that our best way to beat them and possibly beat them quite comfortably, will be to concede possession for the most part and then hit them on the counter and/or with some well placed balls over the top.

Then, I feel that a high scoring Spurs win is on the cards… But who knows? Maybe Pep will park the bus and make that very difficult for us… 😉

But, Bale, Ndombele, Son and Kane on the swift counter attack, sounds like fun to me… LOL

  • Hot Tottingham says:

As we draw closer to the January TW. (Or EJ time as I call it). Will we sell ever Dele again in a Spurs shirt? Will he be gone, early in 21?

It’s like we have lost him already.

But then again, could today be the day that we see him return, fighting fit and on the comeback trail? I’d like that.

I have predicted what is a very obvious line-up for Jose today. But I’m also thinking that there might well be a lot of weary players in that eleven. Players that have only probably seen just 1 or 2 days back in training with Spurs, since all of their travels, trials and tribulations on International duty.

Will Jose surprise us and wrong-foot Pep? Or will it be all too predictable?

  • Hot Tottingham says:

*Will we ever see Dele again in a Spurs shirt?* Is what I meant…

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I’m not sure we will HT, short of an injury crisis, wish I weren’t saying that though. Sadly I don’t think his style of play fits Jose’s requirements so unless he can convert himself to fit in somewhere he could well be gone come January.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Here we go now, 1234……..

Lloris (C), Aurier, Alderweireld, Dier, Reguilon, Hojbjerg, Sissoko, Ndombele, Bergwijn, Son, Kane.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    SUBS:

Hart Davies Rodon Lo Celso Bale Lucas Vinicius

  • TQ2Spurs says:

A little surprised to see Bergwijn starting but I guess that’s down to the international commitments of Bale and Moura and also with Thursday in mind.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Villa’s defeat means the worst we can be is fifth after the weekend games.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

When, If, Jose puts Bale on the pitch… We’ll destroy them!

    Up the Spurs!

  • 123spurs says:

    Spurfect

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Well, Bale didn’t get on and so we didn’t destroy them. 😉 But hey, 2-0 is good enough for me..

Harry, I love you… You were fantastic!

    Up the Spurs!

  • Niall D says:

    Spurs 2 Manchester 0
Come on out all you nay sayers where are you now.
Yes we are on top of the league.
Told you earlier I had a feeling.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

You’ll get no complaints from me about the nature of the win, we did a thoroughly professional job on them. Hojbjerg was immense and our two centre backs as well. King Kane with two more assists!

  • wentworth says:

Strong performance today. Our best midfielder (attacker and defender) wins the game with a superb all round performance. Arise Sir Harry….already a legend and so much more to come. Impressed to day with the defence…plus the performances of Sissoko and Hojbjberg. Not pretty at times but a game plan that worked. We are top for a day.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Our whole defence was great. But Hojbjerg TQ, can’t be mentioned without his partner in crime today, Sissoko! They worked as a rock solid pair.

The whole team worked well as a rock solid unit…

And Hugo? He wasn’t really troubled…

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Sorry, did Ndombele a disservice in my excitement he got the first assist of course.
