“It’s bitter” – Tottenham star given sympathy from world-class international

|

Tottenham experienced a very difficult evening on Tuesday night as Bayern Munich smashed seven goals past them in the Champions League to leave Spurs in a world of trouble.

It was a particularly bad evening for Hugo Lloris picking the ball out of the net on seven occasions.

The Tottenham keeper only faced ten shots on target, but Bayern’s finishing was utterly clinical – as you would expect from a German side.

After the game, Manuel Neuer explained that he felt sorry for his counterpart Lloris and even though he was delighted with the win he had sympathy for his opposite number.

The German international claimed that Lloris could do nothing about the goals he conceded and that it was a bitter feeling.

Neuer faced eight shots on target and made two excellent saves to deny Christian Eriksen and Heung-min Son.

Lloris in the opposite goal meanwhile looked bewildered as Tottenham were continually torn apart by a ruthless Bayern side.

Serge Gnabry, the ex-Arsenal winger, scored four goals in the second half and Tottenham collapsed in humiliating fashion.

Lloris, the Spurs captain, looked lost in the second half.

After the match, he apologised to the fans, but words mean nothing.

Tottenham will have to respond on Saturday with a win over Brighton & Hove Albion – that is the only way they can apologise to their loyal fans.
