“I’ve Made It Clear” – Key Spurs Star Reiterates Aim As Mourinho Picks Up First Win

|

After a somewhat disruptive week at Tottenham Hotspur with the departure of Mauricio Pochettino and the somewhat unexpected arrival of Jose Mourinho, the unlikeable serial winner picked up his first win at the club in the London clash with West Ham United on Saturday.

It was a much needed three points, and only our fourth of the campaign, and the performance gave rise to plenty of cheer (if we ignore the final 20 minutes) and we now turn our attentions to Tuesday evening’s Champions League clash with Olympiakos where Mourinho will be looking to pick up his first home win.

With plenty of interviews following after the weekend’s action, and some further fallout from the managerial change, striker Harry Kane featured quite prominently and as he spoke to the BBC to reflect further on Poch’s departure – admitting he was one of the players who has visited him since to say a proper goodbye and reflect on happier times – he had the right amount of praise for our new man, and for those worrying he’ll now be off himself, it doesn’t quite sound like it to me.

“The gaffer’s won at every club he’s gone to – there’s no hiding away from that. I’ve made it clear that I’m at the stage of my career where I want to win trophies. I’ve made it clear I want to win them here and it’s a big year for us. Realistically we look at the Champions League and the FA Cup this season to try to do that, so we’ll see how that goes and then from my point of view I’ll keep doing what I’m doing, keep fighting for this club on the pitch. We all want to win. We wanted to win when Mauricio was here; we want to win the same now the gaffer’s here. But of course when someone’s got a reputation like he has, it gives you confidence, it gives you that belief in the team. It’s almost a fresh slate for everyone now to show the manager what they can do and hopefully the players can thrive on that.”

Turning this season around is his first battle, but we shouldn’t get too carried away just yet.
