Match Thread – Palace At The Lane On A Lazy Sunday For Spurs

|

Tottenham Hotspur’s first team didn’t quite manage to reach the dizzy heights of Burnley as we limped over the line in our last clash with Fulham, but back to back victories for the first time since November certainly shouldn’t be sniffed at.

Manager Jose Mourinho has already confirmed he will again be rotating the pack ahead of the next run of fixtures the club has which again sees us on the Sunday/Thursday schedule but you’d like to hope we will persist with the front three of Sonny, Harry and Bale for obvious reasons.

Palace themselves will make the trip with boosted spirits as they are on a run of three without defeat, and this weekend they should be able to welcome back Wilfried Zaha after his five game spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

For us, the game still comes too early for Giovani Lo Celso but we may be able to welcome him back to the bench for the Europa game. Serge Aurier will likely face a late fitness test after his calf tightened up against Burnley, but otherwise we should be good to go.

Now we play the ‘which Spurs will turn up’ game…

Palace

Win

Draw

Lose

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

I totally forgot, on the upside with 42 points we should be safe from relegation, and, only 20 points behind Man C with a game in hand. Looking at the stars 😉

  • 123spurs says:

Is a plan in place from been 3rd biggest club in London to the 1st. Time to change the culture, mentality,to be ruthless, Chelsea, arsenal just laugh at us every season.

  • TK says:

Oh my god, Niall. Your post of 12:20 am was spot on. Now that’s an attitude I can buy into.

  • Geofspurs says:

123 …. To be honest I don’t think Arsenal have been laughing at us for quite a while. They certainly don’t have too much to laugh at now. I’m not sure that Chelsea have too much to laugh at either. City, on the other hand, are falling over themselves laughing at everybody!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

When I look at our potential starting 11 and subs bench. And then look at how bad Palace are. Then it’s a match that we should be winning quite comfortably.

    But who knows?

  • Geofspurs says:

HT …. How’s it going? I agree. It should be another ‘Burnley’ result on paper. I just hope it is on grass, too!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I admire your optimism guys and my heart hopes you are right, my head tells me Palace just frustrated United and Fulham with their well organised defence and prior to that mugged Brighton at the Amex. We are at home, which isn’t the advantage it should be without supporters, but they have their talisman back who is shown to improve their points gained when he plays. We are going to need a good defensive performance ourselves while also needing some guile in attack to break down Woys defensive wall.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

The West Brom v Newcastle game isn’t listed in the schedules by Sky, BT, or the BBC for live broadcast, does this reflect their expectation of how bad the football will be? lol

  • PompeyYid says:

Well its match day, v the Eagles let the Cockerels Spur them with a good win for us.

Just read an interview Reggie had, asking him why Spurs defence has become so tight lately, conceding 2 goals in 5 matches, his response was quote “I am back” haha only joking he went on to say. COYS

  • jod says:

TQ2Spurs – That’s because its on Amazon Prime. Any premier league game this season will be on somewhere, its just the number of media outlets showing football seems to be increasing.

  • Geofspurs says:

Does the UK have access to a media outlet that shows all PL games. In Australia I subscribe to Optus Sport which shows every PL match plus EL, CL, and WSL games. All matches can be viewed live or on demand at a later date when they are completed so there is no reason to miss anything. It costs $15 per month (10 pounds?) which is pretty awesome.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

You’re lucky Geof, the majority here live in rip off Britain! In the current situation you can’t get everything in one place here as such, you can get both BT and Sky together through single providers and the few on BBC are available for free anyway. I’m not sure you can subscribe to Amazon through one of the single providers but at the end of the day you are effectively paying separate subscriptions for all but the BBC which you pay your annual fee for. I think a package to get everything you get for £10 there would be something like £60-£80 per month without allowing for the BBC licence fee.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I should have added……..we currently get the WSL for free through the FA Player except games that are selected by BT for live broadcast on thier platform. The BBC shows some of these fixtures as well which are of course free within the licence fee.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Geof…….the WSL game v Brighton should be pretty good today, I think the teams are fairly well matched.

    • Geofspurs says:

TQ …. Thanks for the info. I’m swinging between Pool v Fulham and Spurs v Brighton at the moment. I’ll watch Spurs v Palace when I wake up in the morning. Fulham leading at HT!

  • Niall D says:

As you say TQ. Rip off Britain TV Licence, Sky, BT as you say, must be over £80 per month. I broke I’d down fot just football I’m paying £28 per month, and aparrently I’m getting a good deal.
I believe there are streaming boxes to buy, where you pay for a “loaded stick” and you get it all, I don’t have the balls.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Hi Niall, yes I’m aware of the devices you mention. :- )

  • Allan says:

I have just read the BBC article on Levy’s coming up 20 year chairmanship of the club .

A resounding success and long may it last !!

    • Geofspurs says:

Allan …. That was a very interesting article. I don’t think there is another chairman in the PL with as much passion for their club than Levy. There’s no denying that, despite any criticism fans might throw his way.

  • Niall D says:

Tongue firmly in cheek there Alan (I hope), yep all those trophies in those 20 years.

    • PompeyYid says:

Niall, your obviously a Levy hater, but you have to ask your self how many semi-finals or even Finals we have reached and have effed em up, there is a number, you cannot always blame Levy for everything.

On a different note, I hope all is well with you and your kin. COYS

  • Hot Tottingham says:

There was a time, not so long ago, when there were no (or next to no) live domestic matches to view. And even the Big Match and Match of the Day, only ever featured just the one main game. And if you were at WHL or another stadium, that’s when you would then know that it was to be the match of choice for either ITV or BBC, because their mobile studio lorry was there, sitting outside the ground.

And the only way to watch Spurs regularly, (or any team of your team of choice) was to go to the ground and pay your money direct to the club. Or have a season ticket.

My love for football doesn’t stretch to me watching very many matches other than Spurs. I need the bias and the love of Spurs to get me excited enough to watch. Any other match that doesn’t feature THFC , just doesn’t do it for me. And so I have never paid a subscription to watch football and never will.

I also don ‘t know why those that do pay subscriptions, will complain about the costs. As it is a choice. If you can afford it and you watch a ton of sport, why not pay? The outlay is not excessive to me, if you are watching a lot of stuff. Certainly not relative to actually watching several games a week at a stadium. Or even just 1 a week… Or the cost of a cinema ticket every week, or big band concerts etc. Or even just a night out in a pub with some football thrown in… … But if you can’t afford it and only want to watch very little sport (like me) then you simply don’t have to pay. (like me)…

And if you don’t like footballers extreme high earnings or crazy transfer fees or match day ticket prices. Well, it’s all those subscriptions to Sky etc., that is responsible for all that.

And if I can’t watch for free myself, for any reason., then I’m content to listen to it on the radio. And if the match is a bore or I can’t stand the commentary.. . I listen with the volume turned down…. LOL!

  • 123spurs says:

Yes Geoff, arsenal trophy cabinet is laughing at ours. We have nothing to show for been above and better then arsenal over the last few years

Last team liverpool beat at home is……

    • Geofspurs says:

As you say …. we have been better than Arsenal for a few years, and yet you seem to think that in ‘local derby terms’ it doesn’t matter. I disagree.
