Match Thread – Spurs Aim To Pick Up Where They Left Off As We Take A Trip To Palace

|

Well, this has been a different type of international window for fans of Tottenham Hotspur but finally we can turn our attentions back to the football that really matters – it’s Crystal Palace next up on Saturday in the early kick off slot.

Harry Kane continued his form for England and that can only serve us well following on from the summer nonsense, but there are definite concerns when it comes to Giovani Lo Celso and Christian Romero given all the shenanigans we’ve seen from Argentina.

Particularly as reports have already indicated that Lionel Scaloni intends to keep the duo for all three games, which brings in quarantine and further disruptions to our plans.

Otherwise, it should be a case of ‘as we were’ for gaffer Nuno Espirito Santo, as we will be looking to extend our three game winning streak and keep our noses ahead at the top of the Premier League table for as long as we can, and we should be confident of doing just that given Palace’s mixed start to the 2021/22 campaign.

All eyes to team news later in the week and hopefully there won’t be any disappointing surprises.

Palace...

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

Been really impressed with Emerson so far.

  • Andre says:

That was a very poor first half, skipp looking more and more like Winks, has Kane actually touched the ball. Honestly feels like I’m watching Mourinho 2.0.

  • Love totty says:

The determination is there but quality is sadly lacking. Is Ndombele worth the risk?

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

Defensive midfield is just not working. Dele is doing very little in attack again. We need an attacking midfielder on although not convinced that N’Dombele will sort things out. Also Gil in for Dele.

  • Andre says:

No more than what we deserve, disgusting football by Spurs… as poor as I have watched.

  • wentworth says:

Comedy of errors. What a shambles. Just shows our lack of depth and creativity. One shot on target. We got nothing and deserved nothing.
Desperately need that creative midfielder. Only N’Dombele fits the bill…will he ever come good again.
Winks just the same. Waste of space.Tanganga lost his head sadly and that cost us the game. But we were dreadful and shows how lacking we are after a few lucky games. Chelsea next week.

  • wentworth says:

Hmmmm. Palace buy a spare striker. AND, he scores of course!!!.

  • shroppie says:

Better put that game into room 101

  • TK says:

I’m sorry I set the alarm to get up to watch this match. Absolutely uninspiring in every way. Back to zero on goal difference for the season. Hope the price has now been paid for the “clandestine” players who smuggled themselves into Brazil.

Now we find out whether Espirito Santo is more than a hope. The air is out of all four tyres. Where’s the pump?

    • Andre says:

How do you start with Skipp, Winks and Hoj?
Ffs, I mean seriously, I’m honestly trying understand why Skipp is rated, he is another Winks for me. Ugly football with results is fine but were right back to ugly football with no results…

  • TQ2Spurs says:

The only positivity I can take from the game is the promise shown by Emerson. A disaster from the moment Lloris made the error which lead to Dier’s injury.

  • 123spurs says:

Pathetic, we got our spurs back, winks and Davies still on the books, no back up striker, no subs used. Chelsea arsenal next in-between a cup game, big test for Santo coming.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

You can see why I like Gallagher, he has everything we are missing, passion, midfield creativity, and a goal threat to add to that of the strikers.

  • 123spurs says:

If Santos set up to defensively, sadly will slide to mid table, the other teams will see right through this, if this continues sadly he won’t last the season. No out and out striker and let vinny go. Absolutely shocking and particia it’s on him

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

No No to Nuno after this dreadful team management performance. There may have been reason for this defensive team selection and to play defensively defensively in the first half but no reason to keep this going after Palace continued to have us on the run in the second half which led to Tanganga being sent off and Davies conceding that penalty. Surely attacking changes should have been made early in the second half to break the pattern (as Jenas pointed out in his commentary) and especially when we were 1 down with ten men and had nothing to lose by putting on N’Dombele, and/or Gil, players who potentially score or create openings singlehanded. Even Mourinho would have done this in such circumstances and that’s saying something. Doesn’t augur well for the rest of the season.

  • 123spurs says:

Totally agree Stan, what is the obsession with been so defensively. It def doesn’t work with the spurs players, and eventually you will concide goals.

  • jod says:

Stan Rosenthal – Right all down to Nuno. Nothing to do with three players depriving the club of their services, nothing to do with Son and Bergwijn being injured on international duty. Of course N’Dombele, who just wants to leave, or Gil who is 20 years old with almost zero minutes in the premier league, would have magically changed the game. I said when people were proclaiming anyone would be better than Jose that as soon as someone was appointed that would all change, seems I was right. I actually think Nuno has been doing a pretty good job, but he’s already being undermined. First there was Kane not coming back when he was supposed to, now we have players holidaying in Croatia after ignoring a ban on travel. Once players think the manager isn’t really in charge the club is in trouble. That may be where we are heading.

    • Stan Rosenthal says:

Not saying these subs would have magically changed the game. It’s when these players were not even given a chance to make a difference that worries me, even when there was a crying need to change the pattern of our play and when we had little to lose when we were I down.

  • 123spurs says:

Looks like we are going to struggle to score goals even worse then under jose.

  • TK says:

I agree with jod on some of this. 😜

the players who travelled without coordinating with the club did NES a real disservice. Injuries? what can you do? but causing and international scandal over breaking COVID restrictions? WTF? The whole incident spoke badly of the players, of Argentina and Colombia promoting the behavior, and of the Brazilian federal police and ANVISA (the national health authorities in Brazil) disrupting a match in progress when they could have acted before the match started. Horrible all around. And now the players coming back from Croatia? NES needs to put his stamp on the team. He was undermined.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph. I’m in agreement with jod! Of course, he’s not dumping on other VSers this time.

The new manager was undercut on this one. How he acts in the face of this will reveal who he is as Spur’s manager. He needs to be decisive here.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Thats right TK, and he also needs to tell Paratici and Hitchen to go sit in the director’s box and not behind him in the dugout.

  • wentworth says:

Well that was an utter disgrace. Picking Winks to play was a joke. Was this to hang out for a 0-0? We have been very fortunate in our first three games but it could not possibly last. Today showed our mid table credentials.
We are light years behind Man C., Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool etc who are now jockeying for top 4.
How is it lesser clubs (Palace) can buy a well proven reserve striker and a creative midfielder and we can’t. We have been banging on for a deputy for Kane for 5 seasons and a proper replacement for Eriksen. Did anyone see our creative midfield play today? Nope. Did anyone see any wing play? Nope. Kane did not have one touch in their box and no shots on goal.
A dismal performance which unfortunately is going to be the way of the season. Even our first three games were pretty grim. It seems we have a boring manager again and a very boring team/ squad of players.
