Match Thread – Another Day, Another Game – When Will This Maccabi Spurs Madness End

|

I’m beginning to think Tottenham Hotspur fixtures in the 2020/21 campaign are largely like buses…you wait ages for one, and then about 16 turn up in the space of two minutes. Taking victory over Chelsea in the EFL Cup via the penalty route only 30 seconds ago, it’s almost time for Thursday evening’s Europa League Qualifying Play-Offs clash with Maccabi Haifa.

We can expect changes again and manager Jose Mourinho certainly wouldn’t have wanted to introduce Harry Kane, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Lucas Moura in the last one as he would’ve wanted a full 90 minutes off for proper rotation – but needs must and at least we have three days between our next two clashes and then an international break where, and I say this politely, Gareth Southgate and other international managers can … I’m sure you can imagine.

Maccabi Haifa...

Win

Draw

Lose

Despite the taxing schedule, we simply cannot blow it now or take our foot off the pedal in the way we did first half against Chelsea as all this effort will have been for nought and at least October is far more sensible on a calendar front.

Make it count, enjoy the break, develop short term injuries and we’ll be ready to again.

Tottenham Hotspur's foundations lie in another sport, which one?

I have the feeling that we could be in for a rough n tough old night tonight, against Haifa…

Handballs, penalties, bruised ball-bags, broken noses, sending-offs! Players hobbling hastily up the tunnel mid match with soiled shorts around their ankles. Jose in a punch with the officials, the other lots boss, Dele? Bale celebrating a Spurs goal, then falling over himself in the stands and picking up a season-long injury! Hugo found drunk in charge of an orange, Day-Glo goalie kit!

    And… Spurs winning 1-0!

  • TQ2Spurs says:

I know nothing at all about Haifa HT so no idea what to expect. It will certainly be a spectacle if only half of what you predict actually happens! I’m just hoping I can find a stream that works for the full 90 minutes this time as I only got to see about 50% each of the previous two games.

  • Hot Tottingham says:

    Hugo
    Doherty Sanchez Toby Davies
    Winks Hojbjerg
    Lucas Lo Celso Dele
    Kane

  • Geofspurs says:

3 – 0! Why not? …. that was rhetorical, folks.

  • El Jefe says:

Morning all – pretty much touche HT – except I thought maybe Hart given Lloris played on Tuesday night – then again guess he didn’t have much to do and not exactly running around all over the place so perfectly reasonable that he could indeed start!

I had Toby and Davy reversed and then had Lo Celso more to the right, Dele in the no.10 role and Moura on the left with Kane obviously up front – but I guess during the game they’re always inter-changing anyway!

Strong enough side for sure and at home should make the result a certainty for us – certainly hope so anyway LOL!

ND – yes would be great to go a couple of goals up to the good early already and then rotate as best possible and necessary – let’s hope so indeed!

  • Hot Tottingham says:

I’ve put Dele in that line-up more out of wishful thinking, than in belief.

If he is in Jose’s plans for this season then surely he will at least be in the squad, if not starting. unfortunately I now believe that he may well be on his way out.

    Heeeeeeere’s hoping!

  • PompeyYid says:

This team we are playing has a player called Fani and a manager called Ben Dov ah! you couldn’t make it up.

Now then you lot who seem to know what is going on!…. I have just read a Loan deal for Carlos Vinicus is done n dusted, with a 45m euro buy out option, then I read another saying it was close to a deal, any one know the true facts. COYS

  • Hot Tottingham says:

PY. The deal is done. Vinicius is soon to be a Spurticus! FACT!

    NO, I’m Spurticus!

  • Geofspurs says:

PY …. The’true facts’ will be posted on the official THFC site at the appropriate time. Hope that helps. Until then don’t believe everything you read …. unless they’re my comments! : – )

  • Hot Tottingham says:

So Geof, you think I’m liar do you?!

  • Geofspurs says:

HT …. Really? Would I call you a liar? We posted at the same time but …. until the deal is officially acknowledged it is possible your information to PY was a mite premature, a little hopeful, or slightly desperate. Then again, I hope it wasn’t. : – )

  • PompeyYid says:

Answering my own question…..It is done n dusted and Carlos Vinicus is flying over for a medical. COYS

  • Hot Tottingham says:

Isn’t that wot I just wrote PY?

  • TQ2Spurs says:

    His is Carlos Decimus Vinicius
    Striker of the Hotspur Legions
    Provider of Assists
    Scorer of Goals
And he will defeat the foe whether home or away.

  • PompeyYid says:

Thanks lads for your replies, weird all your replies came up after my reply to myself, yet yours were wrote earlier.

By the way the done deal is everywhere. COYS

  • 123spurs says:

El J, your no.1 target, yet u never mentioned him only king

  • TQ2Spurs says:

Wouldn’t be too unhappy to see Calvert-Lewin playing ahead of HK10 in the 3 international games, he could definitely play the friendly and then the Denmark game and let Harry play in the Belgium game.

