One is currently banging them in for both Spurs and England bagging an International brace and a Premiership hat-trick in his last outings, while the other is looking a somewhat forlorn figure lacking confidence and sharpness, and looking on the periphory of any attacking threat United may have posed against Burnley.

Sir Alex Ferguson may have got Michael Owen on a free while Spurs paid quite a few million for Defoe’s return from Pompey, but who is honestly looking the better buy now?

Owen is older, has lost that yard of pace, is plagued by injury worries(normally hamstrings), and is at present an outsider on the international scene.Jermain by contrast is a player brimming with confidence who has improved his all round game, and his strength and fitness with a now more mature head sitting on his diminutive shoulders.

With Ronaldo and Tevez having departed at United Sir Alex is banking on Owen to greatly compensate for the goals they provided.I bet he wishes he had gone for Defoe before Harry did in the sure knowledge that Ronaldo was a certainty to be leaving Old Trafford.

Shame is it will cost you a lot of wonga now Sir Alex.£20-25 million at a conservative estimate. That is if Harry can be persuaded to part with a player who is vital to his plans to take Tottenham to new heights.

What do you think the odds on that are?

Absolutely zero I would guess.
