Late Spurs Goal Isn’t Enough For A Point Against Liverpool

|

With the September international break now in the rearview mirror, it was time for real football to return on Saturday as Tottenham Hotspur hosted Liverpool at Wembley.

Following on from the Watford disappointment ahead of the break, although we had far more of the ball than the visitors managed, we just didn’t do a lot with it again. Liverpool dominated where it mattered and had far greater chances across the 90 minutes than we could manage and in some ways Erik Lamela’s stoppage-time strike probably makes the game look closer than it was.

Goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino in each half were enough to secure all three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side with the game finishing at 2-1, but we could’ve nicked a point at the end as Son Heung-min had a late penalty shout rejected when he was taken down by Sadio Mane in the box but it wasn’t to be.

Onto Inter Milan in the Champions League group stages now as we look for better but the main concern was the side looked lethargic again.
