Match Thread – Mourinho Rocks Up At The Bridge – Let’s Hope Spurs Have More To Shout About

|

After mixed disappointment in the midweek Champions League clash against RB Leipzig, Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to take our second half improved performance into this weekend’s trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.

1 of 10

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

Recent Premier League form is on our side, with three wins on the spin going into Wednesday evening, and Chelsea’s form is mixed with only one win, but two draws, in their last five.

Given we aren’t sure which Spurs side will turn up until the first whistle goes, this is certainly going to be a tough one and our injury issues will be another test for the players with some key names missing as we know.

But it’s another 90 minutes of football and we still know what we can do well when we play as we know we are capable, and the players shouldn’t need much lifting for this one in any event – the travelling fans certainly won’t, so let’s hope they have something to shout about.

Chelsea...

Win

Lose

Draw

I expect more of the same, a low block with 9 men behind the ball ready to break. I see Chelsea do
    dominating.

  • El Jefe says:

Looking forward to it, not looking forward to it – expectant on the one hand having closed the gap to 1 point but with losing both HK10 and Sonny and the way we lost to them in December means apprehensive about this one. I guess if they come at us which they will do that will create space for the counter-attack with probably Lucas and Bergs especially but also Dele looking to capitalise – a draw would not be a bad result at all – we’ll need some resolute defending though but hopefully we can hold up – after all we’ve worked really hard to get to this position from November and the set backs in December so hopefully we could maybe even nick it but I’d take a draw and keep in the fight for CL for as long as possible and hope come May we can cross the line fully!

  • Allan says:

Not convinced by this one . Unless he can play both Lamela and the unfit ( for how long now ?? ) French guy we will as usual be overwhelmed in mid field .
However brilliant Lo Celso and Winks are in the middle of the park they just get over run !!
If Ali plays and is substituted let’s not have a repeat of his childish reaction as on Wednesday please .
He is a role model to younger people and his reaction was an action criticism of the decision .
About time the guy began taking his responsibilities seriously and started maturing into a person my grandson can look up to !!

    • TQ2Spurs says:

Allan….in his defence I believe the ‘childish action’ was more about frustration than dissent over being subbed. You do have a point though as people looking on maybe won’t be able to make the distinction between the two wholly different scenarios.

These players have such a weak mentality, fans humiliated again. To date is to do is a load of bollocks.

  • 123spurs says:

Cheleas will be up for this more then us, just like in the last match. Can’t see us getting anything from this. Prove me wrong.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

The student outwitted the master last time out, hoping for a different outcome this time round. I am inclined to consider a draw would be a pretty decent result away from home but a win would be a real bonus.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Expecting more negative boring bus parking from Jose. Inevitable mistakes to concede goals and then Jose to blame everyone and everything other than his Stone Age tactics. Get out of my club Jose

  • jod says:

Two teams struggling to score goals. No idea how it will work out.

  • PompeyYid says:

I think we can pull it off, just hope that the normality of “bottling it/not performing/disappearing when games are big/important”, does not appear, we’ve been doing this for years.

So if all being right “a win for me”

If a defeat, Vital will be inundated with the usual negatives, look forward to it lol! COYS

Bit sad this Danny……..15 minutes from kick-off and only 10 comments on the match thread.

    • Danny Winter says:

In fairness TQ2 I was massively late posting the thread, so we lost the normal 1-3 day build up – but yes, frustrating not knowing who can view/post and then when different folks can read. I’ll soldier on, and hope others do as well.

  • 123spurs says:

    Game over

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Negative handing the initiative to a team low on confidence. Another Jose masterclass. Nothing will ever change under Jose. Get him out now.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Every opposition manager has worked out that we cannot deal with a high press. There were three defenders plus Lloris between Giroud and the goal when he shot and scored at the near post. Seeing Toby’s poor performance in the first half you have to question why we gave him a new contract. Still, despite the poor showing so far, we are still in the game however unlikely a turn around looks.

    • 123spurs says:

      Ole
      Kloop
      Lampard
      Arteta next to defeat spurs

Shocking defense, never look like keeping a clean sheet, and Jose is ment to be a defense coach.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

One team is playing with high energy and knows what they are doing. One team looks uninterested and has no idea what they are supposed to be doing. This performance has nothing to do with a lack of strikers and everything to do with a manager who has done nothing but send out negative vibes and who simply has no clue how to set the team up. Jose out now.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

In a spirit of being kind, as we have been encouraged, things haven’t really gone our way today.

  • wentworth says:

Diabolical . Absolute rubbish. We have been out played, out classed and out muscled for the second time this week. Our attack is impotent, our midfield wimpish and dismal, our defence ageing and struggling. We have missed out on signings such as Barkley, Willian and Jack Grealish because of scrooge Levy and his lack of investment so we end up with Mr Tippy Tappy Winks and a load of misfits who struggle to do anything positive. No excuses. We were never in the game. Absolute shambles and totally embarrassing. I do not rate Jose. A good box office clown. But not someone who can play the Spurs way. We used to dominate games…now we chase them and start trying late in the second half when the game is over. Very disappointing.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

An absolutely pathetic performance that was 100% down to Jose and his negativity and nothing to do with our lack of strikers. Negative in the media all week and negative in the way he set the team up. Chelsea were in such a shocking run of form and yet he sits back and allows Chelsea to play themselves back into form. Did he not anticipate the high press from Chelsea. Why didn’t he fill the midfield up and try to match them instead of everyone funnelling back into defence. We stuck with five defenders throughout the match, Davies didn’t even go forward when we were two nil down. Nothing will change with Jose, nothing will change when he has a fully fit squad. The man will never change his mentality- he is too arrogant and stuck in the past. We need him out of the club now.

  • PompeyYid says:

Am very angry, but excuse after excuse, sorry they just do not work, these players should be ashamed of themselves.

Today as has been for a while…

No movement off the ball looking for a pass
Cannot pass a ball esp under pressure
    Cannot tackle
    Do not win 50/50’s
    No fight/ no battle
Opposition always seem to want the ball more, thus not raising our game.

For me any positives I took from Wednesday’s game has gone out of the window, some will blame JM, but for me its the players themselves that are at fault for the situation we find ourselves in, and that’s over the last 14 months overall.

I hope I am proved wrong but for me our season is over now in more ways than one. Rant over. COYS

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

Jose’s results against the big teams, Chelsea lost and outplayed twice, Liverpool lost, only attempted to attack in the last fifteen minutes, Man U lost, City a fluky win but completely outplayed, Leipzig lost and completely outplayed. Tactics pretty much the same in every game and the results pretty much the same. A lot of these games against novice managers who have out coached him every time. There will be more of the same next week against Wolves, another team with a young progressive coach. JOSE OUT OUT OUT

  • PompeyYid says:

Some say about “playing the Tottenham way”, fair enough but we have only had that in a 3 year period and that stopped 14/15 months ago, out of how many years, unless you get a Klopp type manager and money spent, it! in my opinion will not happen.

Though I am always optimistic, that is beginning to wain, sorry.

    But still COYS

  • PompeyYid says:

DH….though to a degree, I am beginning to be in agreement with you there, as your points are quite valid, but can we not give JM some lee-way and wait until he has had a full off-season with us, after all this is the first time he has taken the reigns of a team during a season, just a question.
