Match Thread – Group G Is There For The Taking But Can Spurs Push The Battle To The Final Game

|

Tottenham Hotspur got new gaffer Antonio Conte’s reign properly up and running on Sunday afternoon as we fought back from a goal behind to take a 2-1 victory over Leeds United at White Hart Lane to pick up his first Premier League win, and on Thursday evening he’ll be looking to make it three wins from four as we are back in Europa Conference League Group G action.

Spurs make the trip to NS Mura’s home ground, and having previously slipped up and handed Renne a three point advantage at the top of the Group table, victory over Mura and maybe Vitesse doing us a favour will blow the battle wide open again with us still to face Rennes in the final game at White Hart Lane.

We can no doubt expect some rotation from Conte for this one, but he will undoubtedly go strong given we can still win the group, and of course, with momentum comes greater form and we all know how much more improvement we need to make.

Performances might not yet be perfect under our new man, but results are twisting back in our favour and long may that continue with the festive fixture crush soon to be on the horizon.

No injuries please. Dodgy pitches in Eastern Europe is the last thing that the likes of Sessegnon, Lo Celso and other squad players need.

  • wentworth says:

Please no second string of strugglers. We only have one reasonable( not decent) team the rest are very poor.
So much to do to rebuild a good squad of players. Plenty need to move on.
On another topic….please Poch do not go to Man U. We shall welcome you home in the not to distant future. Man U deserve some months in the wilderness.

Can’t agree with all of that comment WW, whilst I do agree that we only have a decent to good 11 to 14 players, I wouldn’t want to see the likes of Sonny injured in a game like this or even see our first steam players over played against such opposition.
Then come March (yet again) we’re burnt out.
That’s not to say that we put a load of 18 year olds playing either.
I would like to see Sess, Doh, Winks, Dele, Bergs, get a run out, there should be enough in the tank to beat Moura.
It will give them a few mins on the clock and if they are in the shop window it will let prospective buyers see them playing competitively.

  • wentworth says:

Niall. You are probably right. However, its a great shame we can’t blood some decent youngsters. No one can be much worse than Winks and Doherty. Would give Dilan Markanday a go for a start. Surely there are others who could or should step up.

  • Niall D says:

100%WW from what I’ve seen of the young lad he looks a decent prospect, and, we can’t get on the first team by not playing, I even forgot about Gil at least he’s prepared to have an odd crack at goal form around the 18yrd box, BTW I wouldn’t be advocating such changes against Vitesse but I do think any team we would put out will beat this Mura lot, but perhaps Conte still needs to see his best 11 perform as he in reality doesn’t quite know all of the characters in his team.
Still looking for a bit of a clearout come January, 6 out 4 in. 😉

  • Allan says:

Let’s win it by half time then make team changes although I think even a half decent team would win comfortably .
I see that Levy is crying into his bottom up pint ref Covid . Are the directors taking a pay cut in line with the losses ?
Yet another one of the many reasons he is pushing why the team has achieved nothing under his chairmanship !!
Everything / everyone is wrong except him !!
Come on Pompey and Jod defend the guy .

    • PompeyYid says:

Ha ha Defend the guy, fcuk that word, bloke for me, anyway I digress I have no understanding why you think I defend Levy, I nor you have any understanding what goes on behind closed doors.

Most opinions are made because we read the media bullshit and believe it, don’t get me wrong blame has to start at the top, now take Poch the saint, for example, as far as I know he had something like £150m to spend, bought I think 4 players, think all of em are not 1st choice at the mo, N’Dombele one of em, LoCelso another, why didn’t he buy 2 ready made’s instead. Just one example, but DL always gets the blame.

Hiring Moaninio what a fcuk up, yes DL’s fault, hire Santos another knee jirk reaction, hire AC brilliant, well done DL

Check out Spurs prior to DL n ENIC taking charge and now!
I do agree mistakes have been made, but my suggestion is be careful what you wish for….COYS

      • BelgianSpur says:

You’re assuming MP had the final say on those transfers. Judging by MP’s rants at the time, that was far from reality.

  • 123spurs says:

Alfie devine is he injured ? Ment to be a great prospect.

  • Niall D says:

Ever have one of those days folks?
I thought today was Thursday and I rushed home to see the match only to realise it was only fekin Wednesday, so I rushed out to do the lotto, in my rush I didn’t do my normal numbers and just did a lucky dip, guess what 4 of my usual came up fekk😕
Ah well roll on Friday, I mean Thursday. 😉😁

  • Wentworth says:

Sessegnon off. 2 yellow cards .. pathetic. Who signs these no hopers. DL? Doherty, Gil awful. This players should be fighting for a first team place. Absolutely no chance. Where are our young players. They cannot be worse than this lot.
    .

  • Drdrums11 says:

Dele Ali is awful. He and NDombele are donkeys, so slow to the ball and absolutely no foot speed. Sanchez is so shaky in the back and can’t stay up on his feet. We’ve recruited painfully slow players like Gill. I’d prefer to have Lamela over him and we paid money + in that transaction. OnlySpurs could make the worst team in European competition look so good. So absolutely disappointing this game so far. Maybe Conte can provide some 2nd half magic w these horrendous players… We’ll see.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Utterly pitiful first half, never mind online fraud, this is onfield fraud. This lot should be prosecuted by trading standards for masquerading as professional footballers.

  • Allan says:

    Speechless !!!

  • Drdrums11 says:

This match goes into the books as one of the worst blunders in Spurs long history of ugly losses. I’m sick in my stomach!

  • Drdrums11 says:

Even if we had drawn the match we could of won the group on the final match. Now we may not make it out of the group.

  • wentworth says:

    Here is my match report.
Utter shambles. We were playing the bottom team in the Europa Pub League.
Humiliating, embarrassing and pathetic. An absolute disgrace. If you missed watching this game you were lucky.
Even when we brought on the big guns in desperation they still outfought and outplayed us.
What has happened to this once proud, footballing club? Players who have not got a clue…Doherty, Sessegnon, Gil…get rid now. No hopers. What has happened to the once superb Dele?..Totally anonymous. N’Dombele could not wait to be substituted. Sanchez all over the place.
We have to have a massive clearout. No ifs and buts.Doherty, Bergweijn, Lo Celso, N’Dombele, Davies, Dele (sadly, he will be a star elsewhere, Mourinho killed him off), Gil ( sorry but he’s useless).
Keep Levy out of any buys. No more bargain basement no hopers. No blue cross deals at the 11th hour. 3 or 4 top players, if they will come.
