Levy masterstroke: Spurs need to sign “scary” £18 million-rated ace – Opinion

|

According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham have ‘expressed an interest‘ in £18 million-valued attacker Allan Saint-Maximin – but does that mean chairman Daniel Levy should pull off a masterstroke and sign the Frenchman who is in demand?

Saint-Maximin, who signed for Newcastle United last summer from Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice in a £16.5m deal, has been a revelation since moving to the Premier League – terrorising defenders with his flair and bursts of pace in the final third.

Should Spurs sign Allan Saint-Maximin?

Yes, get it done

No, don't need more wingers

Still only 23-years-old, his sky high potential dwarfs the potential meagre figure for his signature by comparison, especially considering his accolades since arriving in England.

Described as ‘scary‘ by Magpies boss Steve Bruce, the Newcastle manager knew he would ‘excite people‘ upon arrival – with pundit Graeme Souness also lauding the ‘top, top player‘ who can only ‘get better‘ due to his young age and the performances he has already showcased.

According to WhoScored, when compared to Spurs’ current crop of attackers, Saint-Maximin’s completed dribbles really highlight the notion he could be worth every penny.

Indeed, the winger averages an impressive 4.6 successful take-ons per 90, more than double Spurs star Son Heung-min in the English top flight.

Even though we currently have an abundance of wingers at our disposal, Erik Lamela, Son, Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura to name a few, a coup for Saint-Maximin could arguably be one of Levy’s greatest attacking additions given his noteworthy potential.

The only drawback, as per the Athletic, is financing – but while Saint-Maximin could be a gamble on that front, the evidence shows he may well be worth the punt ahead of Spurs’ hunt for a trophy next season during Jose Mourinho’s first full campaign in charge.

Spurs fans need to get over themselves, writing silly articles like this where you think you can waltz in an sign anyone you want. And as for signing him for 18million, get real. He will cost you at least 60 million, which you guys don’t have.
