Match Thread – Conte Hoping To Come Out On Klopp As Spurs Head To Liverpool

|

After two bitterly disappointing results as we excited April, Tottenham Hotspur got themselves back in the groove with a good victory over Leicester City last weekend – but this coming Saturday we face a massive test against Jurgen Klopp’s in form Liverpool side.

Having conceded our small advantage in the battle for fourth place and an automatic Champions League spot, Saturday evening’s result could have a massive bearing on whether we will now jump ahead of our north London rivals or be left with major disappointment given the handful of game that now remain in the 2021/22 campaign.

Our upcoming encounter with them in the next midweek round of fixtures could still prove to be absolutely pivotal in deciding the final make up of the table.

Injury wise as our preparations continue, it’s pretty much a case of where we were with Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon likely out for this one and few would be expecting any good news there when the official injury update arrives in a few days.

A draw here wouldn’t be too bad a result at all.

Liverpool

Win

Draw

Lose

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

Another easy 3 points for spurs

  • Geofspurs says:

No-one in their right mind would predict an away win …. 0-3!

  • Niall D says:

Cheers Danny for yet another thread, dunno how you keep up chum.
Re Liverpool, yes, we can beat them, as they are the sort of team we can beat, they don’t park the bus and can be open to opportunity.
But they are a lucky team and (just like ManU) have this history which adds to Ref bias which has, a tenadncy to get em the odd dubious decision.
But if we are on all cylinders yes we can beat them.
No if and buts, but simple we need to win all of our next games.
Let the rest take care of them selves.
I’m sort of quoting here, but we’re in a race we didn’t expect to be in, we have a punchers chance, let’s grab it and see where it goes.
    COYS.

  • Geofspurs says:

ND …. I agree that Pool are the type of team we will be able to attack more. We just need to make the opportunities count..

  • PompeyYid says:

Regards the game at Arsefield v Pool, the word opportunities is used…

    Make opportunities count!
    Take any opportunities!

Does the word opportunities and Spurs go together? get thinking.

Me am going for a 1-2 win for us. COYS

  • block 108 spurs says:

Spurs have beaten city away and can beat Liverpool at anfield if the players believe they can and play with 100% effort and commitment from 1st minute to last. an early goal will inspire spurs and we can expect to be under pressure from pool especially 2nd half. Hopefully pool players are a bit tired after their game last night ! Conte will have worked our players to tactical shape in training 343 or 3421 to deal with pool wing backs and fwd players. Important we have our m/f track back and we expect counter attacks from defense / mf to fwd players harry sonny kulu.

So basically play Liverpool the way they play..with more effort. Score 2-1 or 3-1 hopefully spurs COYS 🙂

  • Geofspurs says:

An early goal would be nice but keeping Pool goal-less for the first thirty minutes would give us a real chance.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    LFC 1-3 THFC!

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

    Lads – it’s Tottenham.

    • PompeyYid says:

Hey Donny how’s it hanging? hope you and your kin are well!

Now then mate! give us optimists a break! you/we just never know and we might just be correct in our predictions.

      Here’s hoping!

The “Times are a Changin” slowly but surely! COYS

  • Geofspurs says:

DH ….Exactly, so we can win this.

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

PompeyYid – all good thank you. I hope is well with you and your family. There is being optimistic and there is being deluded. I think Leeds have a better chance of beating Arsenal than we have of beating Liverpool.

    • 123spurs says:

How many will put 50 quid on a spurs win. No jumping the Q

      • Hot Tottingham says:

How many would put 50 quid on Spurs losing to Liverpool?!

I’m neither rich nor foolish enough to gamble that sort of money on the result of a football match… But that has nothing to do with my beleif that Spurs can win it. Of course they can!

DH……… To be delusional is considered a seious mental disorder. It’s beleiving strongly in someting that is commonly known as not to be true.

And if I were to state that Spurs cannot beat Liverpool on Saturday, would that not itself be a lie?

Spurs will either win, lose or draw. I personally predicct a win. I am confident that Spurs can beat Liverpool. I’m confident that Spurs will finish in the top 4.

Call me upbeat, positive or an optimist. But don’t call me dulusional…. That would be a lie!

    • PompeyYid says:

Donny, thanks mate we are doing fine, though Mrs PY is still scared stiff of this bloody Covid.

Yep deluded sounds right, so just call me DPY, Deluded PompeyYid lol!

You have to be sometimes. COYS

  • Niall D says:

Question is who wudda put £50 on Real Madrid to win tonite even at 90 min.
As someone said football is, a fuuny old game.
And on that addage anything can happen.
It is, within the realms of possibility that we could achieve 3rd (though unlikely)
Similarly, we could crash and burn and end up 8th.
For me we try to win all of our games and see what comes at the end.

Re Jods incessant complaints about where’s the money coming from, here’s an offering, which doesn’t actually include Rodon, Sanches or Clarke
Which would add to the kitty.

  • 123spurs says:

Fair play to levy if get those transfer fees for these players.

  • wentworth says:

We should sell…….Winks, Lo Celso, N’Dombele, Gil, Rodon, Bergewijn,Emerson, Sanchez, Gollini. Let’s be honest easily forgotten and not missed. Surely we have some academy players that have more to offer than this mixed bag of no hopers.
Time to be ruthless even if we take a loss on players like N’Dombele..
We only need to sign 3 or 4 key players to add to the remaining squad So that’s 9 out and 4 in. Good business and come on you academy players show what you can do. Other clubs seem to have stars in the making.

  • PompeyYid says:

    ITK are writing summer sales…

    HW £20m
    ER £25m
    SB £25m
    GLC £30m
    TN £30m
    CCV £6m
    Total incoming £136m

Maybe add Rodon, Sanchez n Lucas to that tally!

So not a bad outgoing, thus who then to buy?

Do we need Quality over Quantity or visa versa, have a think/ponder all! COYS

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    PY

You have listed 9 players there, as possible summer sales. So the answer to your question is both. We would then need both quality and quantity.

    • PompeyYid says:

HT….Spot on answer there, 100% agreement from me, but we still have the same question…Who?

Will our incomings all depend on where we finish, ala CL or not?

I believe with this new ruling, 5 subs per game makes it even more important quantity and quality wise of players we buy!

With that ruling, say a regular 1st choice 3 to 5 defenders, thus 2 or 3 back ups per position, not straight away obviously but that is what we should aim for over a couple of TW’s.

So a 26 to 28 man squad, where 5 subs enable more regular playing time. COYS

  • DoncasterHotspur says:

HT – I would never describe you as delusional. I was just having a light hearted poke at PompeyYid. However, I do expect us to get soundly thrashed on Saturday. It is the mentality monsters against the mentality midgets. Of course I could be completely deluded in thinking we have no chance. This is what all these years of supporting Spurs does.
    Come on you Midgets.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I was also being lighthearted DH…

  • Geofspurs says:

There are lots of ways to upset current form before and during a game. A key player could get injured early in the game. A player could score an own goal. A player could get sent off. Two players could get sent off! The referee could make a vital bad call or VAR could get something drastically wrong. Covid could affect team selection before the game even starts. It’s football and anything can happen. Gotta love it!
