Match Thread – Can Spurs Do The Unlikely & Punish Pep Again

|

Following on from Wednesday’s barnstorming FA Cup classic with Everton, Tottenham Hotspur will be holding some small hope of getting back to winning ways on Saturday as we make the trip up to in form table toppers, Manchester City.

Having played so often on a Sunday this season, many fans will be questioning why we didn’t at least get an extra 24 hours off this time, as with extra time on top, it was hardly the best preparation for this one, but we’ll just have to get on with it.

Pep Guardiola has a few injury concerns of his own, with the main one for us being Gareth Bale again but whether we get a slice of luck with either Sergio Reguilon or Serge Aurier and an earlier than expected return for them, well, manager Jose Mourinho’s press conference today will answer those questions.

Despite our 2-0 victory back at the end of November, City are a changed side now, so I imagine I’m not alone in hoping we at least take a point here.

Arky – unfortunately our manger is anything but brave. COYS

Will somebody please tell me what we have gained by sacking MP and hiring Mourinho. We are less successful and now play football nobody wants to watch. Pochetino had no money to spend but reguarly finished in the top 4 and got us into a CL final. This season we will be lucky to scrape into the Europa league and will be lucky to keep all of our better players. When Mourinho leaves after his now customary 2 year tenure he will leave carnage as he has in all of his recent jobs.

  • Niall D says:

We got a result against them last time out, but currently they’re flying, I would’ve preferred a week or two more before this match came up, just to see we’re we starting to go on the “offensive foot” after the two performances I thought we were a bit.
But we’ll be back to 6 at the back long hopeful(less) balls up to Harry and Sonny to work miracles.
Even we win it’ll probably bore the t+TS off me.

We are going to be pissed with conceding 5 goals the other night, and will make MC pay, a win for me, ever the optimist. COYS

  • Allan says:

Haven’t got a clue how Mourinho will set up . To score 4 the other night but concede 5 was amazing but incredibly careless .
Will he adopt a similar style and hope the defence perform correctly under a strong press or will he revert to the defensive non football style seen recently ?
Man C can be lethal and it is frightening to think that if we give them chances we will be punished severly .
However , If you were Mourinho how would you set up ? Sorry to sit on the fence on this one !!

I think it’s very likely we will be playing smash and grab football, just hope we don’t get smashed!

9 back. 2 upfront. If we are lucky.

  • Geofspurs says:

This one s easy to predict as its a Manchester club …. 1 – 6! I am soooo happy living in my fantasy world. Who needs reality?!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I’ll have some of what you’re on Geof, it’s better than living in the real world! lol

  • TK says:

    Geof;;
here’s my fantasy world: The players went to DL and told him they were highly motivated to win if he’d sack JM if they really won in an impressive way. 1 x 6 it was, just as you said. And miracle of miracles–DL lives up to his word and sacks JM. HK10 named player-manager, with Ledley King as his assistant.

Oh well, while I’m at it, the world gives up oppression and exploitation, capitalism declares that the poor have more importance than the rich, Ireland unites, and the FA decides that all matches start with a penalty kick for Spurs when we play.

  • 123spurs says:

Geoff, seem like united recovered better then we did after the 1-6

  • Geofspurs says:

TK …. And here’s me thinking I was all alone. It appears that you live here too! All the pubs provide free drinks so we should catch up for a chat …. you know, about the bad old days!

  • Geofspurs says:

Maybe they should change Tottenham High Street to a Yellow Brick Road?

Oh, well, back to the tennis! Come on Osaka.

  • block 108 spurs says:

This will be a dfficult game as we all know. If jose keeps to his statements since everton game this week… We could see tactical shape with attacking intent. So away formation of 4321 with HK10 as the 1 sonny / dele / lamela as the 2… then the mf hoj. moussa / tanguy … back line aurier/ doherty/ tangana (rodon ) toby / dier davies (or tanganga). Subs as squad.

City have stirling on rightside so tanganga is faster than davies so jose has some choices to make… 🙂

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I see we are all over the back pages with the Jose/Bale saga, you can tell by the body language between them in the photos that all is not well.

  • Niall D says:

Just watched the Liverpool /Leicester game, very few chances in the first hour then it was a sort of frantic 30 mins or so.
When I saying luck, Leicester defo had a dodgy offside call given em for their 1st goal I bet if it was us it would’ve been disallowed, their second was a massive howler by the Liverpool keeper a total unforced error, now we never get luck like that, their last was fair enough but Liverpool are chasing the game by that time.
Wish that Traveller would lift the Curse on us….

  • Allan says:

    Lloris
    Tangi Sanchez Dier Davies
    Ndombele Hog
    Lamela Lucas Son
    Harry

    Defence ???

  • Spurfect One says:

Just seen the backline. Either this is a message to the board and Jose is sending the lambs to the slaughter to show how crap they are, or Jose legit believes this backline is good enough to stop one of the most rampant teams in Europe, if it’s the latter, then i fear for this managers job.

  • Stan Rosenthal says:

I agree Spurfect, that backline is more like an invitation to score.

  • Allan says:

Why guys I put Defence !!
Will I need my 4 man life raft ?
However we may be surprised .
