In what seems like a rumour that has been recycled multiple times by the national press, it is being reported that we are seeking a deal for Bordeaux winger Malcom.

This time, Italian TV station Premium Sport (translated by TalkSport) is reporting that the Brazilian’s representative has flown to the UK to speak with us and Liverpool.

The agent is said to want to hear from both clubs before helping to decide his client’s next move.

The report’s reliability has already been questioned. The Liverpool Echo have dismissed the Reds’ link with the 21-year-old, and from our perspective, it does seem like the talk is very much coming from the player and those who represent him.

Malcom is certainly a talent. He scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in 38 games last season, but we have other priorities. Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha are believed to have been targeted by the club; both of which could play in the Brazilian’s preferred position on the right flank.

  • Worth talking to and about. Pretty sure that Zaha is not going to stay on the radar.
Martial should be available given Mourinho’s low opinion and the high interest in Alderweireld but we must never forget that we are dealing with Woodward and his 3 great fears: 1- fear of taking a risk. 2 fear of making a mistake (or a decision). and 3. fear of negotiating with Daniel Levy. Malcom could still be a possibility.

  • Zaha is way overpriced, Palace are in fantasy land, Martial is a good player, but unless he is involved in some deal for Alderwiereld I wouldn’t have thought Man Utd would want to sell him to us, their closest PL rivals. Malcolm’s stats are impressive, but we have recently signed two complete lemons from France in N’Jie, and N’Koudou and the jury is still out on Moura, so let’s be careful.

    • Yep fair point frank dore. N’Kou was touted as the next big thing in France when we signed him. Lucas was a proven player and he has struggled.

I personally think we have signed enough wingers with potential from France. We should move on from this now.

  • N’Koudou was just a punt at £10m. Not sure we’d have got him so cheap if he was ever touted as the next big thing. He wasn’t even a guaranteed starter at Marseille. Malcom looks the business and is Bordeauxs star player. He’ll cost a lot more than £10m. I preferred him over Moura personally, whos end product has always been an issue, especially with the advantage of playing for the best team in the French league by a mile.. But since we now have Moura, not sure why we’re still being linked with Malcolm. Lazy journalism.

    • N’Kou had a very good rep before we signed him. Represented the French national team from the under 17’s all the way up the the under 21’s. You say he wasn’t a regular but he played in 41 games the season before we signed him.

  • Guyver – he’s left footed so could easily end up on the left wing. Impressive stats – would be a quality signing even if did cost around £40-44m. I wanted us to sign him but I guess with Eriksen, Moura and Lamela we are more than covered. We need a LWF to fight it out with Son, I guess there’s why were being linked with Grealish. Not inspiring but then again could be the next Alli. Sessegnon was the other I wanted but with Fulham being promoted – that’s almost certainly out the window – there is definitely the next Alli. Bale would be a final marquee signing and he’s home-grown which is an added bonus. Put him on the same deal as HK10 and bring him home – hopefully would be enough to snare him.
