“Left Desperately Disappointed” – Pundit Changes His Tune On Spurs Man

|

At the time of writing, Tottenham Hotspur are yet to kick off the opening Champions League clash of the year against Olympiakos, but given the performance and the talking points that came from Spurs’ last Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, I still think Garth Crooks’ Team of the Week selection will be of interest to those fans who maybe didn’t catch it.

With a more vintage showing from manager Mauricio Pochettino’s boys as we put Palace to the sword in the opening 45 minutes with a Son Heung-Min brace, and own goal and an effort from Erik Lamela, Spurs naturally had two players feature in his line up for the BBC.

The two players in question were often forgotten about this season, it seems, Serge Aurier, and naturally, Sonny given his goal contribution on the day.

Focusing on his comments about Aurier as he returned to the team for the first time this season after clearly wanting a summer’s departure, former player Crooks had been won over.

“Every time I have seen Aurier play for Tottenham I have been left desperately disappointed and quite often angry. Disappointed because of his lack of performance and angry because of his inability to respect the depth of quality in the Premier League. This is not France where there are only a couple of decent teams in the league but the toughest and most demanding league in the world. Against Crystal Palace, the former Paris St-Germain defender woke up to that fact and finally played like it. And about time.”

Aurier, as we know, had one of his best performances for us on the day and even contributed an assist to the win, and we all hope it’s a corner turned for the 26-year-old.

He was left behind for last night’s disappointing 2-2, and some will no doubt be having flashbacks to last year, but when it comes to Aurier, we’ll have to see what side Poch picks next.
