Match Thread – Can Spurs Burnley Arsenal To Fourth Place

|

With Tottenham Hotspur securing a great draw against Liverpool and then backing that up with a fantastic 3-0 victory over north London rivals Arsenal, we now end the campaign with Burnley and Norwich City.

In what has been a choppy season in terms of disappointments and at points a failure for the players to turn up as you’d expect them to given their quality – we are still on the cusp of earning a top four finish and really ending the 2021/22 campaign on a high and few would’ve thought that possible a few months ago.

So it’s Sean Dyche-less Burnley next and everyone on the planet knows we have the fire power to not only win, but also significantly improve our goal difference when attentions turn to the single point battle we are now in with Arsenal when it comes to the top four chase and on paper Mikel Arteta’s side do have a slightly more difficult run in – even if it’s only a sports washing Newcastle United and badly mismanaged Everton.

What will be will be.

Win

Draw

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

Looks like a second 3-0 win in a row and a hat-trick for our sonshine boy would be nice! Golden boot anyone?

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Tottenham Hotspur 5-0 Burnley!

  • PompeyYid says:

Hey all, v Burnley tomorrow, nice n early lol!

As Geof am going for a Sonny Hattrick, thus Golden Boot, and therefore beating the Salad boy of Pool.

Spurs 4-0 winners with Harry adding another.

People talk about the games as if the quality of the opposition was what mattered. At this stage its more about what the various teams have to fight for. So while Newcastle may be a much better team than Burnley their season is effectively over. Burnley though are fighting for survival. So we might end up with a much tougher test than Arsenal.

  • Geofspurs says:

jod …. I need to be clear about this …. I think you said that the quality of the opposition doesn’t matter? Now that is a really interesting spin on the game!

  • Geofspurs says:

Two great games to watch tonight. Spurs v Burnley (COYS) followed by the FA Cup final between Chelsea v City featuring Sam Kerr, the Aussie global super star. Can’t wait!

  • Niall D says:

    Re quality of the opposition
I would argue that Newcastle do have quite, a bit to play for, pride and intent for the future, there are a few players, with their future playing career in the balance and they need to impress to stay at the club, similarly the manager needs to impress the owners in order to get em to stup up cash to take them forward and also to prove that he is the man to take them there.
And again the Newcastle crowd won’t accept a lack lustre end of season home game, its just not in them.
Burnley, are indeed in a bit of a dog fight, but I do think, they lack the quality to take, anything for the game tomorrow
Hope HT’s prediction comes true, he’s been very near the mark on a few occasions this season
    COYS.

  • Geofspurs says:

Hi ND …. Totally agree. Newcastle players will each be playing for their future in a club that should be on a rapid rise in the PL. They will all be out to impress the new owners and what better way to do that than to take something from one of the top teams.

  • Niall D says:

Hi Geoff my thoughts exactly, they need to put a “marker” down for next season just to prove they’re in the mix but also going the right direction this season.
I do honestly think that (excepting our game, with them) Arsenal have been a rad lucky in a few of their last fixtures.
I do think that neither us or Arsenal are quite prepared for CL next season, I think of the two teams, we would make a better fist of it.

  • 123spurs says:

We should be buzzing now after the NLD. Nice 2-0 win for me

  • jod says:

I’ve heard so many people talking up end of season games over the years, usually its just talk. Once players have nothing left to play for they tend to switch off. The manager can tell the Newcastle players they are playing for their future with the club. But they may well take the view they are going to be replaced anyway as the oil money flows in. If you are in a relegation fight its a different story.

  • block 108 spurs says:

Jod… while you are entitled to your opinions… why so negative every time? I have not seen a post of yours extolling the efforts of spurs wining games? surely conte has turned around the players mindset to achieve the CL place fight which we were miles away from in November

Anyway… another bus parking team to deal with today, I agree we have the quality players to deal with this, and follow manager’s instructions (as when he was in italy conte knows all about defensive playing opposition) so a 2-0 win for spurs. With gooners dropping 2 or 3 points at newcastle
    COYS

  • Ekkaboy says:

I think what Jod is saying is that this may not be the easy game others are thinking it will be. They will be happy with a draw. I agree. 1-0 will do for me.

  • block 108 spurs says:

Ekkab.. fair point.. as we well know spurs have dropped points when expected to win.. and won when expected to lose.. 🙂 However I hope we are getting away from those spursy games to a top PL club wining / consistency

  • 123spurs says:

Job done 3 points. Over to Newcastle now. They should at least get a draw.

  • Love totty says:

Not good for the blood pressure but a win achieved. Thursday obviously took its toll on the team as there was little energy shown in the second half making then look good. Haway the lads!

  • 123spurs says:

LT Thursday we played against 10 men for 60 min and failed to score from 47min.

  • 123spurs says:

Looks like Everton will be safe before they le arse.

  • PompeyYid says:

Well that was nerve racking eh!

But what stood out a mile, was the time between games, for rest, they had 8 days we had 2, so for me well done the lads.

Which ever way you look at it, it was a win and pressure now on the Gooners up in Geordie land tomorrow night. Ahwah the lads. COYS

  • block 108 spurs says:

A 1-0 win for tired spurs players… well done lads. Lets hope all the points we threw away over last 10 games dont hurt us, if arsenal get some points from their games…

Levy has said that spurs will spend in Transfer Window, i await the details over the next 3 months. So next season we are set to be a PL top 4 team and a silverware wining team with conte as manager. COYS
