Match Thread – Have Faith, Spurs Will Spark Against Brentford

|

With Sunday’s entertainment squashed for Tottenham Hotspur fans with our trip to Burnley postponed shortly ahead of kick off following heavy Storm Arwen snow (no jokes about similar shots on target), Antonio Conte is now looking to Thursday’s Premier League clash with Brentford.

Burnley may have been a double edged sword coming so quickly after the pathetic performance and defeat to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League, so even with confidence issues in the camp, Brentford is the easier clash on paper to bounce back in, but sitting in 12th place in the table, this won’t be a walkover either.

Given our performances so far in 2021/22, Conte definitely now knows the challenge he faces at White Hart Lane but bizarrely we remain firmly lodged in the battle for the European slots once again, so if we can sort out this soft underbelly that’s developed and get some confidence flowing in attack, we can quickly turn the current atmosphere around and start moving forward.

The question as always is, will we do that though or will the wheels really fall off?

As a side note to last nights team only 3 players who played were bought recently . Even when Conte brought the subs on Winks was preferred to Ndomdele ( our most expensive buy !! ) Of the 3 only Hoj has played consisyently well , although some of his passing has been poor ) Reggie can’t consistently make an effective cross and Emerson !!! A younger donkey than Dempsey which brings me onto the situation where in the past 5 TW the club has bought or borrowed 18 players !! Please check someone .
How many have been even a part success ? Dempsey ,Lo Celso , Dembele and Sess just to name 4 . What was Viniicius all about ?
The direction of the playing side of the club has been rudderless and clueless with millions wasted on sacking managers on a regular basis and spending good money on players who simply are not up to it .
If some of those wasted millions had been invested wisely and coupled with a clear vision of where the playing side of the club would like to be heading then we would not have witnessed the dross we have had to endure over the past couple of seasons . While Kane has been heavily criticised ref his transfer wish he must be given sympathy when he saw Nuno appointed and how Nuno was to achieve success .
HO HO HO what a Levy disaster .

Allan – “If some of those wasted millions had been invested wisely”, but that’s the point isn’t it. Read the posts on this site, its “spend more money” with no thought on what the money is spent on. Spending money is an end in itself for many fans. To spend cash effectively you rely on your scouting system. Compare us (or most other clubs) to Liverpool with their computerised data analysis and its not surprising they spend their money better. But improving the scouting system is complex and boring, “spend more money” is much easier. So we end up spending £60m on N’Dombele.

Jod Surely that is where Levy has lost the plot . Building excellent training and stadium facilities is not the answer to building a good side .
An excellent scouting system ought to have been a priority which hopefully would have brought us success leading to providing funds to build better facilities for the players and fans .
You mention Liverpool . I presume , not having been to either ,that their training and stadium facilities aren’t as good as ours yet look at the success they have had ? Perhaps by not investing as heavily as us on the stadium and training facilities it has given them the necessary finance to buy excellent quality players ?

Allan – You seem to be comparing apples and pears. Without the stadium where does the money come from ? How do you build a team when you only have the income from a 35,000 stadium to work with ? I know many on this site are big believers in spending imaginary money but the club can only spend real cash. Liverpool have been able to upgrade their existing stadium to a comparable capacity to ours fairly cheaply, we never had that option. Of course in terms of generating cash ours generates a lot more. What they have got right is their computer driven data analysis which means they spend their money better than anyone else. If Levy’s lot the plot so has every other manager in the premier league as no one has so far been able to reproduce what Liverpool do. But hey, I get it. Its all complicated, “Levy’s lost the plot” is much easier.

Interesting report today Jod stating that Conte wishes to take over all transfers so presumably Steve Hitchen will be sidelined .Apparently he was the most senior member of the recruitment team between 2019 and 2020 which saw Ndombele , Bergwijn , Jack Clarke, Sess and Lo Celso being signed for a combined total of over £ 150m .
He apparently is a fairly close ally of Levy .
I still think that the transfer policy has been pathetic with Levy overseeing the enormous amount of wasted money just in the past 18 months . This added to the millions paid in compensation to the poor choice in managers . Yet he cries poverty and does not accept that he has overseen a disasterous period of very poor transfer dealings .
This situation would have still occurred even if we were still playing at the old ground .
