Just Wondering About Spurs

|

When thinking about improving our squad, many wonder if a prospective player could get into the (very few) teams above us. Or even if some of our own players could get into those teams. Nobody ever wonders out loud if our players are too good for the 80+ clubs below us. Which they probably are.

I wonder if the 80+ teams below us think the same way. Every club in the four divisions (remember that) wants to be Pool or City. Does Stevenage wonder if their players would fit in at Anfield, or if the player they are chasing could play for Pool. Of course not. We all have hopes and dreams, but they must have an element of realism attached to them. Everything to do with football is relative. Every club is different depending on the many variables that form the base of each club.

We are not Stevenage, struggling at the bottom of Division four (there it is again). We are Tottenham, competing at the top end of the toughest league on the planet. We are not Pool or City with an obscene amount of money to spend on eleven players kicking a piece of leather around while the millions of poor around the world starve. Personally I would not want to be like that. It seems to have gone way too far, it’s almost immoral. Gradually Football has ceased being ‘the peoples game’ and has become a game for the elite, rich, and powerful. But, nevertheless, we continue to do the best we can within the capacity of our resources …. and we remain in the mix.

We have a world class striker …. but that’s not enough! We want two, just in case one gets injured, or tired. Does any sane person think this is viable or even realistic? Is another Kane really going to sit on the bench and watch the game instead of playing in it. And if he is willing to do that …. what does it say about his commitment and integrity. So, to develop a younger player to, hopefully, ease into the team for years to come seems to make sense. Or, to bring in a less skilful player who, hopefully, can do a job, also makes sense. Hope is a big word when it’s connected to the world of football.

As HT said earlier (article comments here), we have bought back-ups for Kane more than once, without great success. At the time it may have looked like a good move …. but supporters live more in hindsight than in real-time. And hindsight brings a different perspective. It lets us be critical in both a good way or a bad way depending on how it turns out. It gives any argument a very unfair advantage.

As far as THFC is concerned, we don’t look too bad. We’ve been around for a while and we’ll be around for a while longer. We’ve had good times and we’ve had bad times. That will continue, too. It is what it is.

Roll on next season.

King and Wilson are easy to confuse with each other, ND…

    Both play for Bournemouth
    Both are black.
    Both are strikers.
    Both are 1.8 m tall
    Both are 28 years old.
And both have very average goal scoring records… Yes, I googled them, Oh Danny Boy!

So, I propose we buy them both. One as cover for Kane and one to cover for the over one, when the other one goes missing!

Get Hoj the Bodge in… Stick the quite tall Foyth at RB… Loan out all the players we bought last year to Fulham, Leeds or Millwall. Buy any player that jod can name… Give Jose a pay rise and… we should be good to go….

    You heard first here, folks!

    THEN:

Finish 5th in the EPL. Win the Carabao cup. Watch Guns n Roses play live at the new stadium and… I’ll be over the moon… Over the rainbow… Overwhelmed……… Over and out.

My ITK name shall now be known as; Where Cockerels Dare to Do…

    Peace!

Morning HT, very good post there, humerous, cheered me up.

I am looking forward to next season, not interested in the nay sayer/doom merchants, we will be there somewhere about’s.

Now if the Guns n Roses concert is rescheduled then I am even more excited, I shall be there as old as I am lol!, great memories of seeing them twice in the 90’s.

So for me next season/year looks exciting, mind some will say I am easily pleased lol! COYS

    HT
    Good call.
I don’t really follow Bournemouth hence the confusion, I knew it was a striker from “the Cherries”
I even thought in an earlier post Ake played for Brighton (lol).
Gr8 post made me laugh. Would love to see GNR tho….

  • TQ2Spurs says:

EJ…..I doubt Wilson is on anywhere near £100k at Bournemouth, or any other member of their squad, their income surely couldn’t support wages of that magnitude.

  • El Jefe says:

Hi TQ – didn’t research it at first so have just checked and he’s only on £60K apparently – must have got him confused with Zaha for some reason – I stand corrected LOL!

Definitely worth a punt for around £20m or so and on similar wages, maybe even a small increase to sweeten the deal fully! Only concern then being previous injuries – but a full proper medical should test those out and he’s played a lot of games in the last 2-3 years so that’s already helpful proof that he should be OK!

Also his record in the Prem of 44 goals in 126 games is pretty decent, 1 goal in less than 3 games average – very decent indeed! Also playing for us and with better quality players especially attackers you would hope to maintain at a very minimum that standard but really actually improve on that ratio overall!

It seems that some Spurs signings deteriorate rapidly when playing for the club. Sessegnon, Jack Clarke ( yet to be seen anywhere), N’Dombele, Lo Celso, Fernandes, Aurier, Foyth and Sanchez, even Sissoko. Dele,(big step up) Son and Toby have managed to maintain their quality although Dele has definitely lost his spark. If all the above players managed to settle in quickly and produce decent form, we could have a reasonable squad. As it is their value has dropped owing to weak or non appearances. We still have a mountain to climb to compete with the top 4 or 5 clubs.

  • PompeyYid says:

Ww, honestly do not think we have a mountain to climb, yes we will not win the league, only a dream at the mo but who knows, but 4th or 5th for me will happen, and a cup win, I can feel it in my bones/blood, so my opinion for you is “humble pie and the proverbial egg” lol! but yes it could be the other way round as in it will be me! to add I really do not care if that happens because so many different unexpected things can happen in a season going for or against us. Cheers mate keep safe as everyone else.

Cheers PY. Always good to share ideas. Having been a Spurs supporter for 65 years, one is bound to see things differently. Early on I used to watch Blanchflower, White, Mackay, Jones, and later on the magnificent Jimmy Greaves. It is hard to appreciate our current squad with a few exceptions. However, although supporting Spurs can be painful, we all live in expectation that something greater is just around the corner. Maybe a sudden top signing to enlighten our team. Or even a youngster from the academy that appears out of the blue. Living in hope that soon we will challenge the big boys like we did recently. I’m not so bothered about silverware. I just want to be excited and entertained by class players who go all out to thrash the opposition. Come back Gareth Bale for a start.

  • PompeyYid says:

Your quite welcome Ww, been a fan/supporter the same amount of years as yourself, and yes have seen the greats you mentioned and my most fave Jimmy, mind Dave M comes a close 2nd, us oldies were treated so well to what we watched, oh those were the days haha.

The problem to day, other than football changing it is too massively over paid and money buys success not down to earth great coaches, as we live in a me me me world with instant success am afraid at the mo Spurs have been left behind somewhat, not Stadium or Training facilities, still have to be paid for, but must stress not completely, we are still there about’s and the out look on the horizon is looking brighter slowly but surely, well that’s my opinion anyway.

I have my Hard Hat on because am going to get some stick here lol! Doncha just luv being a Spurs fan. COYS
