Match Thread – Late January Deals Should Leave Spurs Peppy For Guardiola Test

|

Having kept our hat in the FA Cup with a 1-1 draw with Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium last weekend, Tottenham Hotspur fans could be forgiven for not looking too far ahead to our next fixture, given we welcome Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side to White Hart Lane.

Pep’s not having a great season by his own standards – those in glass houses and all that when you look at our form this year – but we all know it’s still going to be an incredibly difficult game and although our late January transfer window dealings should give rise to renewed optimism and some freshness around the training camp, we can’t expect too much to soon as players will need time to continue bedding in.

With Gedson Fernandez already with us and growing his game time, Giovani Lo Celso’s capture on a permanent deal is a definite boost given the quality we’ve begun seeing from him in recent matches and as I type, we can still expect a few more departures and there continues to be heavy speculation about at least one more arrival in the shape of Steven Bergwijn and he might not be the only one.

For this weekend at least, anyone else new through the door can probably only be expected to take a place on the bench, so manager Jose Mourinho will most likely go with his regular selections here, but at least we’ve actually done some business again – because we all knew we had to.
