With the reports over the weekend seeming to suggest that we’d put in an offer that had actually gazumped Arsenal’s agreed bid with St Etienne for the highly rated 18-year-old, it was always known that any deal for him would see him return to the Ligue 1 club for game time to increase his development further.

It seems our offer was purely upfront as a payment and Arsenal have now been forced into agreeing the same deal, and for many fans, if we get the player great as he’s a talent. If we don’t get him, we’ve forced Arsenal into splashing a big portion of their budget for a player they won’t see until next year.
