Match Thread – Form Dictates An Easy Spurs Win As We Head To Villa

|

With Tottenham Hotspur pushing themselves up into fourth place in the Premier League table having secured three back to back wins with a fabulous 5-1 absolute hammering of Newcastle United last Sunday, fans are looking for four on the spin as we make the trip north this Saturday to West Midland’s side Aston Villa.

We head to Steven Gerrard’s Villa Park based team whilst they are again in a patchy stretch of form as they match our three wins, with three straight defeats of their own, and Gerrard has been vocal after the limp defeat about replacing players over the summer unless they start stepping up – so this is the perfect time for Antonio Conte to take another three points as, from the outside, it looks like there is some dissent in the camp.

The injury situation at the club is pretty much as it was, but we could potentially see Ryan Sessegnon and Sergio Reguilon return to contention if they pass late fitness tests.

As ever, it’s in our hands. Villa do leak goals, so if we can keep their forward line quiet it should be another a win – but we can’t be complacent.

German striker Jurgen Klinsmann spent two years at White Hart Lane in separate spells, but how many league goals did he contribute?

As my brother put it, these are the games that get supporters nervous because we have messed up so often in the past. I’m hoping that Conte really has instilled a more professional attitude into them because if we perform like we did in the second half against Newcastle we will win comfortably. In fact you could say the same thing about most of the games between now and the end of the season. But there’s always that nagging doubt if you are a Spurs supporter.

    jod – perfect summary.

    Morning folks
Hi Jod indeed you’re right, every game could be a banana skin.
However I did watch Villa about a fortnight ago and they looked like they were playing for a
0-0 draw even tho’ they were 1-0 down, they appeared to lack impetus, direction and incisiveness
Hope they are so poor against us.
    Waiting for HT’s prediction.

Hey all, not an easy game coming up, possible banana skin as has been said, mind none of our last 8 games are easy, all cup finals for us, but we can win em all!

Our leader Conte is most certainly trying to rid us of the name “Spursey” I am beginning to think he is succeeding in that.

So for our trip to the Midlands and Villa Park will result in a win…0-3

N’Dombele equalises for Lyon v the Spam Turds at the Council Park, you really couldn’t make it up lol! happy days. COYS

  • Geofspurs says:

We should slide to a 0-3 result on this banana skin!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Aston Villa 1-4 Tottenham Hotspur!

  • block 108 spurs says:

Yes I agree we are a bit nervous nellies about spurs players relapsing to a spursy performance, with good reason based over this seasons games and many seasons before… !

But we have to trust conte has had the shake up of players comfort zone as eric dier has mentioned. With hk10 on form and new guys / existing squad getting better we have a team with confidence now. So a 2-0 win (or more) spurs. also i am pleased the yellow card in games for romero has improved.. You are right block…..Conte is improving the self-belief in the players which is leading to increasing confidence in matches, even when we go behind we are seeing a belief that we can get back on level terms quickly.

  • Niall D says:

Agreed, it does seem that AC is starting just starting to create a strong mentality within our team.
However we do have (for me) two obvious issues.
1st we usually seem slow out of the blocks, and quite often seem to have to come from behind.
2nd we do seem to concede from very few chances, I think last week there was one shot on target and a goal.
Whilst it is indeed laudable, and noteworthy that we have come back into the game on many occasions and we have to our credit when needed played hard and scored in the 90th minute, when in other years we would’ve capitulated.
It is still a concern that we can concede at times from very little pressure and very few attempts from the opposition often nabs them a goal. (usually from a set piece)
Another more concerning issue is the old lack of depth in our squad, we are a yellow card and an Injury away from losing our impetus.
But hopefully it won’t happen this year, hopefully the predictions are right I’ll even take 1-0.

Arsenal are 1 down at present !!!

  • Geofspurs says:

United lost and Arsenal are two goals down with twenty three minutes to go!

  • Allan says:

    Arsenal now 2 down .
What a chance for us to make a statement by not being Spursy and put Villa to the sword and maintaining 4th spot .
Come on Conte kick a few buts !!

  • Allan says:

    2 ts even !!

  • 123spurs says:

Just go for it, let’s make a statement now.

Wow. What a result. Great, steely performance.
What a player Heung Ming Son. Great feet, both feet.
    Romero superb, classy performer.
We are now a tight unit. Roll on summer to get those new creative talents in.

  • jod says:

A much tougher test than Newcastle. Villa really went for it after being caught with a sucker punch at the start, credit to them for that. The fact we withstood the pressure in the first half was more important than the goals. We have the firepower, that’s pretty obvious. The opposition is struggling, its now ours to lose.

The real concern for me was the refereeing. I have this picture in my head of the referee talking to the Villa players, saying ” Lads, as long as you get the ball first you can do anything you want to the player afterwards, break his leg if you like.” We lost Doherty, it could have been worse. I really hope we don’t get him again. When there’s the almost inevitable snap of a players leg while the referee waves play on I want it to be another teams player not ours.

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Only 18 comments on a match thread, how sad.

    • Shroppie says:

      What a turn around
If we get 4th that I take a an achievement
We are looking good and scoring goals