  • Niall D says:

Whey heeyy 123 that’s what I about EJ said in an earlier post.
    He denied all.
HT take it from me nothing worse than a bruised ball bag. I had the snip he may as well hit them with a hammer the Bas%ard.
This Hiafia team were managed by the current Watford manager last season.
Apparently they are set up to defend and only shipped around 10 goals last season.
They have several ex Championship and Bundas League players among their squad these are older players experienced but on the way down.
They could be hard enough to beat. 🙁

  • El Jefe says:

123 I did actually say it several times already 2-3 weeks ago possibly even in different threads also and pretty sure I did also before that indeed much earlier in the summer (but of course given his supposed price and our supposed limited resources apparently at the time – what was the point in going in deep about the guy) – I said he was the 1 I really wanted (in a short-list of target men with him top obviously, but then also the likes of Willian Jose, Weghorst and did also mention the likes of Edouard and Giroud [TQ brought him up at the time which I agreed was a decent shout if could be prised away from Chelskia] also, etc) but did not think we could afford the likely 60m Euros minimum it would cost to afford him – indeed Vieira said ages ago he had already indeed turned down an offer of 60m Euros from an un-named Prem club in January no less – so even at 60m Euros I was dubious he would be attainable!

I did though change and think that might be a bit different when they crashed out of the CL at the 1st attempt recently and then after reading an article in A Bola about 2 weeks ago about their finances for this season especially, etc and then thought that maybe, just maybe the same 60m Euros might then actually be enough to get him (assuming JJ was willing to let him go of course) but still never expected us to be in for him given that amount! TQ should be able to easily confirm this as I definitely remember we also talked about Tavares the RB (on TQ’s prompting indeed) and what I opined of him as we had been linked to him, etc as cover for Doherty with Aurier being constantly linked away!

So yes I did state clearly on here he was my ideal no.1 target but never honestly thought we could get him – not for the number’s I thought would be required and even now from the looks of things – it’s still only a loan deal and only next summer can we make it permanent if we want to (likely when we will be in a much better position financially for sure and luckily we get the chance to see if he’s worth it or not during the season most certainly)! Many in Portugal are questioning why a loan deal and that it should never have been allowed – my thinking on it is to get his likely high wages off the bill, get a loan fee of some sort (apparently 3m Euros) and hope he proves himself meaning a big pay day and profit on their original purchase of 17m Euros (£15m)! It was further mentioned today also obviously and I agree with the reasoning (to back them up on this deal with us) that they did indeed do the same with Raul Jimenez at Wolves and then got good money for him so perfect example of how they can and do operate for example!

And as for King – let me just say he’s apparently available for only £10m and is home-grown, lots of Prem experience, versatile, quick, got lots going for him – indeed he’s averaged around 10 goals a season for 5 season’s on the trot in the Prem now already – that’s a hell of a lot better than the likes of Lamela, Moura and probably even Bergs also eventually! I don’t want to be criticising our players particularly especially at the moment and going forwards even but the fact is he can play as a winger also but crucially as a no.10 and indeed even as a STR also – indeed all the pundits I’ve been reading have said he’d likely be a quality buy for us especially squad wise and especially for only £10m even £15m if that was to be the case – definitely a bargain at these kind of prices for sure and it does sound like it’s only going to be £10m – bloody bargain 100% especially when wages wise it could be as low as the £45K he’s currently on at Bournemouth which I’m sure is quite a bit below the actual Prem average!

He’s obviously not on the level of a Bale or a Sonny even a Dele, but I think he could easily put up a fight against our other 3 of Bergs, Moura and Lamela and I doubt we’d let any of the 3 go for only £10m especially considering they all cost £25m minimum plus are likely on considerably more than £45K a week (indeed I’ve read anywhere from £80K – [Moura] to £105K – [Lamela])! AND I’ll emphasize crucially he can do what they do on the wing (even if more directly worst case) and MORE importantly he’s a threat in the centre and up top also – be it as a no.10/2nd CF or as a lone STR even ………….!

Man Utd supposedly thought him worthy of a £20m bid last January for example – can’t be all that bad especially as a squad player just like Bergs, Moura and Lamela are for us already!

Fair play we’ve got Bale and likely Vinicius also – FCUKING BRILLIANT – but if not – JK would have been a great option for sure especially on a supposedly limited budget that we were supposed to have ……….!

  • El Jefe says:

Explanatory rant over and killed some spare time also LOL – looking fwd to the game as always do – have to admit fully expecting a win – not saying necessarily a fully comfortable 1 but hopefully it will indeed be so and we can even rest (and help to avoid injury, etc) the likes of HK10, Lo Celso, etc for Sunday obviously!

    COYS …………….!!!!!!!!!!
