Big Martin Jol was glad to progress to the fourth round of the Carling Cup after avoiding a potential upset at the hands of League Two side MK Dons.

Last season Spurs were knocked out of the competition by Grimsby Town but put in what Jol described as a ‘professional job’ in Tottenham’s 5-0 win on Wednesday night.

‘Everyone expects you to win but it can be difficult and we still had what happened against Grimsby at the back of our minds,’ Jol told the official Spurs site.

‘Milton Keynes put a lot of diagonal balls into the box and that is how they try to score goals but we defended well and took our chances. Mido was excellent for the first goal, the second goal from Jermain was good and that made the second half easier for us and we scored two more.

‘It was a professional job because you never know against lower league clubs. We had to rest a few players and this team hadn’t played together but after the first goal we did well in midfield, Tom Huddlestone was pulling the strings again and the second half was comfortable. In the end, 5-0 has to be a good result.’
