It has been confirmed that Shaquile Coulthirst has returned to White Hart Lane, from his loan at Southend United.

20 year old Coulthirst hardly set the world alight at Southend, but equally, he didn`t really get a consistent run of games, with 14 starts and 11 from the bench, with only four goals to show for his efforts.

Was that due to his own form, the experience or quality ahead of him or was he used in a wider role, meaning that he wasn`t in a position to be prolific in front of goal? History has shown though that struggling on a loan, doesn`t make a player rubbish.

Interestingly Coulthirst scored a brace in the U21 game against Everton yesterday, which might indicate he knows where the goal is, but does he have the quality or polish to do so against better opposition, when paired with better players?

It is suggested by Southend manager Phil Brown, that Spurs were looking to either take a closer look at Shaq to extend his Spurs stay or to loan him out elsewhere. Though the idea that he might even be in brought into the first team squad contention might seem far fetched, would it be a major shock if we consider that Adebayor seems out of the first team picture and Soldado couldn`t hit a cows backside with a banjo?

If nothing else, this news gives me the opportunity to write a good headline, which makes me smile at least…
