Journalist reveals Spurs boost as Lilywhites chase €85m stalwart likened to Nesta – Report

|

Speaking exclusively in a Sky Sports transfer Q&A, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims Tottenham may have received a potential boost in their pursuit of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly – with the Italian stating that there is a ‘good feeling‘ between the player’s representatives and our chairman Daniel Levy.

Koulibaly, who has started 14 league games for the Serie A side this campaign, has been linked to various suitors over the last month – with a recent report from La Repubblica claiming that both Manchester clubs as well as Paris-Saint Germain are considering a swoop for the 28-year-old.

Now, as revealed by Di Marzio, Spurs may well join the pack in an effort to capture the stalwart who is currently valued at around €85 million (£74.2 million).

Should Spurs chase a £74 million Koulibaly deal?

Get it done

No, way too expensive

The Sky Sports Italia reporter didn’t stop there, going on to state that Spurs may have an advantage in the race for Koulibaly given the positive relationship between his agents and chairman Levy – all the while current club Napoli seemingly prepare for life without the Senegalese international.

Last summer, the Italian club signed two defenders in an apparent effort to sure up their back line in the event Koulibaly opts for a move away – possibly explaining why he has only started just over a dozen league matches this season.

In that time, out of Spurs players who have started more than 10 Premier League games, only defender Serge Aurier has managed to average more tackles domestically than Koulibaly according to WhoScored – potentially outlining what he could bring to the table under Jose Mourinho.

Whether or not we do opt to sign the sought-after stalwart, who has been likened to Alessandro Nesta in the past, remains to be seen – but there is little arguing he would be a good addition judging by his pedigree.
