It’s “Imperative” – Pochettino Doubles Down On Ambition For Spurs

|

After two transfer windows without a single signing, many Tottenham Hotspur fans are hoping that we’ll make up for lost time this summer and splash some cash.

With us securing our top four spot and making our first Champions League Final in the campaign of 2018/19, manager Mauricio Pochettino has made it abundantly clear that he wants the ambitions at the club to change and that he wants us to stop punching above our weight and overachieving and with transfer speculation coming thick and fast, he has doubled down on his earlier words this week.

Pochettino was speaking to Catalunya Radio (via Sport Witness) recently and he restated that strengthening the group this year was ‘imperative’ to our future.

“It is imperative that this year we strengthen the team. We saved a lot of money in almost two years without signing, and that should allow us to strengthen ourselves well.”

Pochettino did again clarify his role in securing deals and many fans will believe this was another attempt to keep the pressure on Daniel Levy to get him his top targets before next season begins.

“At Manchester City and Liverpool, Pep Guardiola and Jürgen Klopp are free to decide which players they want and which ones they do not. However, in other teams such as Tottenham, Chelsea or Arsenal the make up of the squad isn’t in the hands of the coaches. Who decides, in our case, is the president.”

With some sides having already returned to pre-season training now, the market will definitely hot up in the next fortnight and we just have to hope we get the players in that Poch wants and then we’ll see how far we can kick on.
