Martin Jol says he was ‘very satisfied’ after the fabulous 2-0 win against Besiktas following goals from Hossam Ghaly and Dimitar Berbatov.
He told the official site after the game: ‘We are very satisfied with the three points. It was a great experience for us with such a fanatical crowd. We said beforehand that we had to enjoy it, that was the main thing, to get a result and fight for every yard. We started off well, controlled the first half – that is always important – but we couldn’t score more than one goal and that is always difficult against someone like Besiktas.’
‘Dimitar Berbatov then showed his extra quality, we scored the second goal at the right moment and then had three or four chances after that. Don’t forget that we had to re-organise in midfield because we lost Didier Zokora late with a fever, but Tom Huddlestone came in and had a very good game together with Jermaine Jenas. I thought Hossam Ghaly was excellent in the first half, the defence was excellent and we were too strong to concede goals. I was happy with the team performance.’
Adding: ‘If you go into Europe you would always say that a draw is a satisfactory result, Turkey is a strong league, the crowd was second to none – taking all that into account, we kept our heads cool and motivated to have a very good result.’
