Match Thread – Nuno Returns To The Wolves As Spurs Look To Banish Midweek Demons

|

Tottenham Hotspur started the new 2021/22 season with an unexpected, but very welcome, victory over Manchester City as we hosted them at White Hart Lane, and on Thursday evening we made the trip over to Pacos de Ferreira for our opening Europa Conference League clash.

Sadly, the less said about our all changed convincing 1-0 defeat is probably for the better as the only silver lining is at 1-0, a stronger squad can pull that back – dare I say our normal squad will pull that back.

Short of resting our better players (who surely at this stage of the season didn’t need resting) it’s woeful preparation for Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon. Spurs are still in a mini change, and undoubtedly Wolves and their new gaffer will be up for sticking one over Nuno as he returns for the first time, and if the Leicester opener is anything to go by, Wolves are now a more offensive outfit anyway in their style of play.

We’ll welcome back some familiar names at any rate, and we certainly won’t be as bad as that, and maybe we’ll even get to see Harry Kane make an appearance.

This one is difficult to call though.

Wolves...

Win

Draw

Lose

    Hi folks
I’ve also had a post which disappeared, however, it was much on the lines of the fact that we (myself included) probably need a bit more patience, many of us have said that it would take more than one TW to even start the fixing process. We have gotten a couple of players out and hopefully in the next week or so a few more will depart even on loan to get them off the wage bill.
Would like to see a bit more movement but can only hope that another two of “the not so magnificent 7” namely Sissoko and Aurier depart soon.
If N Dombers wants out, so be it, he obviously hasn’t the appetite for the rigours of English football
Get a few quid or a decent swap and let’s get him out.
Both he and Kane to a degree are unwanted and unplanned for moves, so they have probably upset the Transfer time table to an extent, so we may have to hold on to a few “unwelcome” players for a while more.
Re tomorrow I see a good result, I can’t see how tomorrow’s team can be affected by Thursdays result as they weren’t involved in that game COYS.

Let’s see how the players react after the city result,

  • Geofspurs says:

Just watched the City game again to put me in the right mood for Wolves. We were absolutely brilliant against City, so good.

    Today …. 0-3 anyone?

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I’m thinking that it should be the same line-up today, that played City. And definitely not the one that played against Pacos.

    Bruno Wanderers 0-4 Nuno Hotspur!

  • TK says:

If anyone should be ready to manage vs. Wolves, it’s our Holy Spirit. 1,2, and genuflect 3, father, son, and Espirito Santo. In the spirit of Sun Tzu, know thy enemy as one knows one’s self. We’ve go the right spirit for this one.

  • Geofspurs says:

it’s the same team as last Sunday. Kane’s on the bench.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

It is the same line-up as last week… Mr. Kane is on the bench..

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    Spooky! lol

  • Geofspurs says:

    Remember Kane?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

He looked very relaxed on arrival at Molyneux.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

If Traore had an end product he would be priceless.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Well, Wolves made that real tough for us. But we stood firm… And we won it.

    Welcome to Spurs, Harry Kane!

  • Geofspurs says:

That was too exciting …. for all the wrong reasons! A win is a win is a win.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Knew we were in for tough game after watching Wolves at Leicester last weekend. We rode our luck a bit at times and were fortunate to get awaywith some sloppy passes in dangerous positions, very noticably 2 from Lucas who I thought had a poor game.

Anyway, unbeaten with the prospect of the gooners being in 19th place later. What’s not to like. :- )

  • 62rovinella says:

Scary game….heart pumping but we got the three points …yes levy,we saw you watching.
The side still needs a bit of tweeking..
We need an outright striker when kane’s not playing….coys🥂🥂🥂

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I wonder if Traore was trying to impress Levy and Paratici? He is a definite upgrade on Bergwijn, if he could be coached into making better decisions when he gets to the opposition box he would be even more frightening than he is now!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

No thank you to Traore. Bergwijn is the better player for sure, IMO.

We don’t need Traore. But Wolves could do with Bergwijn. 😉 Or even better for them, Kane! Can they afford the £150m I wonder?

  • Niall D says:

Decent result against a tough team, 3 points are 3 points, Leicester got a bag full of those wins through penalties last season and Man U the season before to put them (falsely) in the top 5, so I’ll take 1 or 2 wins by pens this season, the juries’ still out on Nuno, but it’s still early in his management process and the results (league wise) are going our way.
Plus we still really haven’t got all of our new signings in yet.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

HT……I’ve said a number of times that Traore is exciting to watch but has no end product, that was very much in evidence again today. One thing he did do today though was to engage at least 2 or 3 defenders leaving other players unmarked at times.

  • Geofspurs says:

Then again, we did keep our defensive shape and put bodies on the line a’ la Dawson style. Dele must have felt the pressure but took the penalty really well. Thumbs up for that. We’re just 34 points away from our first target.
