Watford boss Javi Gracia says he is unsure whether Abdoulaye Doucoure will stay at Vicarage Road.

We have been linked with the Frenchman in recent weeks, along with Manchester United and Arsenal, and it appears that the player`s future is uncertain. The Hornets manager was quoted by the Evening Standard as saying:

“I don’t know, I don’t know what happens in the future, whether he will sign a new contract or stay with us a long time, I don’t know. I think he is very happy with the team, the supporters, the club, the city. I think he is very happy. I would like Doucoure to stay with us more time.’

I`m not sure whether we need another player like him to be honest with you. He is a box to box midfielder, and with players like Moussa Sissoko, Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele all in the squad, his game time would surely be limited.

You have to also consider the fact that he has only really had one decent season in the Premier League, and that until the mid-way point of last campaign he wasn`t even being selected in the first team squad.

Certainly you could say that since he has been given his opportunity to play, he has performed. Seven goals and three assists from central midfield is not something that should be easily dismissed, but personally I don`t think he would be worth the outlay, unless Poch decided to offload Sissoko in the summer.

What do you think? Would the Watford midfielder be a good signing?

  • I’d still like to find out why DL and Poch thought Sissoko was worth signing. Think he might be okay if playing in a different position or with a club playing a different style. He was in the EPL, so how could this club have been so far off when they signed him?

  • Not really needed as we have Dembele, Sissoko, Wanyama, what would be the point?! David that summer we sold Mason, Bentaleb, Carroll, Pritchard, so we needed to strengthen CM and we could attract much better seeing as we had finished 3rd and got CL – in came Sissoko and Wanyama. If Sissoko’s cameo yesterday is anything to go by, no wonder Dembele is having to play so well to stay in the team. French regular says quite a bit and we’d already tried to get him in the past from Toulouse – makes you wonder why we didn’t sign him around the time Newcastle did but there you go!

  • We have Dier, Wanyama, Dembele, Winks and Sissoko. We can also put Dele and / or Eriksen back in the central midfield space ahead of the “holder”. That is even more of an attractive proposition with their work-rate and their willingness to defend plus the form of Son, Lamela and Moura. If our Plan A was 4-2-3-1 and our Plan B is 3-4-3 then perhaps by next season we can introduce a Plan C 4-1-5 particularly with more withdrawn full-backs. That’s how Pep has walked the league. Why this would mean we need Doucoure, I’m unsure.

  • El Jefe, we opted for Paulinho instead of Sissoko. Sissoko was nearing the end of his contract and was available for around £1m in January, while Paulinho cost £17m. I do recall thinking Sissoko was the better option at the time. Didn’t think we’d ever buy him for £30m after a relatively unsuccessful time at Newcastle.

  • What we need is proper cover for Kane. Signing players for the sake of signing players makes no sense. This guy doesn’t play in a position where we are short and he’s not an upgrade on what we already have so why throw money away ?

  • I think we could do with a CM in the Carrick/Xabi Alonso mould, ie a passer who is defensively solid. Winks fits the type and has the potential, although injury has ruined his season so far.

  • I like this guy, would be a excellent addition to the squad as i assume this is Sissoko’s last season here.

  • The players already at Arsenal seem to lack the desire to play for Wenger much more for much longer…… Players expressing the desire to play for a club because of the managers shared nationality always seems like bull to me. Or at least a poor reason why until they’ve actually sat down with the manager in question and discussed the actual football side of things. Especially as managers don’t tend to stay around for very long anyway… Wenger is of course an exception to this.

  • Cheers Guyver, so we bollocked twice there – Paulinho now at Barca and we ended up paying £30m when was available for £1m and that was after we’d apparently offered £15m sometime earlier. Agree with Muttley 4-1-5 could be the way to go.
