Leeds 3-1 Spurs: Pathetic performance piles on more misery for fans

|

The race for the top four looks all but over now after Leeds battered Spurs all over the pitch during this lunchtime’s kick-off, winning 3-1 to pile more misery on the fans who have endured a dreadful season not just in terms of football, but also because how boring and unadventurous the team have become.

After Leicester lost yesterday and given theirs and Chelsea’s run-ins being quite difficult on paper, if Spurs won all their remaining games, Champions League could still have been possible, particularly after last-weeks impressive performance against Sheffield United.

But, despite some fans believing the Spurs ‘of old’ to be back, we reverted back to our usual ways this season within 13 minutes after Sergio Reguilon’s calamitous own-goal bound touch was saved fantastically by Hugo Lloris, only for Stuart Dallas to smack in on the rebound.

However, Spurs did respond well and it took just 12 minutes before the equaliser was scored by Heung-min Son after an exquisite through-ball from Dele Alli which evaded a number of defenders giving the Korean forward to tuck the ball beyond Illan Meslier.

Just minutes later, Harry Kane then had the ball in the back of the next after chipping Meslier as he found himself through on goal thanks to another brilliant pass from Alli – but the linesman had his flag up and VAR confirmed the offside, despite how acute the distance was which was almost invisible to the naked eye even with the 3D lines drawn.

Patrick Bamford then put Leeds back in front right before half-time, as Ezgjan Alioski got to they by-line after another dreadful mistake from Eric Dier, and his cross was inch perfect for the unmarked Bamford as even after the Spurs defender’s error, he still did not clock the run of the Leeds striker who tapped in past Lloris.

Spurs’ best chance to equalise came from a free-kick which Kane struck against the crossbar, but as the visitors pressed more and more, the defence began to become more exposed, which allowed Raphinha to get in behind down the right-hand side and square to an unmarked Rodrigo who made sure of the victory for Leeds, and sentence Spurs to another defeat.
