Martin Jol has denied that he is under pressure and says in The Sun that the Spurs fans love him too much to allow him to leave White Hart Lane.

BMJ said, when asked if he has listened to the disgruntled fans comments: ‘I haven’t listened to any phone-ins recently. Ninety per cent of fans won’t slag me off because they love me too much – and that is a burden. I have to do well.’

And on his future he added, ‘I would love to be here in a couple of years’ time and do a Ferguson or a Wenger because I feel we are capable of that. I feel that we are closer than ever. It is just a few little pieces but you need your best players available. I have no fear, no fear of anything.’

With our slide in form he says Jol ‘The thing I hate is when the fans are unhappy with us, that is the only pressure I’ve got. I hate to not fulfil their hopes and expectations. I’m not satisfied. I don’t want sad supporters, I want happy people around me. I want compliments because that is what I am used to. It is an addiction. I am a football man. When I was nine years old I scored 13 goals in a match and everybody was giving me compliments. That is an addiction, you want to do well in your profession. That is what I want to do.’

Although he insists he is under pressure, the last win in the league was 2-1 at White Hart Lane against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

Jol added in The Sun: “The lack of clean sheets is a big concern. But they are not the only thing. Last year we had 10 players who scored away from home, the highest in the whole league. The statistics suggest that if Ledley is playing we win and if he is not we have got a bigger problem. But that is for us to sort out. Last year he was injured for the last nine games so we can’t look for that as an excuse.”
