Tottenham Hotspur look like they are going to have to fight it out with Atletico de Madrid this summer for the signature of Giovani Lo Celso.

According to Estadio Deportivo (via AS), the Argentine maestro is thought to be high on the wishlist of Diego Simeone and are thought to have already made a significant offer for the player over three weeks ago.

Although there is no sign that Real Betis are prepared to accept it, the fact that Daniel Levy has continued his strong negotiation tactics could come to cost us in the race for his signature.

ABC Sevilla have claimed we have only offered Real Betis €40million (£35.7m) but, unsurprisingly, that was flat out refused.

In fact, they go on to state: “And the proposal of the English club has been considered totally insufficient by Betis”. Looks like Daniel Levy has some way to go before Mauricio Pochettino gets his compatriot teaming up for him.

As we have mentioned on numerous occasions, we feel Lo Celso would be an excellent addition for us as he could provide us with what we need in the middle of the park moving forward. The South American was hugely influential for the La Liga outfit last season and showed he has the quality to pull the strings and get things going.

The 23-year-old managed to net 16 goals and contribute a further six assists in his 46 matches across all competitions last season (Transfermarkt); figures that we could make do with moving forward.

We have had to heavily rely on Christian Eriksen to come up with all the magic, but there are times when he is completely frozen out of the game which leaves us lacking the imagination and creativity to overcome our opponents at times, whilst his versatility and defensive abilities mean he can play in a deeper role and fill the void that Mousa Dembele left.

Although Levy’s doing the right thing and trying to get the best price for him, with a club like Atletico in the mix for Lo Celso as well, we could end up missing out on him altogether.

  • I am glad that u at least acknowledge that he is doing the right thing. So many fans would live us to turn into man United and throw money around on any player that is linked to the team. We have gotten where we are by making smart transfers and not paying exorbitant transfer fees. I do think we need to start loosing our stance a bit to take the next step but u still have to negotiate not just pay the top price for a player. Give the man time he understands that to keep poch he need reinforcements. They will come weather its lo celso or someone else

    • I can agree with you partly, but are we going to run the risk again of losing out on an obvious world class player ? Look what happened to Willian !! Chelsea snipe in at last minute and got the player and Spurs end up with egg on there face. I feel if the player has scored 16 goals and plenty of assists , we should jump at the chance before we are left again with egg on our faces again.COYS
