Journalist Claims Spurs Have Agreed Cash + Swap Deal With Club, Reportedly Worth £50m

|

With Toby Alderweireld speculation continuing given the Tottenham Hotspur defender is into his final 12 months and with it well known that kicking in the 12 month option opened up a time limited £25million release fee, the latest twist to the stories is supposed interest from Serie A side Roma.

“I Can’t See Him Taking A Step Backwards” – Former Spurs Player Dismisses Recent Defender Speculation

With plenty of mixed thoughts given the reports that suggest Roma are looking to talk us down from the release fee with claims that Alderweireld’s representatives have already agreed personal terms, most fans would agree that Roma would be a step backwards for him given the type of move we all expected he would be likely to make – if he did leave White Hart Lane.

With some speculation linking us with a potential interest in Roma’s Nicola Zaniola, the expected reports suggesting a potential cash/swap deal have now surfaced and it seems to stem from a claim by Italian reporter Aldredo Pedulla, who is apparently claiming that the 20-year-old has himself agreed to a deal with Spurs.

In short, given the supposed meeting between Daniel Levy and Franco Baldini, we have flatly refused to budge on the release fee, and have instead offered to pay £27million for Zaniola, with Toby’s release fee being the makeweight given he’s spoken about as a £50million player.

The confusion here is mainly the meeting between the two as per the various reports the meeting has either already taken place, is set to take place and even took place on Monday and depending on when said meeting happened, it throws into doubt the credibility of the claims being made when they suggest ‘this is what has been agreed’ when we can’t even get agreement on whether the meeting has happened.

Further reports from Corriere dello Sport claim that we will offer Zaniola a six year contract, but again in their reporting, the meeting between Levy and Baldini is presumably set for later in the week as he hasn’t even flown to England yet.

Official announcements are all we can believe at this time of year, everything else is nonsense.
